Community Traffic Safety Teams (CTSTs) are locally based, data- driven groups of highway safety advocates that are committed to a common goal of improving traffic safety in their communities. CTSTs are multi-jurisdictional, with members from city, county, state, and occasionally federal agencies, as well as private industry representatives and local citizens. CTST boundaries are determined by the organizations comprising the team and can be a city, a portion of a county, an entire county, multiple counties, or any other logical arrangement.
The MPO is the designated official planning agency to receive the Transportation Disadvantaged (TD) trust funds for TD planning in the urbanized area. Each county in the state has a TD program to provide transportation to people who, because of physical or mental disability, income status, or age, are unable to transport themselves or purchase transportation and are, therefore, dependent upon others to obtain access to health care, employment, education, shopping, social activities, or other life-sustaining activities, or children who are handicapped or high-risk. The Sarasota/Manatee area provides paratransit services through both Manatee County Area Transit and Sarasota County Area Transit.
