Transportation Disadvantaged

The MPO is the designated official planning agency to receive the Transportation Disadvantaged (TD) trust funds for TD planning in the urbanized area. Each county in the state has a TD program to provide transportation to people who, because of physical or mental disability, income status, or age, are unable to transport themselves or purchase transportation and are, therefore, dependent upon others to obtain access to health care, employment, education, shopping, social activities, or other life-sustaining activities, or children who are handicapped or high-risk. The Sarasota/Manatee area provides paratransit services through both Manatee County Area Transit and Sarasota County Area Transit. For more information regarding the Florida Commission for Transportation Disadvantaged (CTD), visit www.fdot.gov/ctd
