The 2045 Long Range Transportation Plan identified three baseball stadium access studies to evaluate multimodal connectivity, assess transportation conditions, and develop solutions that enhance access and interaction with the surrounding land uses near the region's spring training facilities. In 2024, the MPO completed the first study focused on LECOM Park. 

The Ed Smith Stadium Planning Study focuses on the area just east of downtown Sarasota. The study aims to improve walking and biking options, transit access, and safety, while also reducing recurring game-day and event-related congestion. The goal is to create a more inclusive, efficient transportation network that meets the needs of all roadway users - motorized and nonmotorized alike. This study was completed in January 2026.
