Motorists are reminded to wear safety belts and drive with caution, courtesy, common sense, and patience as they travel through work zones. Remember, speeding fines are doubled in work zones.

MANATEE COUNTY

I-75 at SR 70 Interchange (Exit 217): Construction project: This week, crews will work on widening I-75, the ramps, and SR 70. Crews are also working on excavating interchange and SR 70 stormwater ponds and drainage and working on the bridges over SR 70 and the Braden River.

  • Motorists should expect lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8:45 p.m. to 6 a.m. (northbound) or 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (southbound) through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 70 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 70 through the duration of the construction.
  • Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is mid-2021. The contractor is Sacyr Construction USA, LLC.

I-75 over the Manatee River Bridge: Bridge maintenance: Crews will be working overnight Sunday, January 17, 2021, through Thursday, January 21, 2021, from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. with intermittent left and right lane closures. Please use caution in the area.

I-275 and SR 93 southbound rest area off-ramp:  Maintenance:  Crews will be repairing a light pole on the right shoulder of I-275 on the south rest area overpass.  There will be overnight right lane closures through Sunday, January 17, 2021, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Please use caution in the area.

US 301 from 60th Avenue east up to US 301 (Old Tampa Road): Construction maintenance: Crews will be repaving sections of the roadway overnight from Sunday, January 17th, through Thursday, January 21, 2021, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists can expect intermittent lane closures both north and southbound. Contractor is Midwestern Construction.

US 19 from US 41 to Terra Ceia Road: Construction project: work includes resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage and constructing a sidewalk. Work is in the final stages of completion. Daytime single-lane closures between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and overnight lane closures between 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. are allowed throughout construction. AJAX Paving Industries of Florida is the contractor. Expected completion is early 2021.

SR 684 / Cortez Road from 123rd Street W to 119th Street W and from 123rd Street W to 86th Street W: Construction project: work includes realigning the intersection of SR 684/Cortez Road and 119th Street west, while also resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, constructing a sidewalk and installing new highway lighting.  The project is in the final stages of completion with only intermittent lane closures. AJAX Paving Industries is the contractor. Expected completion is first quarter 2021.

SR 64 at Uihlein Road: Construction permit project: There will be intermittent lane closures on both eastbound and westbound lanes through February 7, 2021, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the construction of a left turn lane, right turn lane, and driveway connection. 

SR 64 at Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road: Construction project: Construction of  a roundabout at SR 64 and Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road includes installing pedestrian activated crossings on all legs of the roundabout, adding lighting and landscaping, and installing a new traffic signal and crosswalks at SR 64 and 117th Street east.  The contractor is Watson Civil Construction, Inc. Expected completion is summer 2021, weather permitting.

  • Pope Road is closed to thru traffic, utilize the roundabout at SR 64 and White Eagle Boulevard/Rye Road.
  • The Eastbound travel lanes have been reduced to one lane and shifted to the north side of the median through the project.
  • Travel for both westbound and eastbound traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the project limits at the Greyhawk and Pope Road intersection.
  • Signal, lighting and sidewalk work will be taking place at 117th Street east. 
  • All scheduled work will take place during daytime hours.
  • Tentative lane closures of the outside, right lane to accommodate sidewalk reconstruction at the intersection of SR 64 and 117th Street east.  

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

I-75 at Sumter Boulevard: Landscape installation: Crews will be installing landscaping and no lane closures will be required. Contractor is Frankie Valdez Company.

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota:  Construction project:

  • Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.
  • Curb, sidewalk and brick paver installation throughout the project limits.
  • Minor asphalt surface work on US 41 between 12th Street and 14th Lane closures will be required for this operation.
  • Landscaping and irrigation installation in the median area and on the west side of US 41 between 10th Street and 14th Use caution as semi-trucks unload material within the work zone.
  • Final signage installation throughout the project limits.

Motorists are urged to use caution and watch for workers, construction vehicles, pickup trucks and other construction equipment within the work zone and entering or exiting the travel lanes.

Traffic signals on US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street have been removed, and motorists shall follow roundabout signage and driving conditions. Motorist entering the roundabout regardless of direction of travel, are advised to YEILD to traffic already within the roundabout.

No left turns permitted within the project limits, except at the boat ramp, which has an exclusive left turn lane for north bound traffic.

Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

Expect noise from excavators, vibration from rollers, back up alarms, trucks, and construction vehicles throughout the project corridor.

Work is expected during daytime hours, but some activities will require weekend and nighttime work.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a six-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED streetlights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is early winter 2021. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.

US 41 from Gulf Gate Drive to McIntosh Road: Construction maintenance: crews will be reshaping and reworking ditches from Monday, January 18th, through Friday, January 22, 2021, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The contractor will utilize a shoulder closure; however, in some areas with limited shoulder, outside lane closures may be required.  Contractor is Midwestern Construction. 

US 41 from Blackburn Point Road to Preymore Street: Construction project: Work includes resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, constructing sidewalks, replacing the US 41 northbound bridge over North Creek, and installing new highway lighting along the three-mile work.  For a less than one mile stretch by North Creek Bridge, traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction. Once the bridge is complete, a traffic shift is expected in mid to late January. Bergeron Land Development, Inc. is the contractor. Expected overall project completion is spring 2021.

US 41 (Venice Bypass) from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard to a six-lane highway; replacing traffic signals, installing new pavement markings and signage; installing concrete curb and sidewalks; improving new drainage, and installing new highway lighting. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. The contractor is Bergeron Land Development, Inc. Expected completion is spring 2021. 

  • A new traffic pattern is in effect on northbound US 41. Advanced warning signs will be in place to alert drivers to the shift in traffic. Both northbound travel lanes will remain open. Please use caution when traveling the project corridor.
  • Intermittent daytime lane closures will be in effect on northbound US 41 Bypass from Center Roadto Venice Avenue from 8m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please watch for crews in the roadway.
  • Pedestrian traffic has been shifted to the newly constructed sidewalk on the west side of the roadway and a temporary pedestrian access pathway has been established on the east side.
  • Crews are working within the driveways and the right-of-way along the northbound and southbound lanes of US 41. Please use caution when turning into businesses and shopping plazas. 

US 41 from Panama Drive to 15th Street: Construction permit project: There will be intermittent, alternating northbound and southbound lane closures thru February 29, 2021, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Project includes median utility work and the construction of a left turn lane and several driveway connections along US 41.  Please use caution and expect possible delays.

US 41 from Shamrock Boulevard to Sunset Beach Drive: Construction permit project: There will be intermittent right lane closures on both the north and southbound lanes starting through January 29, 2021, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Crews will be constructing a driveway and completing utility work. Please use caution.

SR 758 (Higel/ Shell Avenue) from Little Pond Lane to Somerset Drive on Siesta Key: Construction project: This project will improve drainage, resurface the roadway, and improve the sidewalk and shoulder on Higel Avenue from Little Pond Lane to Somerset.  Crews are in the final stages of completion. Motorists should expect only intermittent lane closures. The contractor is Heavy Civil, Inc. Completion is expected January 2021.

SR 789 John Ringling Parkway from Bird Key Drive to Washington Drive North: Construction permit project: The City of Sarasota contractors will be installing landscaping Tuesday, January 19th, to January 29, 2021, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be intermittent lane closures on the westbound right lane. Use caution in the area.

  • Intermittent daytime lane closures will be in effect on northbound US 41 Bypass from Center Road to Venice Avenue from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays from Monday, January 11, to Friday, January 22, and a nighttime lane closure will be in effect on Wednesday, January 13, 2020. Please watch for crews in the roadway.
  • Pedestrian traffic has been shifted to the newly constructed sidewalk on the west side of the roadway and a temporary pedestrian access pathway has been established on the east side.

  • Curb and sidewalk installation and finalizing throughout the project limits.
  • Grading and irrigation installation in the median area and on the west side of US 41 between 10th Street and 14th Please be cautious of construction vehicles, pickup trucks, and crews working close to travel lanes and entering and leaving the travel lanes.
  • Landscaping installation in the median areas. Use caution as semi-trucks unload material within the work zone.
  • Signal and installation and fiber optic cable installation throughout the project limits.

Traffic signals on US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street have been removed, and motorists will follow roundabout signage and driving conditions. Motorists entering the roundabout, regardless of direction of travel, are advised to YEILD to traffic already within the roundabout.

No left turns permitted within the project limits, except at the boat ramp, which has an exclusive left turn lane for north bound traffic.

The speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

Motorists are urged to use caution and watch for trucks and other construction equipment within the work zone.

Expect noise from excavators, vibration from rollers, back up alarms, trucks, and construction vehicles throughout the project corridor.

Work is expected during daytime hours, but some activities will require weekend and nighttime work.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a six-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED streetlights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is early winter 2021. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.

US 41 from Blackburn Point Road to Preymore Street: Construction project: Work includes resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, constructing sidewalks, replacing the US 41 northbound bridge over North Creek, and installing new highway lighting along the three-mile work.  For a less than one mile stretch by North Creek Bridge, traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction. Once the bridge is complete, a traffic shift is expected in mid to late January. Bergeron Land Development, Inc. is the contractor. Expected overall project completion is spring 2021.

US 41 (Venice Bypass) from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard to a six-lane highway;  replacing traffic signals, installing new pavement markings and signage; installing concrete curb and sidewalks; improving drainage; and installing new highway lighting. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. The contractor is Bergeron Land Development, Inc. Expected completion is spring 2021. 

  • A new traffic pattern is now in effect for the southbound and northbound lanes of US 41. Please use caution when traveling the project corridor.
  • Pedestrian traffic has been shifted to the newly constructed sidewalk on the west side of the roadway and a temporary pedestrian access pathway has been established on the east side.
  • Crews are working within the right-of-way along the northbound and southbound lanes of US 41. Please watch for crews and use caution when turning into businesses and shopping plazas.

SR 776 between Stout Street and Stoner Road: Construction permit project: There will be intermittent lane closures on both the eastbound and westbound lanes through January 10, 2021, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the construction of a left turn lane, right turn lane and driveway connection.  Please use caution.

SR 758 (Higel/ Shell Avenue) from Little Pond Lane to Somerset Drive on Siesta Key: Construction project: This project will improve drainage, resurface the roadway, and improve the sidewalk and shoulder on Higel Avenue from Little Pond Lane to Somerset.  Motorists should expect delays due to single lane traffic and flaggers, including evening and overnight work. The contractor is Heavy Civil, Inc.

I-75 at SR 70 Interchange (Exit 217): Construction project: work includes widening I-75, the ramps, and SR 70. Crews are also working on excavating the interchange and SR 70 stormwater ponds and drainage and working on the bridges over SR 70 and the Braden River.

Due to the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, no work will occur from Thursday, December 24 through Sunday, January 3, 2021.  Work will resume on Monday, January 4, 2021.

  • Motorists should expect lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8:45 p.m. to 6 a.m. (northbound) or 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (southbound) through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 70 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 70 through the duration of the construction.
  • Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is mid-2021. The contractor is Sacyr Construction USA, LLC.

US 41 from 17th Street east up to SR 684 (Cortez Road): Construction: crews will be repaving sections of the road overnight from Sunday, December 27, through Wednesday, December 30, 2020, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists can expect intermittent lane closures both north and southbound. Contractor is Midwestern Construction.

US 301 at 121st Avenue: Construction permit project: Crews are constructing a driveway and right turn lane. There will be intermittent lane closures to the outside turn lane on both eastbound and westbound lanes through January 10, 2021.  There will also be intermittent closures to the inside median turn lane on both the eastbound and westbound lanes. Use caution and expect possible delays.

US 19 from US 41 to Terra Ceia Road: Construction project: Work includes resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage and constructing a sidewalk. Expect daytime single-lane closures between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and overnight lane closures between 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. throughout construction. AJAX Paving Industries of Florida is the contractor. Expected completion is early 2021.

SR 684 / Cortez Road from 123rd Street W to 119th Street W and from 123rd Street W to 86th Street W: Construction project: Crews are currently realigning the intersection of SR 684/Cortez Road and 119th Street W, while also resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, constructing a sidewalk and installing new highway lighting.

  • During construction, the two outbound lanes of Harbor Landing Drive will be closed.  Traffic into Harbor Landings is detoured to the west entrance on 127th Street, and the previous Cortez Road entrance lanes will be used as the Harbor Landings exit.

AJAX Paving Industries is the contractor. Expected completion is first quarter 2021.

SR 64 at Uihlein Road: Construction permit project: There will be intermittent lane closures on both eastbound and westbound lanes through January 10, 2021, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the construction of a left turn lane, right turn lane, and driveway connection. 

SR 64 at Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road: Construction project: Construction of a roundabout at SR 64 and Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road includes installing pedestrian activated crossings on all legs of the roundabout, adding lighting and landscaping, and installing a new traffic signal and crosswalks at SR 64 and 117th Street East.  The contractor is Watson Civil Construction, Inc. Expected completion is summer 2021, weather permitting.

In observance of the Christmas and New Year holidays, no work will occur from Thursday, December 24, to Sunday, January 3, 2021.

  • Pope Road is closed to thru traffic, utilize the roundabout at SR 64 and White Eagle Boulevard/Rye Road.
  • The Eastbound travel lanes have been reduced to one lane and shifted to the north side of the median through the project.
  • Travel for both westbound and eastbound traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the project limits at the Greyhawk and Pope Road intersection.
  • Signal and turn lane widening work will be taking place at 117th Street East. 
  • All scheduled work will take place during daytime hours.

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

I-75 and Fruitville Road overpass both north and southbound: Maintenance contract: crews will be repairing a guardrail on the right shoulder of I-75 southbound before the Porter Road overpass.  They will also be repairing a pothole on the northbound side at mile post 39.18.  Work is scheduled overnight from 11 p.m. on Sunday, December 27, 2020, and will be completed by 5 a.m. on December 28, 2020.  Motorists should expect brief lane closures and use caution. Contractor is DBi Services.

I-75 at Sumter Boulevard: Landscape installation: Crews will be installing landscaping and no lane closures will be required. Contractor is Frankie Valdez Company.

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota:  Construction project: After observance of the holidays, construction activities resume normal operations starting Monday, December 28, 2020. Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.

  • Daytime lane closures are expected throughout the project limits.
  • Curb and sidewalk installation and finalizing throughout the project limits

US 301 at 121st Avenue: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing a driveway and right turn lane. There will be intermittent lane closures to the outside turn lane on both eastbound and westbound lanes through December 2020.  There will also be intermittent closures to the inside median turn lane on both the eastbound and westbound lanes. Use caution and expect possible delays.

US 19 from US 41 to Terra Ceia Road: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage and constructing a sidewalk. Expect daytime single lane closures between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and nighttime/overnight lane closures between 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. throughout construction. AJAX Paving Industries of Florida is the contractor. Expected completion is early 2021.

SR 684/Cortez Road from 123rd Street W to 119th Street W and from 123rd Street W to 86th Street W: Construction project: Crews are currently realigning the intersection of SR 684/Cortez Road and 119th Street W, while also resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, constructing a sidewalk and installing new highway lighting.

  • During construction, the two outbound lanes of Harbor Landing Drive will be closed.  Traffic into Harbor Landings is detoured to the west entrance on 127th Street, and the previous Cortez Road entrance lanes will be used as the Harbor Landings exit.

AJAX Paving Industries is the contractor. Expected completion is first quarter 2021.

SR 64 at Uihlein Road: Construction permit project: There will be intermittent lane closures on both eastbound and westbound lanes through December 2020 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the construction of a left turn lane, right turn lane, and driveway connection. 

SR 64 at Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road: Construction project: Construction of  a roundabout at SR 64 and Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road includes installing pedestrian activated crossings on all legs of the roundabout, adding lighting and landscaping, and installing a new traffic signal and crosswalks at SR 64 and 117th Street East.  The contractor is Watson Civil Construction, Inc. Expected completion is summer 2021, weather permitting.

  • Pope Road is closed to thru traffic, utilize the roundabout at SR 64 and White Eagle Boulevard/Rye Road.
  • The Eastbound travel lanes have been reduced to one lane and shifted to the north side of the median through the project.
  • Travel for both westbound and eastbound traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the project limits at the Greyhawk and Pope Road intersection.
  • Signal and turn lane widening work will be taking place at 117th Street East.  This work will include daytime lane closures of the existing turn lanes on SR 64 as needed to accommodate construction efforts.

I-75 at Fruitville Road: Maintenance project: crews will be making repairs on the northbound and southbound I-75 off-ramp and on-ramps. Work is scheduled for overnight hours from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.  There are expected lane closures and slow-moving traffic so motorists should use caution in the area.  Estimated completion end of 2020. The contractor is DBi Services.

I-75 at Jacaranda Boulevard: Landscape installation: Crews will be installing landscaping so no lane closures will be necessary. Estimated completion is late 2020.  The contractor is Frankie Valdez Company. 

I-75 at Sumter Boulevard: Landscape installation: Crews will be installing landscaping and no lane closures will be required. Estimated completion is late 2020.  Contractor is Frankie Valdez Company.

US 41 (South Tamiami Trail) from 17th Street East up to SR 684 (Cortez Road): Maintenance: crews will be performing pothole repairs overnight Monday, December 14, through Friday, December 18, 2020, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures in both the north and south bound lanes.  Contractor is Midwestern Construction.

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota:  Construction project: Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.

  • Daytime lane closures are expected throughout the project limits.
  • Curb and sidewalk installation throughout the project limits.
  • Paving throughout the project is expected until mid-week. Motorist are urged to use caution around paving equipment and trucks. Watch for intermittent side street closures. The paving operation is expected to be a nighttime operation.
  • Grading and irrigation installation in the median area and on the west side of US 41 between 10th Street and 14th Street. Please be cautious of construction vehicles, pickup trucks, and crews working close to travel lanes and entering and leaving the travel lanes.
  • Landscaping plants and materials installation in the median areas. Beware of semi-trucks offloading trees and plants in the median.
  • Signal and installation and fiber optic cable installation throughout the project limits.
  • Brick paver installation at 10th Street and 14th Street along with medians on US 41.

Traffic signals on US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street have been removed, and motorists shall follow roundabout signage and driving conditions. Motorist entering the roundabout regardless of direction of travel, are advised to YEILD to traffic already within the roundabout.

No left turns permitted within the project limits, except at the boat ramp, which has an exclusive left turn lane for north bound traffic.

Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

Motorists are urged to use caution and watch for trucks and other construction equipment within the work zone.

Expect noise from excavators, vibration from rollers, back up alarms, trucks, and construction vehicles throughout the project corridor.

Work is expected during daytime hours, but some activities will require weekend and nighttime work.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a six-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED streetlights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is early winter 2021. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.

US 41 from First Street to Boulevard of the Arts, and on Fruitville Road from US 41 to Cocoanut Avenue: Construction project: Crews have constructed a roundabout at US 41 and Fruitville Road, a 12-foot multi-use trail on the west side of US 41 and a variable-width sidewalk on the east side of US 41; replacing existing underground drainage and utility structures; and installing new LED streetlights and landscaping. Other improvements include raised pedestrian refuge islands and a HAWK pedestrian signalization system.

The roundabout is now open to traffic and access has been restored to all areas previously restricted.  Expect possible intermittent daytime and nighttime lane closures on US 41 between First Street and Boulevard of the Arts for completion of remaining work activities.

US 41 from Blackburn Point Road to Preymore Street: Construction project: Work includes resurfacing the roadway, replacing the US 41 northbound bridge over North Creek, improving drainage, constructing sidewalks and installing new highway lighting along the three-mile work.  For a less than one mile stretch by North Creek Bridge, lanes are reduced to one lane in each direction. This traffic shift is expected to be in place for approximately eight months. Bergeron Land Development, Inc. is the contractor. Expected overall project completion is spring 2021.

US 41 (Venice Bypass) from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard to a six-lane highway; replacing traffic signals, installing new pavement markings and signage; installing concrete curb and sidewalks; improving new drainage, and installing new highway lighting. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. The contractor is Bergeron Land Development, Inc. Expected completion is spring 2021. 

  • Intermittent daytime lane closures will be in effect on southbound US 41 from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. beginning Monday, December 14, through Wednesday, December 23, 2020. Please use caution when traveling in the roadway and watch for crews.
  • A new traffic pattern is now in effect for the southbound and northbound lanes of US 41. Please watch for crews and use caution when traveling the project corridor.
  • Pedestrian traffic has been shifted to the newly constructed sidewalk on the west side of the roadway and a temporary pedestrian access pathway has been established on the east side.

Crews are working within business driveways and in the right-of-way along the northbound and southbound lanes of US 41. Please watch for crews, use caution and follow flagger directions when turning into businesses and shopping plazas. 

US 41 from Panama Drive to 15th Street: Construction permit project: There will be intermittent, alternating southbound and northbound, lane closures starting on November 29 thru December 20, 2020, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Project includes median utility work and the construction of a left turn lane and several driveway connections along US 41.  Please use caution and expect possible delays.

SR 776 between Stout Street and Stoner Road: Maintenance permit project: There will be intermittent lane closures on both the eastbound and westbound lanes through December 2020 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the construction of a left turn lane, right turn lane and driveway connection.  Please use caution.

SR 758 (Higel/ Shell Avenue) from Little Pond Lane to Somerset Drive on Siesta Key: Construction project: This project will improve drainage, resurface the roadway, and improve the sidewalk and shoulder on Higel Avenue from Little Pond Lane to Somerset.  Motorists should expect delays due to single lane traffic and flaggers. The contractor is Heavy Civil, Inc. Expected completion is late 2020, weather permitting.

SR 64 at Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road: Construction project: Construction of  a roundabout at SR 64 and Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road includes installing pedestrian activated crossings on all legs of the roundabout, adding lighting and landscaping, and installing a new traffic signal and crosswalks at SR 64 and 117th Street East.  The contractor is Watson Civil Construction, Inc. Expected completion is summer 2021, weather permitting.

  • Pope Road is closed to thru traffic, utilize the roundabout at SR 64 and White Eagle Boulevard/Rye Road.
  • The Eastbound travel lanes have been reduced to one lane and shifted to the north side of the median through the project.
  • Travel for both westbound and eastbound traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the project limits at the Greyhawk and Pope Road intersection.
  • Signal and turn lane widening work will be taking place at 117th Street East.  This work will include daytime lane closures of the existing turn lanes on SR 64 as needed to accommodate construction efforts.
  • All scheduled work will take place during daytime hours.

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

I-75 at Fruitville Road: Maintenance project: crews will be making repairs on the northbound and southbound I-75 off-ramp and on-ramps. Work is scheduled for overnight hours from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.  There are expected lane closures and slow-moving traffic, so motorists should use caution in the area.  Estimated completion fall 2020. The contractor is DBi Services.

I-75 at Jacaranda Boulevard: Landscape installation: Crews will be installing landscaping and no lane closures will be necessary. Estimated completion is late 2020.  The contractor is Frankie Valdez Company. 

I-75 at Sumter Boulevard: Landscaping installation: Crews will be installing landscaping and no lane closures will be required. Estimated completion is late 2020.  Contractor is Frankie Valdez Company.

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota:  Construction project: Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways. Project includes:

  • Daytime lane closures are expected throughout the project limits.
  • East side curb and asphalt repairs on the north side of the Publix entrance. This will require lane closures and heavy equipment working in the area.
  • Sidewalk and curb installation on east and west side of US 41 between 10th Street and 14th Street. Pedestrians are advised to use the designated sidewalks and crosswalks. Intermittent sidewalk closures are expected as crews work in the areas.
  • Paving throughout the project is expected in the next 2 weeks. Motorist are urged to use caution around paving equipment and trucks. Watch for intermittent side street closures. The paving operation is expected to be a nighttime operation and could take 5 nights to complete.
  • Grading and irrigation installation in the median area and on the west side of US 41 between 10th Street and 14th Street. Please be cautious of construction vehicles, pickup trucks, and crews working close to travel lanes and entering and leaving the travel lanes.
  • Landscaping plants and materials installation in the median areas.
  • Light pole installation is expected at 10th Street intersection and at the south west corner of 14th Street.
  • Brick paver installation continues at 10th Street and 14th Street along with medians on US 41.
  • Crosswalk concrete installation expected at 10th Street and 14th Street roundabouts.

Traffic signals on US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street have been removed, and motorists shall follow roundabout signage and driving conditions. Motorist entering the roundabout regardless of direction of travel, are advised to YEILD to traffic already within the roundabout.

No left turns permitted within the project limits, except at the boat ramp, which has an exclusive left turn lane for north bound traffic.

Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

Motorists are urged to use caution and watch for trucks and other construction equipment within the work zone.

Expect noise from excavators, vibration from rollers, back up alarms, trucks, and construction vehicles throughout the project corridor.

Work is expected during daytime hours, but some activities will require weekend and nighttime work.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a six-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED streetlights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is fall 2020. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.

US 41 from First Street to Boulevard of the Arts, and on Fruitville Road from US 41 to Cocoanut Avenue: Construction project: Crews are constructing a roundabout at US 41 and Fruitville Road, a 12-foot multi-use trail on the west side of US 41 and a variable-width sidewalk on the east side of US 41; replacing existing underground drainage and utility structures; and installing new LED streetlights and landscaping. Other improvements include raised pedestrian refuge islands and a HAWK pedestrian signalization system.

The roundabout is now open to traffic and access has been restored to all areas previously restricted.  From Monday, November 30, through Friday, December 4, expect possible intermittent daytime and nighttime lane closures on US 41 between First Street and Boulevard of the Arts for completion of remaining work activities.

US 41 from Blackburn Point Road to Preymore Street: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, replacing the US 41 northbound bridge over North Creek, improving drainage, constructing sidewalks and installing new highway lighting.  For a less than one mile stretch by North Creek Bridge, lanes are reduced to one lane in each direction. This traffic shift is expected to be in place for approximately eight months. Bergeron Land Development, Inc. is the contractor. Expected overall project completion is spring 2021.

US 41 (Venice Bypass) from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard to a six-lane highway, replacing traffic signals, installing new pavement markings and signage, installing concrete curb and sidewalks, improving new drainage, and installing new highway lighting. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. The contractor is Bergeron Land Development, Inc. Expected completion is spring 2021. 

  • A new traffic pattern is now in effect for the southbound and northbound lanes of US 41. Please watch for crews and use caution when traveling the project corridor.
  • Pedestrian traffic has been shifted to the newly constructed sidewalk on the west side of the roadway and a temporary pedestrian access pathway has been established on the east side.
  • Crews are working within business driveways and in the right-of-way along the northbound and southbound lanes of US 41. Please watch for crews, use caution and follow flagger directions when turning into businesses and shopping plazas. 

US 41 from Panama Drive to 15th Street: Construction permit project: There will be intermittent, alternating southbound and northbound, lane closures starting on November 29 thru December 20, 2020, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Project includes median utility work and the construction of a left turn lane and several driveway connections along US 41.  Please use caution and expect possible delays.

SR 776 between Stout Street and Stoner Road: Maintenance permit project: There will be intermittent lane closures on both the eastbound and westbound lanes through December 2020 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the construction of a left turn lane, right turn lane and driveway connection.  Please use caution.

SR 758 (Higel/ Shell Avenue) from Little Pond Lane to Somerset Drive on Siesta Key: Construction project: This project will improve drainage, resurface the roadway, and improve the sidewalk and shoulder on Higel Avenue from Little Pond Lane to Somerset. 

  • Motorists should expect delays due to single lane traffic and flaggers.

The contractor is Heavy Civil, Inc. Expected completion is fall 2020, weather permitting.

MANATEE COUNTY

I-75 at SR 70 Interchange (Exit 217): Construction project: Crews will work on widening I-75, the ramps, and SR 70. Crews are also working on the retaining walls, excavating interchange and SR 70 stormwater ponds and drainage, installing guardrail, and working on the bridges over SR 70 and the Braden River.

  • During the nighttime/overnight hours on Thursday, October 29, southbound I-75 traffic will shift to the new southbound bridge over SR 70.  Intermittent southbound I-75 on-ramp and off-ramp (Exit 217) closures may be necessary during this work.
  • Beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, October 30, through 5 a.m. on Monday, November 2 (through the weekend), motorists should expect westbound SR 70 shifted to the southside of the roadway, adjacent to the eastbound travel lanes.
  • Motorists should expect lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8:45 p.m. to 6 a.m. (northbound) or 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (southbound) through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 70 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 70 through the duration of the construction.
  • Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is mid-2021. The contractor is Sacyr Construction USA, LLC.

I-75 at US 301 and I-75 at I-275: Landscaping installation: Crews will be relocating royal palms from the interchange at I-75 and US 301 to the interchange at I-75 and I-275. There may be  shoulder closures on the ramps at I-75 and US 301. Motorists can expect trucks entering and leaving the highway at both interchanges throughout the day. Contractor is Superior Lawn and Landscaping. Estimated completion is by November 2020. 

US 301 (State Road 43) from 2nd Avenue to 51st Avenue: Construction project: Expect lane closures intermittently going both north and south on US 301 during day and overnight hours. Superior Asphalt, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2020.

US 301 at 121st Avenue: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing a driveway and right turn lane. There will be intermittent lane closures to the outside turn lane on both eastbound or westbound lanes through November 8, 2020.  There will also be intermittent closures to the inside median turn lane on both the eastbound and westbound lanes. Use caution and expect possible delays.

US 19 from US 41 to Terra Ceia Road: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage and constructing a sidewalk. Expect daytime single lane closures between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and nighttime/overnight lane closures between 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. throughout construction. AJAX Paving Industries of Florida is the contractor. Expected completion is early 2021.

US 19 north from US 41 south: Construction project: There will be intermittent ramp closures both north and south bound from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Motorists should expect detours.

SR 684/Cortez Road from 123rd Street W to 119th Street W and from 123rd Street W to 86th Street W: Construction project: Crews are realigning the intersection of SR 684/Cortez Road and 119th Street W, resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, constructing a sidewalk and installing new highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on SR 684/Cortez Road and on 119th Street W (both north and southside). Daytime lane closures from east of 119th Street W to 86th Street W within the four-lane section of SR 684/Cortez Road are expected from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. over the next few weeks. AJAX Paving Industries of Florida, LLC is the contractor. Expected completion is late 2020.

  • A new traffic pattern is in place, shifting construction to the north side of Cortez Road.  Thru traffic will use the south side of Cortez Road.
  • Also, with the traffic shift to the north side of Cortez Road, the two outbound lanes of Harbor Landing Drive will be closed.  Traffic into Harbor Landings will be detoured to the west on 127th Street, and the Cortez Road entrance lanes will then become the Harbor Landings exit.
  • Please watch for crews and use caution when traveling through the project corridor.

SR 64 at Uihlein Road: Construction permit project: There will be intermittent lane closures on both eastbound and westbound lanes starting November 01 through December 20, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the construction of a left turn lane, right turn lane, and driveway connection.  Please use caution and expect possible delays.

SR 64 at Rye Road Roundabout: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-lane roundabout, resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, and installing new highway lighting and landscaping. IBT Construction is the contractor. Expected completion is scheduled for fall 2020.  Crews will be working on final road preparation, so motorists should expect intermittent lane closures and/ or flagging operations on SR 64, White Eagle Road and Rye Road.

  • Grading and irrigation installation in the median area and on the west side of US 41 between 10th Street and 14th Street. Please be cautious of construction vehicles, pickup trucks, and crews working close to travel lanes and entering and leaving the travel lanes.
  • Light pole installation is expected at 10th Street intersection and at the south west corner of 14th Street.

  • A new traffic pattern is in effect. Southbound traffic has been shifted onto the newly completed portion of the Roundabout on the west side of US 41. Northbound traffic on US 41 has been shifted to the newly completed east half of the roundabout. Two lanes of traffic on US 41 will be maintained in each direction during this phase of construction. Due to this traffic shift, the following maintenance of traffic will be in effect:
  • The northbound left turn movement from US 41 to westbound Boulevard of the Arts will not be allowed. The traffic in the left-hand northbound lane of US 41 will need to proceed to 10th Street and make a left turn at the 10th Street signal and turn left onto Van Wezel Way in order to access Boulevard of the Arts  and the amenities west of US 41. All other traffic movements at the US 41-Boulevard of the Arts intersection will continue to be allowed.
  • Fruitville Road will remain closed to westbound traffic between Cocoanut Avenue and US 41 during this phase of construction.  Motorists desiring to reach US 41 from westbound Fruitville Road will need to turn right onto Lemon Avenue, follow Lemon Avenue to 10th Street, then follow 10th Street to reach US 41. Detour signage is in place.
  • Access has been restored from northbound US 41 to Fifth Street, but there will be no access from northbound US 41 to Fourth Street and the alley located between Fourth and Fifth Streets.
  • No left turns are allowed from southbound US 41 to eastbound Fruitville Road (in effect through fall 2020).  Southbound motorists, if desiring to go east from US 41, will need to turn left at 10th Street, follow 10th Street to Lemon Avenue, turn right at Lemon Avenue and then follow Lemon Avenue to Fruitville Road. Detour signage is in place.
  • From Sunday, November 1, through Saturday, November 7, 2020, expect possible intermittent day and nighttime lane closures on US 41 between First Street and Boulevard of the Arts for roadway work.

  • A new traffic pattern is in place, shifting construction to the north side of Cortez Road.  Thru traffic will use the south side of Cortez Road.
  • Also, with the traffic shift to the north side of Cortez Road, the two outbound lanes of Harbor Landing Drive will be closed.  Traffic into Harbor Landings will be detoured to the west on 127th Street, and the Cortez Road entrance lanes will then become the Harbor Landings exit.
  • Please watch for crews and use caution when traveling through the project corridor.

SR 64 at Uihlein Road: Construction permit project: There will be intermittent lane closures on both eastbound and westbound lanes starting November 01 through December 20, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the construction of a left turn lane, right turn lane, and driveway connection.  Please use caution and expect possible delays.

SR 64 at Rye Road Roundabout: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-lane roundabout, resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, and installing new highway lighting and landscaping. IBT Construction is the contractor. Expected completion is scheduled for fall 2020.  Crews will be working on final road preparation, so motorists should expect intermittent lane closures and/ or flagging operations on SR 64, White Eagle Road and Rye Road.  Motorists should use caution, reduce speed, and pay close attention to traffic patterns.

SR 64 at Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road: Construction project: Construction of  a roundabout at SR 64 and Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road includes installing pedestrian activated crossings on all legs of the roundabout, adding lighting and landscaping, and installing a new traffic signal and crosswalks at SR 64 and 117th Street East.  The contractor is Watson Civil Construction, Inc. Expected completion is summer 2021, weather permitting.

  • Pope Road is closed to thru traffic, utilize the roundabout at SR 64 and White Eagle Boulevard/Rye Road.
  • The Eastbound travel lanes have been reduced to one lane and shifted to the north side of the median through the project.
  • Travel for both westbound and eastbound traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the project limits at the Greyhawk and Pope Road intersection.
  • Signal work will be taking place at 117th Street East, most of the work will be performed outside of the roadway, but there will be a locator monitoring directional bore operations across the roadway during conduit installations beneath the roadway. Tentative lane/shoulder closures for work taking place outside of the roadway as needed. 
  • All scheduled work will take place during daytime hours.

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

I-75 at Jacaranda Boulevard: Landscape installation: Crews will be installing landscaping and no lane closures will be necessary. Estimated completion is late 2020.  The contractor is Frankie Valdez Company.

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota:  Construction project: Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.

  • Daytime lane closures are expected throughout the project limits.
  • Sidewalk and curb installation on both side of US 41 between 10th Street and 14th Street. Pedestrians are advised to use the designated sidewalks and crosswalks. Intermittent sidewalk closures are expected as crews work in the areas.
  • Curb installation at 14th Street on the north side and south side. Expect lane closures and flaggers directing traffic while crews form and pour concrete.
  • Grading and irrigation installation in the median area and on the west side of US 41 between 10th Street and 14th Street. Please be cautious of construction vehicles, pickup trucks, and crews working close to travel lanes and entering and leaving the travel lanes.
  • Light pole installation is expected at 10th Street intersection and at the south west corner of 14th Street.
  • Asphalt removal and curb installation expected on the east side between 12th Street and 14th Street. Final grading around The Reserve driveway expected over the next 2 weeks.
  • Asphalt removal expected on the west side of US 41 between the boat ramp and 10th Street. Expect noise from asphalt removal operations and trucks entering and leaving the travel lanes.

Traffic signals on US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street have been removed, and motorists shall follow roundabout signage and driving conditions. Motorist entering the roundabout regardless of direction of travel, are advised to YEILD to traffic already within the roundabout.

No left turns permitted within the project limits, except at the boat ramp, which has an exclusive left turn lane for north bound traffic.

Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

Motorists are urged to use caution and watch for trucks and other construction equipment within the work zone.

Expect noise from excavators, vibration from rollers, back up alarms, trucks, and construction vehicles throughout the project corridor.

Work is expected during daytime hours, but some activities will require weekend and nighttime work.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a six-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED streetlights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is fall 2020. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.

US 41 from First Street to Boulevard of the Arts, and on Fruitville Road from US 41 to Cocoanut Avenue: Construction project: Crews are constructing a roundabout at US 41 and Fruitville Road, a 12-foot multi-use trail on the west side of US 41 and a variable-width sidewalk on the east side of US 41; replacing existing underground drainage and utility structures, and installing new LED streetlights and landscaping. Other improvements include raised pedestrian refuge islands and a HAWK pedestrian signalization system. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Wright Construction, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2020.

  • A new traffic pattern is in effect. Southbound traffic has been shifted onto the newly completed portion of the Roundabout on the west side of US 41. Northbound traffic on US 41 has been shifted to the newly completed east half of the roundabout. Two lanes of traffic on US 41 will be maintained in each direction during this phase of construction. Due to this traffic shift, the following maintenance of traffic will be in effect:
  • The northbound left turn movement from US 41 to westbound Boulevard of the Arts will not be allowed. The traffic in the left-hand northbound lane of US 41 will need to proceed to 10th Street and make a left turn at the 10th Street signal and turn left onto Van Wezel Way in order to access Boulevard of the Arts  and the amenities west of US 41. All other traffic movements at the US 41-Boulevard of the Arts intersection will continue to be allowed.
  • Fruitville Road will remain closed to westbound traffic between Cocoanut Avenue and US 41 during this phase of construction.  Motorists desiring to reach US 41 from westbound Fruitville Road will need to turn right onto Lemon Avenue, follow Lemon Avenue to 10th Street, then follow 10th Street to reach US 41. Detour signage is in place.
  • Access has been restored from northbound US 41 to Fifth Street, but there will be no access from northbound US 41 to Fourth Street and the alley located between Fourth and Fifth Streets.
  • No left turns are allowed from southbound US 41 to eastbound Fruitville Road (in effect through fall 2020).  Southbound motorists, if desiring to go east from US 41, will need to turn left at 10th Street, follow 10th Street to Lemon Avenue, turn right at Lemon Avenue and then follow Lemon Avenue to Fruitville Road. Detour signage is in place.
  • From Sunday, October 25, through Saturday, October 31, expect possible intermittent daytime and nighttime lane closures on US 41 between First Street and Boulevard of the Arts for roadway work.

US 41 from Blackburn Point Road to Preymore Street: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, replacing the US 41 northbound bridge over North Creek, improving drainage, constructing sidewalks and installing new highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight northbound lane closures from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and nighttime/overnight southbound lane closures from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 a.m. Northbound traffic will shift to one of the southbound lanes, reducing traffic to one lane each direction. The traffic shift is expected to be in place for approximately eight months while crews reconstruct the northbound bridge over North Creek. Bergeron Land Development, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2021.

US 41 (Venice Bypass) from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard to a six-lane highway; replacing traffic signals, installing new pavement markings and signage; installing concrete curb and sidewalks; improving new drainage, and installing new highway lighting. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. The contractor is Bergeron Land Development, Inc. Expected completion is spring 2021. 

  • A new traffic pattern is now in effect for the southbound and northbound lanes of US 41. Please watch for crews and use caution when traveling through the project corridor.
  • Pedestrian traffic has been shifted to the newly constructed sidewalk on the west side of the roadway and a temporary pedestrian access pathway has been established on the east side.
  • Crews are working within business driveways and in the right-of-way along the northbound and southbound lanes of US 41. Please watch for crews, use caution and follow flagger directions when turning into businesses and shopping plazas. 
  • Motorists should expect temporary northbound and southbound lane closures on US 41 between Center Road and Gulf Coast Boulevard from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, October 25, to Saturday, October 31, to perform drainage pipe installation.

SR 776 between Stout Street and Stoner Road: Maintenance permit project: There will be intermittent lane closures on both the inside and outside lanes for the eastbound and westbound lanes through November 30, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the construction of a left turn lane, right turn lane and driveway connection.  Please use caution and expect possible delays.

SR 72 Stickney Point Draw Bridge, Siesta Key: Bridge maintenance: Crews will be making routine repairs to bridge structure. There will be intermittent east and west bound right lane closures through Thursday, October 29, 2020. Work will take place during overnight hours from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. The contractor is DBI Services.

SR 758 Siesta Drive Draw Bridge, Siesta Key: Bridge maintenance: Crews will be making routine repairs to the bridge structure. There will be flagging operations during intermittent east and west bound lane closures from Sunday, October 25, to Thursday, October 29, 2020. Work will take place during overnight hours from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. The contractor is DBI Services.

SR 758 (Higel/ Shell Avenue) from Little Pond Lane to Somerset Drive on Siesta Key: Construction project: This project improves drainage, resurfaces the roadway, and improves the sidewalk and shoulder on Higel Avenue from Little Pond Lane to Somerset Drive. 

  • Crews are working on clearing the drainage easement and shoulder work. 
  • Motorists should expect delays due to single lane traffic and flaggers.
  • Expect overnight construction through Friday, October 30, 2020.

The contractor is Heavy Civil, Inc. Expected completion is fall 2020, weather permitting.

MANATEE COUNTY

I-75 at SR 70 Interchange (Exit 217): Construction project: Crews will work on widening I-75,the ramps, and SR 70. Crews are also working on the retaining walls, excavating interchange and SR 70 stormwater ponds and drainage, installing guardrail, and working on the bridges over SR 70 and the Braden River.

  • During the nighttime/overnight hours of 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., on Sunday, October 18 and Monday, October 19, motorists should expect the southbound I-75 onramp to be CLOSED.  Motorists wishing to access I-75 southbound from SR 70 may enter I-75 northbound to SR 64 (Exit 220) to return southbound. 
  • Motorists should expect lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8:45 p.m. to 6 a.m. (northbound) or 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (southbound) through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 70 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 70 through the duration of the construction.
  • Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is mid-2021. The contractor is Sacyr Construction USA, LLC.

I-75 at US 301 and I-75 at I-275: Landscaping installation: Crews will be relocating royal palms from the interchange at I-75 and US 301 north to the interchange at I-75 and I-275. There may be shoulder closures on the ramps at I-75 and US 301. Motorists can expect trucks entering and leaving the highway at both interchanges throughout the day. The activity will occur Monday, October, 19, through Saturday, October 24, 2020, during daylight hours. Contractor is Superior Lawn and Landscaping. Estimated completion is by end of 2020. 

US 41 at 9th Street West and SR 64 Manatee Avenue: Construction project: Crews will be modifying the bulb-out in the northwest quadrant of the intersection, relocating the pedestrian signal, and installing a new pedestrian warning mat at the crosswalk.  Lane closures will not be permitted from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists are urged to use caution in the construction zone and expect delays. Work is expected to be completed in fall 2020, weather permitting. Contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida.

US 301 (State Road 43) from 2nd Avenue to 51st Avenue: Construction project: Expect lane closures intermittently going both north and south on US 301 during day and overnight hours. Superior Asphalt, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2020.

US 301 at 121st Avenue: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing a driveway and right turn lane.

  • There will be intermittent lane closures to the outside turn lane on both eastbound or westbound lanes through October 25, 2020.  There will also be intermittent closures to the inside median turn lane on both the eastbound and westbound lanes.
  • Use caution and expect possible delays.

There will be flagging operations during intermittent east and west bound lane closures from Sunday, October 25, to Thursday, October 29, 2020. Work will take place during overnight hours from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. The contractor is DBI Services.

SR 758 (Higel/ Shell Avenue) from Little Pond Lane to Somerset Drive on Siesta Key: Construction project: This project improves drainage, resurfaces the roadway, and improves the sidewalk and shoulder on Higel Avenue from Little Pond Lane to Somerset Drive. 

  • Crews are working on clearing the drainage easement and shoulder work. 
  • Motorists should expect delays due to single lane traffic and flaggers.
  • Expect overnight construction through Friday, October 30, 2020.

MANATEE COUNTY

I-75 at SR 70 Interchange (Exit 217): Construction project: Crews will work on widening I-75, the ramps, and SR 70. Crews are also working on the retaining walls, excavating interchange and SR 70 stormwater ponds and drainage, and working on the bridges over SR 70 and the Braden River.

  • Motorists should expect lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8:45 p.m. to 6 a.m. (northbound) or 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (southbound) through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 70 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 70 through the duration of the construction.
  • Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is mid 2021. The contractor is Sacyr Construction USA, LLC.

I-75 at US 301 and I-75 at I-275: Landscaping installation: Crews will be relocating royal palms from the interchange at I-75 and US 301 north to the interchange at I-75 and I-275.  No lane closures required. Contractor is Superior Lawn and Landscaping. Estimated completion is by end of 2020.  

US 41 at 9th Street West and SR 64 Manatee Avenue: Construction project: Crews are expected to start as early as Monday, October 12, and expect to be completed by fall 2020, weather permitting. Project scope includes modifying the bulb-out in the northwest quadrant of the intersection, relocating the pedestrian signal, and installing a new pedestrian warning mat at the crosswalk.  This week, crews are performing concrete work on the sidewalk and crosswalk ramps.  Lane closures will not be permitted from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists are urged to use caution in the construction zone and expect delays. Contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida.

US 301 (State Road 43) from 2nd Avenue to 51st Avenue: Construction project: Expect lane closures intermittently going both north and south on US 301 during day and overnight hours. Superior Asphalt, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2020.

US 301 at 121st Avenue: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing a driveway and right turn lane.

  • There will be intermittent lane closures to the outside turn lane on both eastbound or westbound lanes through October 25, 2020.  There will also be intermittent closures to the inside median turn lane on both the eastbound and westbound lanes.
  • Use caution and expect possible delays.

US 19 from US 41 to Terra Ceia Road: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage and constructing a sidewalk. Expect daytime single lane closures between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and nighttime/overnight lane closures between 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. throughout construction. AJAX Paving Industries of Florida is the contractor. Expected completion is early 2021.

US 19 north from US 41 south: Construction project: There will be intermittent ramp closures both north and south bound on  Tuesday, October13, through Friday, October 16, and from Monday, October 19, through Friday October 23, from  8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Motorists should expect detours.

SR 684/Cortez Road from 123rd Street W to 119th Street W and from 123rd Street W to 86th Street W: Construction project: Crews are realigning the intersection of SR 684/Cortez Road and 119th Street W, resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, constructing a sidewalk and installing new highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on SR 684/Cortez Road and on 119th Street W (both north and southside). Daytime lane closures from east of 119th Street W to 86th Street W within the four-lane section of SR 684/Cortez Road are expected from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. over the next few weeks. AJAX Paving Industries of Florida, LLC is the contractor. Expected completion is late 2020.

  • A new traffic pattern is in place, shifting construction to the north side of Cortez Road.  Thru traffic will use the south side of Cortez Road.
  • Also, with the traffic shift to the north side of Cortez Road, the two outbound lanes of Harbor Landing Drive will be closed.  Traffic into Harbor Landings will be detoured to the west on 127th Street, and the Cortez Road entrance lanes will then become the Harbor Landings exit.
  • Please watch for crews and use caution when traveling through the project corridor.

SR 64 at Rye Road Roundabout: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-lane roundabout, resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, and installing new highway lighting and landscaping. IBT Construction is the contractor. Expected completion is scheduled for fall 2020.  Crews will be working on final road preparation, so motorists should expect intermittent lane closures and/ or flagging operations on SR 64, White Eagle Road and Rye Road.  Motorists should use caution, reduce speed, and pay close attention to traffic patterns.

SR 64 at Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road: Construction project: Construction of  a roundabout at SR 64 and Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road includes installing pedestrian activated crossings on all legs of the roundabout, adding lighting and landscaping, and installing a new traffic signal and crosswalks at SR 64 and 117th Street East.  The contractor is Watson Civil Construction, Inc. Expected completion is summer 2021, weather permitting.

  • Pope Road is closed to thru traffic, utilize the roundabout at SR 64 and White Eagle Boulevard/Rye Road.
  • The Eastbound travel lanes have been reduced to one lane and shifted to the north side of the median through the project.
  • Travel for both westbound and eastbound traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the project limits at the Greyhawk and Pope Road intersection.
  • Signal work will be taking place at 117th Street East, most of the work will be performed outside of the roadway. There are tentative lane closures of outside or inside travel lanes as needed scheduled on SR 64 for overhead signal installations at various times during the week.  Law enforcement officers will be present during intersection.
  • Sunday night, October 11, and possibly Monday, October 12, 2020, starting at 7 p.m., crews will be excavating adjacent to the eastbound travel lane at the Greyhawk intersection to investigate existing utilities. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with a flagging operation. 

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

I-75 at Jacaranda Boulevard: Landscaping installation: Crews will be installing landscaping. Contractor is Frankie Valdez Company.  No lane closures are required. Estimated completion is late 2020.

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota:  Construction project: Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.

  • Daytime lane closures are expected throughout the project limits.
  • Traffic shift to final configuration starting Friday, October 9. Minor shift in travel lanes is expected. Roundabout functions will remain unchanged. Traffic entering roundabout shall continue to yield.
  • Grading and irrigation installation in the median area and on the west side of US 41 between 10th Street and 14th Street. Please be cautious of construction vehicles, pickup trucks, and crews working close to travel lanes and entering and leaving the travel lanes.
  • Light pole foundation installation is expected at 10th Street intersection and at the south west corner of 14th Street.
  • Asphalt removal and curb installation expected on the east side between 12th Street and 14th Street. Final grading around The Reserve driveway expected over the next 2 weeks.
  • Asphalt removal expected on the west side of US 41 between the boat ramp and 10th Street. Expect noise from asphalt removal operations and trucks entering and leaving the travel lanes.
  • Grading for sidewalk and curb installation on the east side of US 41 on 10th Street.
  • Sidewalk on the west side and east side of US 41 between 10th Street and 14th Street are open for public access. Pedestrians are advised to use the designated sidewalks and crosswalks. Intermittent sidewalk closures are expected as crews work in the areas.

Traffic signals on US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street have been removed, and motorists shall follow roundabout signage and driving conditions. Motorist entering the roundabout regardless of direction of travel, are advised to YEILD to traffic already within the roundabout.

No left turns permitted within the project limits, except at the boat ramp, which has an exclusive left turn lane for north bound traffic.

Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

Motorists are urged to use caution and watch for trucks and other construction equipment within the work zone.

Expect noise from excavators, vibration from rollers, back up alarms, trucks, and construction vehicles throughout the project corridor.

Work is expected during daytime hours, but some activities will require weekend and nighttime work.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a six-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED streetlights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is fall 2020. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.

US 41 from First Street to Boulevard of the Arts, and on Fruitville Road from US 41 to Cocoanut Avenue: Construction project: Crews are constructing a roundabout at US 41 and Fruitville Road, a 12-foot multi-use trail on the west side of US 41 and a variable-width sidewalk on the east side of US 41; replacing existing underground drainage and utility structures, installing new LED streetlights and landscaping. Other improvements include raised pedestrian refuge islands and a HAWK pedestrian signalization system. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Wright Construction, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2020.

  • A new traffic pattern is in effect. Southbound traffic has been shifted onto the newly completed portion of the Roundabout on the west side of US 41. Northbound traffic on US 41 has been shifted to the newly completed east half of the roundabout. Two lanes of traffic on US 41 will be maintained in each direction during this phase of construction. Due to this traffic shift, the following maintenance of traffic will be in effect:
    • The northbound left turn movement from US 41 to westbound Boulevard of the Arts will not be allowed. The traffic in the left-hand northbound lane of US 41 will need to proceed to 10th Street and make a left turn at the 10th Street signal and turn left onto Van Wezel Way in order to access Boulevard of the Arts  and the amenities west of US 41. All other traffic movements at the US 41-Boulevard of the Arts intersection will continue to be allowed.
  • Fruitville Road will remain closed to westbound traffic between Cocoanut Avenue and US 41 during this phase of construction.  Motorists desiring to reach US 41 from westbound Fruitville Road will need to turn right onto Lemon Avenue, follow Lemon Avenue to 10th Street, then follow 10th Street to reach US 41. Detour signage is in place.
  • Access has been restored from northbound US 41 to Fifth Street, but there will be no access from northbound US 41 to Fourth Street and the alley located between Fourth and Fifth Streets.
  • No left turns are allowed from southbound US 41 to eastbound Fruitville Road (in effect through fall 2020).  Southbound motorists, if desiring to go east from US 41, will need to turn left at 10th Street, follow 10th Street to Lemon Avenue, turn right at Lemon Avenue and then follow Lemon Avenue to Fruitville Road. Detour signage is in place.
  • From Sunday, October 11, through Saturday, October 17, expect possible intermittent daytime and nighttime lane closures on US 41 between First Street and Boulevard of the Arts for roadway work.

US 41 from Blackburn Point Road to Preymore Street: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, replacing the US 41 northbound bridge over North Creek, improving drainage, constructing sidewalks and installing new highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight northbound lane closures from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and nighttime/overnight southbound lane closures from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 a.m. Northbound traffic will shift to one of the southbound lanes, reducing traffic to one lane each direction. The traffic shift is expected to be in place for approximately eight months while crews reconstruct the northbound bridge over North Creek. Bergeron Land Development, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2021.

US 41 (Venice Bypass) from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard to a six-lane highway; replacing traffic signals, installing new pavement markings and signage; installing concrete curb and sidewalks; improving new drainage, and installing new highway lighting. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. The contractor is Bergeron Land Development, Inc. Expected completion is spring 2021. 

  • A new traffic pattern is now in effect for the southbound and northbound lanes of US 41. Please watch for crews and use caution when traveling through the project corridor.
  • Pedestrian traffic has been shifted to the newly constructed sidewalk on the west side of the roadway and a temporary pedestrian access pathway has been established on the east side.

  • Night work is expected Sunday night and Monday night for placement of asphalt pavement and minor traffic switch. Minor shift in travel lanes is expected. Roundabout functions will remain unchanged. Traffic entering roundabout shall continue to yield.
  • Light pole foundation installation is expected at 10th Street intersection and at the south west corner of 14th Street. Sidewalk on the west side of US 41 will be impacted and may be closed temporarily. Please use designated sidewalk on the east side as an alternate route.
  • Irrigation installation in the medians is expected throughout the week.
  • Crews are also expected to grade for sidewalk and curb on the east side of US 41 on 10th Street.
  • Drainage structure installation continues throughout the week.

US 41 from First Street to Boulevard of the Arts, and on Fruitville Road from US 41 to Cocoanut Avenue: Construction project: Crews are constructing a roundabout at US 41 and Fruitville Road, a 12-foot multi-use trail on the west side of US 41 and a variable-width sidewalk on the east side of US 41; replacing existing underground drainage and utility structures, and installing new LED streetlights and landscaping. Other improvements include raised pedestrian refuge islands and a HAWK pedestrian signalization system. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Wright Construction, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2020.

  • Beginning Tuesday afternoon, October 6, until Thursday morning, October 8, crews will close the right-turn access from northbound US 41 onto eastbound Fruitville Road and the eastbound lanes of Fruitville Road from US 41 to Cocoanut Avenue to mill and resurface the roadway. During this same period paving crews will place asphalt on the west side of US 41 to complete the west side of the roundabout.  All of this work will be performed during nighttime hours with lane closures along US 41.  These construction activities are critical so that the roadway crews can move to the final phases of construction.
    • Motorists desiring to make a right turn onto eastbound Fruitville Road from northbound US 41 can continue north and complete a right turn onto 10th Street, follow 10th Street to turn right (southbound) onto Lemon Avenue and turn left (eastbound) onto Fruitville Road. Detour signage will be in place.
  • Beginning Thursday, October 8, southbound US 41 traffic will be shifted to the newly completed west half of the roundabout.  Northbound US 41 traffic will be realigned to the more permanent configuration of the roundabout.  During this phase the remaining center portion of the roundabout will be constructed. Due to this traffic shift, the following maintenance of traffic will be in effect:
    • Two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction on US 41 during this phase of construction with intermittent lane closures.
    • Fruitville Road will remain closed to westbound traffic between Cocoanut Avenue and US 41 during this phase of construction.
    • The northbound left turn movement from US 41 to westbound Boulevard of the Arts will not be allowed. The traffic in the left-hand northbound lane of US 41 will need to proceed to 10th Street and make a left turn at the 10th Street signal and turn left onto Van Wezel Way in order to access Boulevard of the Arts  and the amenities west of US 41. All other traffic movements at the US 41-Boulevard of the Arts intersection will continue to be allowed.
  • From Sunday, October 4, through Saturday, October 10, expect possible intermittent daytime and nighttime lane closures on US 41 between First Street and Boulevard of the Arts for roadway work.

SR 776 between Stout Street and Stoner Road: Maintenance permit project: There will be intermittent lane closures on both the inside and outside lanes for the eastbound and westbound lanes through November 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the construction of a left turn lane, right turn lane and driveway connection.  Please use caution and expect possible delays.

SR 758 (Higel/ Shell Avenue) from Little Pond Lane to Somerset Drive on Siesta Key: Construction project: This project improves drainage, resurfaces the roadway, and improves the sidewalk and shoulder on Higel Avenue from Little Pond Lane to Somerset Drive. 

  • Crews are working on clearing the drainage easement and shoulder work. 
  • Motorists should expect delays due to single lane traffic and flaggers.
  • Expect overnight construction through Friday, October 18.

The contractor is Heavy Civil, Inc. Expected completion is fall 2020, weather permitting.

US 41 from Blackburn Point Road to Preymore Street: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, replacing the US 41 northbound bridge over North Creek, improving drainage, constructing sidewalks and installing new highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight northbound lane closures from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and nighttime/overnight southbound lane closures from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 a.m. Northbound traffic will shift to one of the southbound lanes, reducing traffic to one lane each direction. The traffic shift is expected to be in place for approximately eight months while crews reconstruct the northbound bridge over North Creek. Bergeron Land Development, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2021.

US 41 (Venice Bypass) from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard to a six-lane highway; replacing traffic signals, installing new pavement markings and signage; installing concrete curb and sidewalks; improving new drainage, and installing new highway lighting. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. The contractor is Bergeron Land Development, Inc. Expected completion is spring 2021. 

  • A new traffic pattern is now in effect for the southbound and northbound lanes of US 41. Please watch for crews and use caution when traveling through the project corridor.
  • Pedestrian traffic has been shifted to the newly constructed sidewalk on the west side of the roadway and a temporary pedestrian access pathway has been established on the east side.
  • Crews are working within business driveways and in the right-of-way along the northbound and southbound lanes of US 41. Please watch for crews, use caution and follow flagger directions when turning into businesses and shopping plazas. 
  • Motorists should expect temporary northbound and southbound lane closures on US 41 between Center Road and Gulf Coast Boulevard from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, October 4, to Saturday, October 10, to perform drainage pipe installation.

I-75 at SR 70 Interchange (Exit 217): Construction project: This week, crews will work on widening I-75, the ramps, and SR 70. Crews are also working on the retaining walls, excavating interchange and SR 70 stormwater ponds and drainage, and working on the bridges over SR 70 and the Braden River.

  • Motorists should expect lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8:45 p.m. to 6 a.m. (northbound) or 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (southbound) through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 70 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 70 through the duration of the construction.
  • Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is mid-2021. The contractor is Sacyr Construction USA, LLC.

US 301 (State Road 43) from 2nd Avenue to 51st Avenue: Construction project: Crews will be paving the roadway for the next two weeks. Expect lane closures going both north and south on US 301 during day and overnight hours. Superior Asphalt, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2020.

US 301 at 121st Avenue: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing a driveway and right turn lane.

  • There will be intermittent lane closures to the outside turn lane on both eastbound or westbound lanes through October 4, 2020.  There will also be intermittent closures to the inside median turn lane on both the eastbound and westbound lanes.
  • Use caution and expect possible delays.

US 19 from US 41 to Terra Ceia Road: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage and constructing a sidewalk. Expect daytime single lane closures between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and nighttime/overnight lane closures between 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. throughout construction. AJAX Paving Industries of Florida is the contractor. Expected completion is early 2021.

SR 684/Cortez Road from 123rd Street W to 119th Street W and from 123rd Street W to 86th Street W: Construction project: Crews are realigning the intersection of SR 684/Cortez Road and 119th Street W, resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, constructing a sidewalk and installing new highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on SR 684/Cortez Road and on 119th Street W (both north and southside). Daytime lane closures from east of 119th Street W to 86th Street W within the four-lane section of SR 684/Cortez Road are expected from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. over the next few weeks. AJAX Paving Industries of Florida, LLC is the contractor. Expected completion is late 2020.

  • Starting as early as September 28, there will be a new traffic pattern, shifting construction to the north side of Cortez Road.  Thru traffic will then use the south side of Cortez Road.
  • Also, with the traffic shift to the north side of Cortez Road, the two outbound lanes of Harbor Landing Drive will be closed.  Traffic into Harbor Landings will be detoured to the west on 127th Street, and the Cortez Road entrance lanes will then become the Harbor Landings exit.
  • Please watch for crews and use caution when traveling through the project corridor.

SR 64 at Rye Road Roundabout: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-lane roundabout, resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, and installing new highway lighting and landscaping. IBT Construction is the contractor. Expected completion is scheduled for fall 2020.

  • This week crews will be working on curbs and sidewalks, so motorists should expect intermittent lane closures and/ or flagging operations on SR 64, White Eagle Road and Rye Road from Sunday, September 27, through Friday, October 2.
  • Motorists should use caution, reduce speed, and pay close attention to traffic patterns.

SR 64 at Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road: Construction project: Construction of  a roundabout at SR 64 and Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road includes installing pedestrian activated crossings on all legs of the roundabout, adding lighting and landscaping, and installing a new traffic signal and crosswalks at SR 64 and 117th Street East.  The contractor is Watson Civil Construction, Inc. Expected completion is summer 2021, weather permitting.

  • Pope Road is closed to thru traffic, utilize the roundabout at SR 64 and White Eagle Boulevard/Rye Road.
  • The Eastbound travel lanes have been reduced to one lane and shifted to the north side of the median through the project.
  • Travel for both westbound and eastbound traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the project limits at the Greyhawk and Pope Road intersection.
  • Signal work will be taking place at 117th Street East, most of the work will be performed outside of the roadway. There are tentative lane closures of outside or inside travel lanes as needed scheduled on SR 64 for overhead signal installations at various times during the week.  Law enforcement officers will be present.  
  • All scheduled work will take place during daytime hours.

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota:  Construction project: Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.

  • Daytime lane closures are expected throughout the project limits.
  • Crews are expected to start grading for the roadway and driveways on the east side of 14th
  • Curb installation in the median area, 10th Street and 14th Street roundabouts to continue throughout the week. Please be cautious of construction vehicles, concrete trucks, pickup trucks, and crews working close to travel lanes and entering and leaving the travel lanes.
  • Truck aprons are scheduled to be installed at 10th Street and 14th Street roundabouts. Work is scheduled during the daytime. Traffic going through the roundabouts will be impacted, with some of the movements being restricted.
  • Night work is expected Tuesday night and Wednesday night for paving slight traffic switch. Minor shift in travel lanes is expected. Roundabout functions will remain unchanged. Traffic entering roundabout shall continue to yield.
  • Light pole foundation installation is expected at 10th Street intersection and at the south west corner of 14th Sidewalk on the west side of US 41 will be impacted and may be closed temporarily. Please use designated sidewalk on the east side as an alternate route.
  • Irrigation installation in the medians is expected throughout the week.
  • Crews are also expected to grade for sidewalk and curb on the east side of US 41 on 10th
  • Drainage structure installation continues throughout the week.
  • Traffic signals on US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street have been removed, and motorists shall follow roundabout signage and driving conditions. Motorist entering the roundabout regardless of direction of travel, are advised to YEILD to traffic already within the roundabout.
  • Sidewalk on the west side and east side of US 41 between 10th Street and 14th Street are open for public access. Pedestrians are advised to use the designated sidewalks and crosswalks. Intermittent sidewalk closures are expected as crews work in the areas.

No left turns permitted within the project limits, except at the boat ramp, which has an exclusive left turn lane for north bound traffic.

Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

Motorists are urged to use caution and watch for trucks and other construction equipment within the work zone.

Expect noise from excavators, vibration from rollers, back up alarms, trucks, and construction vehicles throughout the project corridor.

Work is expected during daytime hours, but some activities will require weekend and nighttime work.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a six-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED streetlights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Due to this traffic shift, the following maintenance of traffic will be in effect:
    • The northbound left turn movement from US 41 to westbound Boulevard of the Arts will not be allowed.     • Southbound motorists, if desiring to go east from US 41, will need to turn left at 10th Street, follow 10th Street to Lemon Avenue, turn right at Lemon Avenue and then follow Lemon Avenue to Fruitville Road. Detour signage is in place.
    • From Sunday, September 27, through Saturday, October 3, expect possible intermittent daytime and nighttime lane closures on US 41 between First Street and Boulevard of the Arts for roadway work.

  • Light pole foundation installation is expected at 10th Street intersection and at the south west corner of 14th Sidewalk on the west side of US 41 will be impacted and may be closed temporarily. Please use designated sidewalk on the east side as an alternate route.
  • Irrigation installation in the medians is expected throughout the week.
  • Crews are also expected to grade for sidewalk and curb on the east side of US 41 on 10th
  • Drainage structure installation continues throughout the week.
  • Traffic signals on US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street have been removed, and motorists shall follow roundabout signage and driving conditions. Motorist entering the roundabout regardless of direction of travel, are advised to YEILD to traffic already within the roundabout.
  • Sidewalk on the west side and east side of US 41 between 10th Street and 14th Street are open for public access. Pedestrians are advised to use the designated sidewalks and crosswalks. Intermittent sidewalk closures are expected as crews work in the areas.

No left turns permitted within the project limits, except at the boat ramp, which has an exclusive left turn lane for north bound traffic.

Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

Motorists are urged to use caution and watch for trucks and other construction equipment within the work zone.

Expect noise from excavators, vibration from rollers, back up alarms, trucks, and construction vehicles throughout the project corridor.

Work is expected during daytime hours, but some activities will require weekend and nighttime work.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a six-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED streetlights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is fall 2020. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.

US 41 from First Street to Boulevard of the Arts, and on Fruitville Road from US 41 and  Cocoanut Avenue: Construction project: Crews are constructing a roundabout at US 41 and Fruitville Road, a 12-foot multi-use trail on the west side of US 41 and a variable-width sidewalk on the east side of US 41; replacing existing underground drainage and utility structures, and installing new LED streetlights and landscaping. Other improvements include raised pedestrian refuge islands and a HAWK pedestrian signalization system. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Wright Construction, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2020.

  • A new traffic pattern is in effect. Southbound traffic has been shifted onto the newly completed portion of the roadway on the west side of US 41. Northbound traffic on US 41 has been shifted to the newly completed east half of the roundabout. Two lanes of traffic on US 41 will be maintained in each direction during this phase of construction. Due to this traffic shift, the following maintenance of traffic will be in effect:
  • The northbound left turn movement from US 41 to westbound Boulevardof the Arts will not be allowed. The traffic in the left-hand northbound lane of US 41 will need to proceed to 10thStreetand make a left turn at the 10thStreet signal and turn left onto Van Wezel Way in order to access Boulevard of the Arts  and the amenities west of US 41. All other traffic movements at the US 41-Boulevard of the Arts intersection will continue to be allowed.
  • Fruitville Road will remain closed to westbound traffic between Cocoanut Avenue and US 41 during this phase of construction.
  • Access has been restored from northbound US 41 to Fifth Street, but there will be no access from northbound US 41 to Fourth Streetand the alley located between Fourth and Fifth Streets.
  • Westbound Fruitville Road is closed to all traffic from Cocoanut Avenue to US 41. Motorists desiring to reach US 41 from westbound Fruitville Roadwill need to turn right onto Lemon Avenue, follow Lemon Avenue to 10th Street, then follow 10th Streetto reach US 41. Detour signage is in place.
  • No left turns are allowed from southbound US 41 to eastbound Fruitville Road(in effect through fall 2020).
  • Southbound motorists, if desiring to go east from US 41, will need to turn left at 10th Street, follow 10th Streetto Lemon Avenue, turn right at Lemon Avenue and then follow Lemon Avenue to Fruitville Road. Detour signage is in place.
  • From Sunday, September 20, through Saturday, September 26, expect possible intermittent daytime and nighttime lane closures on US 41 between First Street and Boulevardof the Arts for roadway work.

US 301 at 121st Avenue: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing a driveway and right turn lane.

  • There will be intermittent lane closures to the outside turn lane on both eastbound or westbound lanes through October 4, 2020.  There will also be intermittent closures to the inside median turn lane on both the eastbound and westbound lanes.
  • Use caution and expect possible delays.

SR 776 between Stout Street and Stoner Road: Maintenance permit project: There will be intermittent lane closures on both the inside and outside lanes for the eastbound and westbound lanes through November 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the construction of a left turn lane, right turn lane and driveway connection.  Please use caution and expect possible delays.

SR 758 (Higel Avenue) from Little Pond Lane to Somerset Drive on Siesta Key: Construction project: This project improves drainage, resurfaces the roadway, and improves the sidewalk and shoulder on Higel Avenue from Little Pond Lane to Somerset Drive. 

  • Crews are working on clearing the drainage easement and shoulder work. 
  • Motorists should expect delays due to single lane traffic and flaggers.
  • Beginning Sunday, September 27, through Friday, October 18, expect overnight construction.

The contractor is Heavy Civil, Inc. Expected completion is fall 2020, weather permitting.

US 41 from Blackburn Point Road to Preymore Street: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, replacing the US 41 northbound bridge over North Creek, improving drainage, constructing sidewalks and installing new highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight northbound lane closures from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and nighttime/overnight southbound lane closures from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 a.m. Northbound traffic will shift to one of the southbound lanes, reducing traffic to one lane each direction. The traffic shift is expected to be in place for approximately eight months while crews reconstruct the northbound bridge over North Creek. Bergeron Land Development, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2021.

US 41 (Venice Bypass) from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard to a six-lane highway; replacing traffic signals, installing new pavement markings and signage; installing concrete curb and sidewalks; improving new drainage, and installing new highway lighting. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. The contractor is Bergeron Land Development, Inc. Expected completion is spring 2021. 

  • A new traffic pattern is now in effect for the southbound and northbound lanes of US 41. Please watch for crews and use caution when traveling through the project corridor.
  • Pedestrian traffic has been shifted to the newly constructed sidewalk on the west side of the roadway and a temporary pedestrian access pathway has been established on the east side.
  • Crews are working within business driveways and in the right-of-way along the northbound and southbound lanes of US 41. Please watch for crews, use caution and follow flagger directions when turning into businesses and shopping plazas. 
  • Motorists should expect temporary northbound and southbound lane closures on US 41 between Center Road and Gulf Coast Boulevard from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, September 20, to Saturday, September 26, to perform drainage pipe installation.

MANATEE COUNTY

I-75 at SR 70 Interchange (Exit 217): Construction project: This week, crews will work on widening I-75, the ramps, and SR 70. Crews are also working on the retaining walls, excavating interchange and SR 70 stormwater ponds and drainage, and working on the bridges over SR 70 and the Braden River.

  • Motorists should expect lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8:45 p.m. to 6 a.m. (northbound) or 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (southbound) through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 70 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 70 through the duration of the construction.
  • Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is mid-2021. The contractor is Sacyr Construction USA, LLC.

US 301 (State Road 43) from 2nd Avenue to 51st Avenue: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, installing guardrail and highway lighting, and improving the railroad crossing. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. and possible daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during construction. Superior Asphalt, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2020.

US 19 from US 41 to Terra Ceia Road: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage and constructing a sidewalk. Expect daytime single lane closures between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and nighttime/overnight lane closures between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. throughout construction. AJAX Paving Industries of Florida is the contractor. Expected completion is early 2021.

SR 684/Cortez Road from 123rd Street W to 119th Street W and from 123rd Street W to 86th Street W: Construction project: Crews are realigning the intersection of SR 684/Cortez Road and 119th Street W, resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, constructing a sidewalk and installing new highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on SR 684/Cortez Road and on 119th Street W (both north and southside). Daytime lane closures from east of 119th Street W to 86th Street W within the four-lane section of SR 684/Cortez Road are expected from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. over the next few weeks. AJAX Paving Industries of Florida, LLC is the contractor. Expected completion is late 2020.

  • Starting as early as September 14, phase 2 of the project will begin, creating a new traffic pattern and shifting construction to the north side of Cortez Road.  Thru traffic will then use the south side of Cortez Road.
  • Also expected as early as September 14, the two outbound lanes of Harbor Landing Drive will be closed.  Traffic into Harbor Landings will be detoured to the west on 127th Street, and the Cortez Road entrance lanes will then become the Harbor Landings exit.
  • Please watch for crews and use caution when traveling through the project corridor.

SR 64 at Rye Road Roundabout: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-lane roundabout, resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, and installing new highway lighting and landscaping. Crews will be working on the median and roundabout center island on drainage, curbs, and the truck apron around the center island.  IBT Construction is the contractor. Expected completion is scheduled for fall 2020.

  • Motorists should expect flagging operations in the new roundabout during nighttime hours from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Motorists should use caution, reduce speed, and pay close attention to traffic patterns.

SR 64 at Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road: Construction project: Construction of  a roundabout at SR 64 and Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road includes installing pedestrian activated crossings on all legs of the roundabout, adding lighting and landscaping, and installing a new traffic signal and crosswalks at SR 64 and 117th Street East.  The contractor is Watson Civil Construction, Inc. Expected completion is summer 2021, weather permitting.

  • Pope Road is closed to thru traffic, utilize the roundabout at SR 64 and White Eagle Boulevard/Rye Road.
  • The Eastbound travel lanes have been reduced to one lane and shifted to the north side of the median through the project.
  • Travel for both westbound and eastbound traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the project limits at the Greyhawk and Pope Road intersection.
  • Signal work will be taking place at 117th Street East, most of the work will be performed outside of the roadway at this time. Towards the end of the week, there are tentative lane closures scheduled on SR 64 for signal pole installations on the outside travel or turn lanes. 
  • All scheduled work will take place during daytime hours.

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

I-75 at SR 681 and Fruitville Road: Maintenance project: Crews are installing new components on the high mast light poles. Crews will be making site upgrades and pole replacements.  The contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC. Expected completion is fall 2020, weather permitting.

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota:  Construction project: Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.

  • Daytime lane closures are expected throughout the project limits.
  • Crews are expected to start grading for the roadway and driveways on the east side of 14th
  • Curb installation in the median area, 10th Street and 14th Street roundabouts to continue throughout the week. Please be cautious of construction vehicles, concrete trucks, pickup trucks, and crews working close to travel lanes and entering and leaving the travel lanes.
  • Truck aprons are scheduled to be installed at 10th Street and 14th Street roundabouts over the next 2 weeks. Work is scheduled during the daytime. Traffic going through the roundabouts will be impacted, with some of the movements being restricted.

SR 64 at Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road: Construction project: Construction of  a roundabout at SR 64 and Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road includes installing pedestrian activated crossings on all legs of the roundabout, adding lighting and landscaping, and installing a new traffic signal and crosswalks at SR 64 and 117th Street East.  The contractor is Watson Civil Construction, Inc. Expected completion is summer 2021, weather permitting.

  • Pope Road is closed to thru traffic, utilize the roundabout at SR 64 and White Eagle Boulevard/Rye Road.
  • The Eastbound travel lanes have been reduced to one lane and shifted to the north side of the median through the project.
  • Travel for both westbound and eastbound traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the project limits at the Greyhawk and Pope Road intersection.
  • Signal work will be taking place at 117th Street East, most of the work will be performed outside of the roadway at this time.
  • All scheduled work will take place during daytime hours.

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

I-75 at SR 681 and Fruitville Road: Maintenance project: Crews are installing new components on the high mast light poles. This week, crews will be preparing the site for the upgrades and start pole replacement.  The contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC. Expected completion is late September 2020, weather permitting.

US 301 at Fruitville Road and Lockwood Ridge Road at Fruitville Road: Maintenance project: motorists can expect periodic lane closures through Thursday, September 10, for roadway maintenance and inlet top repairs.  Contractor on the project is Evans Contracting.

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street:  Construction project: In observance of Labor Day, no construction activities are scheduled for Monday, September 7. Crews continue to work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.

  • Daytime lane closures are expected throughout the project limits.
  • Crews are expected to start grading for the roadway and driveways on the east side of 14th
  • Curb installation in the median area, 10th Street and 14th Street roundabouts to continue throughout the week. Please be cautious of construction vehicles, concrete trucks, pickup trucks, and crews working close to travel lanes and entering and leaving the travel lanes.
  • Truck aprons are scheduled to be installed at 10th Street and 14th Street roundabouts over the next 2 weeks. Work is scheduled during the daytime. Traffic going through the roundabouts will be impacted, with some of the movements being restricted.
  • Light pole foundation installation at the south west corner of 14th Street is expected. Sidewalk on the west side of US 41 will be impacted and may be closed temporarily. Please use designated sidewalk on the east side as an alternate route.
  • Irrigation installation in the medians is expected throughout the week.
  • Crews are also expected to grade for sidewalk and curb on the east side of US 41 on 10th
  • Drainage structure installation continues throughout the week.
  • Traffic signals on US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street have been removed, and motorists shall follow roundabout signage and driving conditions. Motorist entering the roundabout regardless of direction of travel, are advised to YEILD to traffic already within the roundabout.
  • Sidewalk on the west side and east side of US 41 between 10th Street and 14th Street are open for public access. Pedestrians are advised to use the designated sidewalks and crosswalks. Intermittent sidewalk closures are expected as crews work in the areas.
  • Installation of conduit, poles, signalization cabinets and streetlighting throughout the project corridor. Be cautious of equipment, bucket trucks and crews working next to the roadway.

No left turns permitted within the project limits, except at the boat ramp, which has an exclusive left turn lane for north bound traffic.

Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

Motorists are urged to use caution and watch for trucks and other construction equipment within the work zone.

Expect noise from excavators, vibration from rollers, back up alarms, trucks, and construction vehicles throughout the project corridor.

Work is expected during daytime hours, but some activities will require weekend and nighttime work.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a six-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED streetlights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is fall 2020. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.

 US 41 from First Street to Boulevard of the Arts, and on Fruitville Road from US 41 to Cocoanut Avenue: Construction project: Crews are constructing a roundabout at US 41 and Fruitville Road, a 12-foot multi-use trail on the west side of US 41 and a variable-width sidewalk on the east side of US 41; replacing existing underground drainage and utility structures, and installing new LED streetlights and landscaping. Other improvements include raised pedestrian refuge islands and a HAWK pedestrian signalization system. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Wright Construction, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2020.A new traffic pattern is in effect. Southbound traffic has been shifted onto the newly completed portion of the roadway on the west side of US 41. Northbound traffic on US 41 has been shifted to the newly completed east half of the roundabout. Two lanes of traffic on US 41 will be maintained in each direction during this phase of construction. Due to this traffic shift, the following maintenance of traffic will be in effect:

  • The northbound left turn movement from US 41 to westbound Boulevard of the Arts will not be allowed. The traffic in the left-hand northbound lane of US 41 will need to proceed to 10th Street and make a left turn at the 10th Street signal and turn left onto Van Wezel Way in order to access Boulevard of the Arts  and the amenities west of US 41. All other traffic movements at the US 41-Boulevard of the Arts intersection will continue to be allowed.
  • Fruitville Road will remain closed to westbound traffic between Cocoanut Avenue and US 41 during this phase of construction.
  • Access has been restored from northbound US 41 to Fifth Street, but there will be no access from northbound US 41 to Fourth Street and the alley located between Fourth and Fifth Streets.
  • Westbound Fruitville Road is closed to all traffic from Cocoanut Avenue to US 41 (in effect through summer 2020). Motorists desiring to reach US 41 from westbound Fruitville Road will need to turn right onto Lemon Avenue, follow Lemon Avenue to 10th Street, then follow 10th Street to reach US 41. Detour signage is in place.
  • No left turns are allowed from southbound US 41 to eastbound Fruitville Road (in effect through fall 2020).
  • Southbound motorists, if desiring to go east from US 41, will need to turn left at 10th Street, follow 10th Street to Lemon Avenue, turn right at Lemon Avenue and then follow Lemon Avenue to Fruitville Road. Detour signage is in place.
  • From Sunday, September 6, through Saturday, September 12, expect possible intermittent daytime and nighttime lane closures on US 41 between First Street and Boulevard of the Arts for roadway work. No lane closures will occur on Monday, September 7.

SR 776 between Stout Street and Stoner Road: Maintenance permit project: There will be intermittent lane closures on both the inside and outside lanes for the eastbound and westbound lanes starting September 7 through November 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the construction of a left turn lane, right turn lane and driveway connection.  Please use caution and expect possible delays.

SR 758 (Higel Avenue) from Little Pond Lane to Somerset Drive on Siesta Key: Construction project: This project improves drainage, resurfaces the roadway, and improves the sidewalk and shoulder on Higel Avenue from Little Pond Lane to Somerset Drive.  Crews are working on clearing the drainage easement and shoulder work.  Motorists should use caution and expect delays due to single lane traffic and flaggers. The contractor is Heavy Civil, Inc. Expected completion is fall 2020, weather permitting.

US 41 from Blackburn Point Road to Preymore Street: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, replacing the US 41 northbound bridge over North Creek, improving drainage, constructing sidewalks and installing new highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight northbound lane closures from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and nighttime/overnight southbound lane closures from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 a.m. Northbound traffic will shift to one of the southbound lanes, reducing traffic to one lane each direction. The traffic shift is expected to be in place for approximately eight months while crews reconstruct the northbound bridge over North Creek. Bergeron Land Development, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2021.

US 41 (Venice Bypass) from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard to a six-lane highway, replacing traffic signals, installing new pavement markings and signage, installing concrete curb and sidewalks, improving new drainage, and installing new highway lighting. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. The contractor is Bergeron Land Development, Inc. Expected completion is spring 2021. 

  • A new traffic pattern is now in effect for the southbound and northbound lanes of US 41. Please watch for crews and use caution when traveling through the project corridor.
  • Pedestrian traffic has been shifted to the newly constructed sidewalk on the west side of the roadway and a temporary pedestrian access pathway has been established on the east side.
  • Crews are working within business driveways and in the right-of-way along the northbound and southbound lanes of US 41. Please watch for crews, use caution and follow flagger directions when turning into businesses and shopping plazas. 
  • Motorists should expect temporary northbound and southbound lane closures on US 41 between Center Road and Gulf Coast Boulevard from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, September 6, to Saturday, September 12, to perform drainage pipe installation.

MANATEE COUNTY

I-75 at SR 70 Interchange (Exit 217): Construction project: crews will work on widening I-75, the ramps, and SR 70. Crews are also working on the retaining walls, excavating interchange and SR 70 stormwater ponds and drainage, and working on the bridges over SR 70 and the Braden River. Estimated completion is mid 2021. The contractor is Sacyr Construction USA, LLC.

  • Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and double lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 70 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 70 through the duration of the construction.
  • Drivers should exercise caution and be aware construction vehicles will be entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the project.
  • Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers work is underway.

US 41 at Hernando Desoto Bridge: Maintenance project: Inspection of bridge bearing assessments will begin at 8 p.m., Thursday, September 3, and end at 4 a.m., Friday, September 4.  Expect north bound and south bound intermittent lane closures.

US 301 (State Road 43) from 2nd Avenue to 51st Avenue: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, installing guardrail and highway lighting, and improving the railroad crossing. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. and possible daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during construction. Superior Asphalt, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2020.

US 301 at 121st Avenue: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing a driveway and right turn lane.

  • There will be intermittent lane closures to the outside turn lane on both eastbound or westbound lanes through September 11.  There will also be intermittent closures to the inside median turn lane on both the eastbound and westbound lanes.
  • Use caution and expect possible delays.

US 19 from US 41 to Terra Ceia Road: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage and constructing a sidewalk. Expect daytime single lane closures between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and nighttime/overnight lane closures between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. throughout construction. AJAX Paving Industries of Florida is the contractor. Expected completion is early 2021.

SR 684/Cortez Road from 123rd Street W to 119th Street W and from 123rd Street W to 86th Street W: Construction project: Crews are realigning the intersection of SR 684/Cortez Road and 119th Street W, resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, constructing a sidewalk and installing new highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on SR 684/Cortez Road and on 119th Street W (both north and southside). Daytime lane closures from east of 119th Street W to 86th Street W within the four-lane section of SR 684/Cortez Road are expected from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. over the next few weeks. AJAX Paving Industries of Florida, LLC is the contractor. Expected completion is late 2020.

SR 684 Cortez Road and SW 30th Street West, 2911 Cortez Road, and Cortez Road and  York Drive: Maintenance project: Starting Monday, August 31, through Thursday, September 10, motorists can expect periodic lane closures for roadway maintenance and inlet top repairs.  Contractor on the project is Evans Contracting.

SR 64 at Rye Road Roundabout: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-lane roundabout, resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, and installing new highway lighting and landscaping. Crews will be working on the median and roundabout center island on drainage, curbs, and the truck apron around the center island.  IBT Construction is the contractor. Expected completion is scheduled for fall 2020.

  • Motorists should expect night-time flagging operations from Sunday, August 30, through Friday, September 4, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Crews will continue to work during the Labor Day holiday on Friday, September 4, but there should be no impact to pedestrian or vehicle traffic, no lane closures or material deliveries.
  • Motorists must slow down to 35 mph as they enter the construction zone.
  • Motorists should use caution and pay close attention to the change in traffic patterns.

15th Street East at 23rd Avenue East: Maintenance project: Crews are repairing drainpipes underneath the roadway.  This week, crews will be working on the drainpipe repairs.  Motorists should expect 15th Street East closed at 23rd Avenue East and should follow the posted detour or use local routes.  Motorists are urged to use caution in the construction zone and expect delays.  The contractor is Evan’s Contracting. Expected completion is mid-August 2020, weather permitting.

I-75 at SR 70 Interchange (Exit 217): Construction project: crews will work on widening I-75, the ramps, and SR 70. Crews are also working on the retaining walls, excavating interchange and SR 70 stormwater ponds and drainage, and working on the bridges over SR 70 and the Braden River. Estimated completion is mid-2021. The contractor is Sacyr Construction USA, LLC.

  • Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and double lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 70 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 70 through the duration of the construction.
  • Drivers should exercise caution and be aware construction vehicles will be entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the project.
  • Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers work is underway.

US 301 (State Road 43) from 2nd Avenue to 51st Avenue: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, installing guardrail and highway lighting, and improving the railroad crossing. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. and possible daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during construction. Superior Asphalt, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2020.

US 301 at 121st Avenue: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing a driveway and right turn lane. The outside westbound lane will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through Friday, August 21, 2020.

  • Starting Monday, August 24, 2020, through September 11, 2020, there will be intermittent lane closures to the outside turn lane on both eastbound or westbound lanes.  There will also be intermittent closures to the inside median turn lane on
    both the eastbound and westbound lanes.
  • Use caution and expect possible delays.

US 19 from US 41 to Terra Ceia Road: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage and constructing a sidewalk. Expect daytime single lane closures between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and nighttime/overnight lane closures between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. throughout construction. AJAX Paving Industries of Florida is the contractor. Expected completion is early 2021.

SR 684/Cortez Road from 123rd Street W to 119th Street W and from 123rd Street W to 86th Street W: Construction project: Crews are realigning the intersection of SR 684/Cortez Road and 119th Street W, resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, constructing a sidewalk and installing new highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on SR 684/Cortez Road and on 119th Street W (both north and southside). Daytime lane closures from east of 119th Street W to 86th Street W within the four-lane section of SR 684/Cortez Road are expected from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. over the next few weeks. AJAX Paving Industries of Florida, LLC is the contractor. Expected completion is late 2020.

SR 64 at Rye Road: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-lane roundabout, resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, and installing new highway lighting and landscaping. Crews will be working on the median and roundabout center island on drainage, curbs, and the truck apron around the center island.  IBT Construction is the contractor. Expected completion is scheduled for fall 2020.

  • Motorists should use caution and pay close attention to the change in traffic patterns, reducing speed to 35 mph in the construction zone.
  • For the next two weeks, motorists can expect flaggers directing traffic through the roundabout.

SR 64 at Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road: Construction project: Construction of  a roundabout at SR 64 and Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road includes installing pedestrian activated crossings on all legs of the roundabout, adding lighting and landscaping, and installing a new traffic signal and crosswalks at SR 64 and 117th Street East.  The contractor is Watson Civil Construction, Inc. Expected completion is summer 2021, weather permitting.

  • August 24, 2020, to August 28, 2020, Pope Road is closed to thru traffic.  Utilize the roundabout at SR 64 and White Eagle Blvd/Rye Road.
  • The contractor will finish constructing the temporary roadway shift that will reduce roadway to one lane in each direction on SR 64.
  • The Eastbound travel lane will be shifted to the North side of the existing median This will allow for the construction of the Southern portion of the new roundabout. 
  • The final shift of traffic will take place tentatively on Friday, August 21, 2020.
  • At this time, all scheduled work will take place during daytime hours.

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

I-75 at SR 681, Bee Ridge Road, and Fruitville Road: Maintenance project: Crews are installing new components on the high mast light poles. This week crews will prepare the site for upgrades and begin pole replacement.  The contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC. Expected completion is fall 2020, weather permitting.

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota:  Construction project: Crews will continue to work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.

  • Daytime lane closures are expected throughout the project limits.
  • Crews are expected to start grading for roadway and driveways on the east side of 14th
  • Crews are preparing to install light pole foundation on the SW corner of 14th Sidewalk on the west side of US 41 is closed at this location during the installation process. Use sidewalk on the east side as a detour.
  • Curb installation in the median area, 10th Street and 14th Street roundabouts is expected throughout the week. Please be cautious of construction vehicles, concrete trucks, pickup trucks, and crews working close to travel lanes and entering and leaving the travel lanes.
  • Truck aprons are scheduled to be installed at 10th Street and 14th Street roundabouts over the next 2 weeks. Work is scheduled during the daytime. Traffic going through the roundabouts will be impacted, with some of the movements being restricted.
  • Light pole installation at the south west corner of 14th Street is expected. Sidewalk on the west side of US 41 will be impacted and may be closed temporarily. Please use designated sidewalk on the east side as an alternate route.
  • Irrigation installation in the medians is expected throughout the week.
  • Drainage structure and pipe installation in the median and US 41 at 11th Street is expected. South bound lane closure will be in effect during this work.
  • The driveway for Jefferson center will be graded in preparation for a new driveway. This work has been delayed due to inclement weather and utility conflict. Expect noise from construction equipment and trucks entering and leaving the travel lanes.
  • Crews are also expected to grade for sidewalk and curb on the east side of US 41 on 10th
  • Traffic signals on US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street have been removed, and motorists shall follow roundabout signage and driving conditions. Motorist entering the roundabout regardless of direction of travel, are advised to YEILD to traffic already within the roundabout.
  • Sidewalk on the west side and east side of US 41 between 10th Street and 14th Street are open for public access. Pedestrians are advised to use the designated sidewalks and crosswalks. Intermittent sidewalk closures are expected as crews work in the areas.
  • Installation of conduit, poles, signalization cabinets and streetlighting throughout the project corridor. Be cautious of equipment, bucket trucks and crews working next to the roadway.

No left turns permitted within the project limits, except at the boat ramp, which has an exclusive left turn lane for north bound traffic.

Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

Motorists are urged to use caution and watch for trucks and other construction equipment within the work zone.

Expect noise from excavators, vibration from rollers, back up alarms, trucks, and construction vehicles throughout the project corridor.

Work is expected during daytime hours, but some activities will require weekend and nighttime work.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a six-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED streetlights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is fall 2020. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.

US 41 (Venice Bypass) from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard to a six-lane highway; replacing traffic signals, installing new pavement markings and signage; installing concrete curb and sidewalks; improving new drainage, and installing new highway lighting. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. The contractor is Bergeron Land Development, Inc. Expected completion is spring 2021. 

  • A new traffic pattern may be in effect beginning Monday, August 24, 2020, for the southbound lanes of US 41. Weather permitting, crews will shift southbound traffic from the existing southbound lanes of US 41 from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard to the west onto the newly paved roadway.
  • Beginning as early as Friday, August 28, 2020, crews will shift northbound traffic toward the west onto the existing roadway where the southbound travel lanes previously had been, weather permitting.
  • Pedestrian traffic has been shifted to the newly constructed sidewalk on the west side of the roadway. Please use caution when walking in the project limits as some areas still have designated temporary pedestrian paths around active construction zones.
  • Crews are working within business driveways and in the right-of-way along the northbound and southbound lanes of US 41. Please watch for crews, use caution and follow flagger directions when turning into businesses and shopping plazas. 
  • Please use caution when traveling through the corridor as the median has narrowed.
  • Motorists should expect temporary northbound and southbound lane closures on US 41 between Center Road and Gulf Coast Boulevard from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, August 23, 2020, to Saturday, August 29, 2020, to perform drainage pipe installation.

US 41 from First Street to Boulevard of the Arts, and on Fruitville Road from US 41 to Cocoanut Avenue: Construction project: Crews are constructing a roundabout at US 41 and Fruitville Road, a 12-foot multi-use trail on the west side of US 41 and a variable-width sidewalk on the east side of US 41; replacing existing underground drainage and utility structures, and installing new LED streetlights and landscaping. Other improvements include raised pedestrian refuge islands and a HAWK pedestrian signalization system. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Wright Construction, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2020.

  • Northbound US 41 traffic has been shifted to the newly completed east half of the roundabout while leaving southbound traffic in its existing location. Two lanes of traffic on US 41 will be maintained in each direction during this phase of construction. Due to this traffic shift, the following maintenance of traffic will be in effect:
  • Access has been restored from northbound US 41 to Fifth Street, but there will be no access from northbound US 41 to Fourth Street and the alley located between Fourth and Fifth Streets.
  • Westbound Fruitville Road is closed to all traffic from Cocoanut Avenue to US 41 (in effect through summer 2020). Motorists desiring to reach US 41 from westbound Fruitville Road will need to turn right onto Lemon Avenue, follow Lemon Avenue to 10th Street, then follow 10th Street to reach US 41. Detour signage is in place.
  • No left turns are allowed from southbound US 41 to eastbound Fruitville Road (in effect through fall 2020).
  • Southbound motorists, if desiring to go east from US 41, will need to turn left at 10th Street, follow 10th Street to Lemon Avenue, turn right at Lemon Avenue and then follow Lemon Avenue to Fruitville Road. Detour signage is in place.
  • The slip lane from northbound US 41 to turn onto eastbound Fruitville Road has been reopened.
  • From Sunday, August 23, 2020, through Saturday, August 29, 2020, expect possible intermittent daytime and nighttime lane closures on US 41 between First Street and Boulevard of the Arts for roadway work.
  • Pending weather conditions, the next phase of construction may take place as early as Wednesday, August 27, 2020, and will shift southbound traffic on US 41 onto the newly completed portion of the roadway on the west side of US 41. Northbound traffic will remain in its current location. During this phase of construction the remainder of the west side of the roundabout along with the entrance to the Quay property will be constructed.
    • The northbound left turn movement from US 41 to westbound Boulevard of the Arts will not be allowed. The traffic in the left-hand northbound lane of US 41 will need to proceed to 10th Street and make a left turn at the 10th Street signal and turn left onto Van Wezel Way in order to access Boulevard of the Arts  and the amenities west of US 41. All other traffic movements at the US 41-Boulevard of the Arts intersection will continue to be allowed.
    • Fruitville Road will remain closed to westbound traffic between Cocoanut Avenue and US 41 during this phase of construction.

US 41 from Blackburn Point Road to Preymore Street: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, replacing the US 41 northbound bridge over North Creek, improving drainage, constructing sidewalks and installing new highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight northbound lane closures from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and nighttime/overnight southbound lane closures from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 a.m. Northbound traffic will shift to one of the southbound lanes, reducing traffic to one lane each direction. The traffic shift is expected to be in place for approximately eight months while crews reconstruct the northbound bridge over North Creek. Bergeron Land Development, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2021.

SR 758 (Higel Avenue) from Little Pond Lane to Somerset Drive: Construction project: This project improves drainage, resurfaces the roadway, and improves the sidewalk and shoulder on Higel Avenue from Little Pond Lane to Somerset Drive.  Crews are working on clearing the drainage easement and shoulder work.  The contractor is Heavy Civil, Inc. Expected completion is fall 2020, weather permitting
