Traffic Watch for Manatee and Sarasota Counties - Week of September 10

MANATEE COUNTY

I-75 at US 301 Interchange (Exit 224): Construction project: Project will widen the I-75 from SR 64 to the Manatee River, reconfigure the I-75/US 301 interchange from a partial cloverleaf interchange to a tight diamond configuration, construct new bridges will be constructed over the Manatee River for a northbound exit ramp and a southbound entrance ramp, and US 301 improvements. This week, crews will work on I-75 widening, drainage and utility work on US 301, and pile driving and beam installation for the construction of the new bridges over the Manatee River and Salt Marsh Bridge.

  • Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 northbound during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction; double closures on I-75 southbound during  the nighttime/overnight hours from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

I-275 at US 41 (Exit 2): Construction project: Project improvements include new traffic signal at I-275 southbound off-ramp and replacing traffic signal at I-275 northbound off-ramp, pedestrian accommodations, and resurfacing within project limits. This week, crews will work on light poles and signal components.

  • Motorists should expect single and double lane closures on US 41 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 m. to 6 a.m. bound through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect ramp closures at I-275 at US 41 during nighttime/overnight hours from 10 m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-275 and US 41 through the duration of the construction.
  • Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

US 41-BUS from 17th to Bayshore Road/ 26th Street, including the 23rd Street Roundabout, Palmetto: Construction: Work is underway so please use caution in the construction zone and be alert for construction equipment in the area. Construction crews will be working at the intersection of US 41 BUS and 23rd Street.

  • A lane shift has occurred so crews can begin working on the center Lanes have been reduced to one lane in each direction and will last for approximately two months. Right turns on 23rd Street have reopened.
  • Motorists can expect temporary daytime lane closures between 17th Street and 26th Street throughout the duration of the project.

US 301 from 25th Court East to 13th Avenue East: Construction project: Crews have begun a 7.6-mile improvements project consisting of milling and resurfacing the roadway, widening in areas, base work, curb and gutter, sidewalk, guardrail, drainage improvements, bridge expansion joints, signalization, lighting, and signing and pavement marking.

  • Work will continue at the intersection of Tallevast Road and US 301, which will include a pedestrian detour on the west side of US 301 and shoulder closures during the day to install the signal foundations from 7 m. to 6 p.m.
  • Work will begin at the intersection of Whitfield Avenue and US 301 on Monday, September 11, and will include pedestrian detours and shoulder closures during the day to install the signal foundations from 7 m. to 6 p.m.
  • Pedestrian access restrictions will be in place during intersection construction with alternate pedestrian routes clearly To maintain safety, pedestrians should follow the posted routes.
  • The project’s expected completion is late 2024.

US 301 and Moccasin Wallow Road Roundabout: Permit project: Crews have begun construction of a Manatee County roundabout at the intersection of US 301 and Moccasin Wallow Road. A lane shift is in place. Plan for additional travel time or consider an alternate route. Please use caution in the area. Completion is expected by late spring 2024.

SR 64 Anna Maria Draw Bridge over Sarasota Pass: Permit project: Rescheduled Manatee County waterline repair work for late September due to delay in materials. They estimate lane closures from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Expect delays and consider alternate routes for the duration of the project.

SR 64 Anna Maria Draw Bridge over Sarasota Pass: Bridge improvement: Crews are working on the bridge to perform normal updates and maintenance. From September 6 through September 15 work will require lane closures. Allow additional travel time and consider an alternate route such as Cortez Bridge.

  • On Monday, September 11, through Friday, September 15, crews will be completing mechanical rehabilitation, coatings repairs and concrete repairs on the bridge and require overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., both east and westbound.
  • Between 3 m. and 5 a.m., there will be complete closures of the bridge for 30- minute intervals to complete work on the movable span.

SR 64 between 17th Street East to 27th Street East: Permit project: Through October FPL will be installing 35 new power poles. Motorists should anticipate intermittent eastbound outside lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Please use caution in the area and be alert for lane shifts. Motorists may wish to use alternate routes or allow extra travel time.

SR 64 from 43rd Street West to 15th Street East and from 10th Street West to 10th Street East: Construction project: Crews have begun the 1.7-mile resurfacing project through the City of Bradenton. Motorists can expect overnight lane closures from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and temporary lane closures when work requires. Expect noise and light from construction equipment. Motorists should add additional travel time for slow-moving traffic or consider an alternate route. Completion is slated for spring 2024.

 

 

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

I-75 at SR 72/Clark Road (Exit 205): Construction project: Project improvements include reconstructing the existing interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), adding auxiliary lane on I-75 northbound from SR 72 to Bee Ridge Road, widen I- 75 southbound from Proctor Road to SR 72, and improvements on Clark Road. This week, crews will work on the ramps, retaining walls, and paving the I-75 shoulders.

  • Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 m. to 5:30 a.m. bound through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect double lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 10 m. to 4:30 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 72 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 72 through the duration of the construction.
  • Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

US 41 South between South Palm Avenue and Hudson Avenue: Permit project: Through the end of September 2023, crews are finalizing all work at the Marie Selby Gardens. Motorists should expect temporary inside and outside lane closures as well as overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Please use particular caution in the area and watch for pedestrians, bicyclists and workers.

US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point: Construction: Construction on the next phase along a 1.4-mile area of US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point Road has begun. Work consists of implementing safety improvements along the corridor, including resurfacing, lighting and signalization, median improvements, improved drainage, shoulder reconstruction, improved sidewalks, improved bicycle lanes, and curb and gutter improvements.

  • Crews will remain focused on sidewalk placement, drainage, earthwork and gravity walls.
  • Most work should be in the FDOT right of way, off the main roadway.

US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue Roundabout: Landscaping project: A separate contract is supporting the landscaping of the area and will take approximately four months. Lane closures will be during overnight hours, and noise from landscaping vehicles and lighting are to be expected.

US 41 at Wellen Park Village Roundabouts: Permit project: A lane shift is in place for approximately six (6) months. Consider alternate routes or add additional travel time during peak hours.

  • Crews continue to focus on drainage work and curb and gutters.

SR 777 River Road from I-75 to US 41: Construction project: Motorists can expect pond excavation near Venice Avenue and just north of Rambler’s Rest RV Park on the northbound roadway. Embankment activities continue on the southbound roadway from US 41 to Stoney Creek Boulevard. Drainage structure and pipe installation will also continue throughout the project. Signal and lighting work is also on-going throughout the project. Paving during daytime hours will take place between Stoneycreek Boulevard and Center Road on Thursday and Friday, 9/14 and 9/15. This will be out of traffic and will not require any lane or shoulder closures. Trucks will be crossing the road at various locations using intermittent flagging operations.

SR 681 from I-75 to US 41: Construction project: Crews are completing the placement of silt fence along the 2.8 stretch of roadway in preparation for construction. The resurfacing project will also improve drainage, provide a cross-slope correction for leveling and comfort, new guardrail, updated signing and marking, install intelligent transportation equipment and signalization.

  • Paving on the project has started so motorists should expect temporary lane closures for the duration of the project.
  • During resurfacing of the highway, on- and off-ramps will require limited overnight detours.
  • Noise from construction equipment should be anticipated for the duration.

SR 758 Midnight Pass from Stickney Point to Shadow Lawn Way: Construction project: Work is underway for a 1.6-mile roadway and safety improvement project on Midnight Pass Road (SR 758) from Stickney Point Road (SR 72) to Shadow Lawn Way in Sarasota County. Work will consist of milling and resurfacing, shoulder/turn lane widening, sidewalk replacement, drainage improvements, signing and pavement markings, and signal and lighting improvements. Project completion is expected by fall 2023.

  • Overnight milling and resurfacing will continue.
  • Motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists should use caution due to uneven pavement.
  • Work will start at approximately 8 m. depending on traffic levels and go until approximately 5 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flagging operations. Allow extra time.
  • Expect noise/ light from construction equipment throughout the duration.
  • Temporary lane closures or flagging operations could be necessary throughout the duration of the project.

SR 72 Clark Road at Stickney Point from west of US 41 to Glencoe Avenue: Permit project: Crews are installing traffic signals. No lane closures are currently expected.

Motorists should expect temporary inside and outside lane closures as well as overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Please use particular caution in the area and watch for pedestrians, bicyclists and workers.

US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point: Construction: Construction on the next phase along a 1.4-mile area of US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point Road has begun. Work consists of implementing safety improvements along the corridor, including resurfacing, lighting and signalization, median improvements, improved drainage, shoulder reconstruction, improved sidewalks, improved bicycle lanes, and curb and gutter improvements.

  • Over the next two weeks, crews will remain focused on drainage and earthwork. Motorists can expect intermittent lane closures. Most work should be in the FDOT right of way, off the main roadway.

US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue Roundabout: Landscaping project: A separate contract is supporting the landscaping of the area and will take approximately four months. Lane closures will be during overnight hours, and noise from landscaping vehicles and lighting are to be expected.

US 41 at Wellen Park Village Roundabouts: Permit project: A lane shift is in place for approximately six (6) months. Consider alternate routes or add additional travel time during peak hours.

SR 777 River Road from I-75 to US 41: Construction project: Motorists can expect pond excavation near Venice Avenue and just north of Rambler’s Rest RV Park on the northbound roadway and near West Villages Parkway on the southbound roadway. Embankment activities continue on the southbound roadway from US 41 to Stoney Creek Boulevard and curb and gutter is being installed at various areas on southbound roadway. Drainage structure and pipe installation will also continue throughout the project. Signal and lighting work is also on-going throughout the project. Trucks will be crossing the road at various locations using intermittent flagging operations.

SR 758 Midnight Pass from Stickney Point to Shadow Lawn Way: Construction project: Work is underway for a 1.6-mile roadway and safety improvement project on Midnight Pass Road (SR 758) from Stickney Point Road (SR 72)to Shadow Lawn Way in Sarasota County. Work will consist of milling and resurfacing, shoulder/turn lane widening, sidewalk replacement, drainage improvements, signing and pavement markings, and signal and lighting improvements. Project completion is expected by fall 2023.

  • Overnight milling and resurfacing will continue.
  • Motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists should use caution due to uneven pavement.
  • Work will start at approximately 8 m. depending on traffic levels and go until approximately 5 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flagging operations. Allow extra time.
  • Expect noise/ light from construction equipment throughout the duration.
  • Temporary lane closures or flagging operations could be necessary throughout the duration of the project.

SR 681 from I-75 to US 41: Construction project: Crews are completing the placement of silt fence along the 2.8 stretch of roadway in preparation for construction. The resurfacing project will also improve drainage, provide a cross-slope correction for leveling and comfort, new guardrail, updated signing and marking, install intelligent transportation equipment and signalization.

  • Paving on the project has started so motorists should expect temporary lane closures for the         duration of the project.
  • During resurfacing of the highway, on- and off-ramps will require limited overnight detours.

US 41 Northbound at the Green Bridge: Bridge maintenance: Temporary lane closures have been rescheduled for Friday, August 4, starting at 8 a.m.  Crews will be  performing bridge maintenance. Motorists should anticipate slow moving traffic and add additional travel time or consider an alternate route.

US 41 at Magellan Drive Both North and Southbound: Maintenance:  On Monday, August 6, through Wednesday, August 9, motorists can expect intermittent nighttime lane closures from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Crews will be milling and resurfacing in front of Sara Bay Marina in Manatee County.

US 301 from 60th Avenue East to Erie Road / Old Tampa Road: Construction:  Motorists can expect temporary daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for concrete work.  Motorists can expect construction vehicles in and out of the right-of-way limits. The scheduled completion is in August of 2023.

US 19 Northbound On Ramp (ramp at US 41 southbound): Maintenance:  On Sunday, August 6, and Monday, August 7, motorists can expect nighttime ramp closure from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Crews will be milling and resurfacing the northbound ramp. Vehicles will be able to get onto US 19 from the northbound ramp at the US 19 and 41 northbound split.

SR 64 between 17th Street East to 27th Street East: Permit project: Through October FPL will be installing 35 new power poles.  Motorists should anticipate intermittent eastbound outside lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Please use caution in the area and be alert for lane shifts.   • Paving is expected to start July 20, 2023.
  • Motorists can expect temporary daytime lane closures from north of 17th Street to just past 23rd Street throughout the duration of the project.

US 301 from 60th Avenue East to Erie Road / Old Tampa Road: Construction:  Motorists can expect nighttime lane closures for paving operations throughout the project limits from 9 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. There will also be daytime work installing post-mounted signs. Motorists can expect construction vehicles in and out of the right-of-way limits. The scheduled completion is in August of 2023.

  • Starting Monday, July 17, through Friday, July 21, there will be overnight paving on US 301 from 9 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Expect temporary delays and allow additional travel time. 

SR 64 between 17th Street East to 27th Street East: Permit project: Starting Monday, July 17, through October, FPL will be installing 35 new power poles.  Motorists should anticipate intermittent eastbound outside lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Please use caution in the area and be alert for possible lane shifts. Motorists may wish to use alternate routes or allow extra travel time.

SR 684 Cortez Road from US 41/14th Street to 30th Avenue West: Permit project: Manatee County will be removing and installing new landscaping within the median. There will be intermittent north and south bound inside lane closures through the end of July from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please watch for lane shifts and allow extra travel time.

I-75 at SR 72/Clark Road (Exit 205): Construction project: Project improvements include reconstructing the existing interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), adding auxiliary lane on I-75 northbound from SR 72 to Bee Ridge Road, widen I-75 southbound from Proctor Road to SR 72, and improvements on Clark Road. This week, crews will work on the ramps, retaining walls, and paving the I-75 shoulders.

Motorists should expect temporary inside and outside lane closures as well as overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Please use particular caution in the area and watch for pedestrians, bicyclists and workers.

US 41 from Beneva Road to Caribbean Drive: Construction project:  Construction on US 41 from Beneva Road to Caribbean Drive is in the final stages of completion.  Temporary lane closures may be needed.

US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point: Construction: Construction on the next phase along a 1.4-mile area of US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point Road has begun. Work consists of implementing safety improvements along the corridor, including resurfacing, lighting and signalization, median improvements, improved drainage, shoulder reconstruction, improved sidewalks, improved bicycle lanes, and curb and gutter improvements.

US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue Roundabout: Landscaping project: Now that the construction project is complete, a separate contract will begin to provide landscaping.  This will take approximately four months. Most lane closures will be during overnight hours, and noise from landscaping vehicles and lighting are to be expected.

US 41 at Wellen Park Village Roundabouts: Permit projectA lane shift is in place for approximately six (6) months. Consider alternate routes or add additional travel time during peak hours.

  • Upcoming construction of right turn lanes will require lane closures. Expect slow moving traffic or consider alternate routes.

SR 777 River Road from I-75 to US 41: Construction project: Motorists can expect pond excavation near Venice Avenue and just north of Rambler’s Rest RV Park on the northbound roadway and near West Villages Parkway on the southbound roadway. Embankment activities continue on the southbound roadway from US 41 to Stoney Creek Boulevard and curb and gutter is being installed at various areas on southbound roadway. Drainage and curb and gutter installation will also continue throughout the project. Trucks will be crossing the road at various locations using intermittent flagging operations. Traffic has been shifted from Stoney Creek Boulevard to just south of I-75. Please pay attention to the signs. Crews will be removing old roadway from Stoney Creek Boulevard to just south of 7-11.

SR 758 Midnight Pass from Stickney Point to Shadow Lawn Way: Construction project: Work is underway for a 1.6-mile roadway and safety improvement project on Midnight Pass Road (SR 758) from Stickney Point Road (SR 72)to Shadow Lawn Way in Sarasota County. Work will consist of milling and resurfacing, shoulder/turn lane widening, sidewalk replacement, drainage improvements, signing and pavement markings, and signal and lighting improvements. Project completion is expected by fall 2023.

  • Overnight milling and resurfacing will continue.
  • Motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists should use caution due to uneven pavement.
  • Work will start at approximately 8 p.m. depending on traffic levels and go until approximately 5 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flagging operations.  Allow extra time.
  • Expect noise/ light from construction equipment throughout the duration.
  • Temporary lane closures or flagging operations could be necessary throughout the duration of the project.

SR 681 from I-75 to US 41: Construction project: Crews are completing the placement of silt fence along the 2.8 stretch of roadway in preparation for construction.  The resurfacing project will also improve drainage, provide a cross-slope correction for leveling and comfort, new guardrail, updated signing and marking, install intelligent transportation equipment and signalization.

  • During resurfacing of the highway, on- and off-ramps will require limited overnight detours.
  • Paving is expected to begin in mid-July.
  • Motorists should expect temporary lane closures for the duration of the project.
  • Noise from construction equipment should be anticipated for the duration.

Motorists should expect lane closures (flagging operation) and shoulder closures.  These closures will consist of intermittent taper shifts affecting east and westbound traffic.

US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue Roundabout: Construction project: Crews will work within the right-of-way, medians, driveways and throughout the project limits. Please use caution and watch for construction vehicles, dump trucks, semi-trucks and heavy equipment entering or exiting the work zone.

Activities Include:

Restoration of select existing post mounted signs will take place. No impacts to traffic will occur.

Construction activities will take place weekdays and weekends, daytime and occasionally during nighttime hours. Expect noise from grinding asphalt, hammer drills, noise and vibration from construction equipment, backup alarms, vacuum trucks, pumps, and lighting.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of replacing the existing signalized intersection on US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue with a roundabout, installation of Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) system, raised pedestrian refuge islands, replacement of underground drainage structures, utilities, fiber optic, new LED streetlights, reconfiguration of stormwater retention ponds, sidewalks, and pedestrian walkways. Expected completion is spring 2023.

LANDSCAPING: Managed as a separate contract, the Gulfstream Roundabout Landscaping will begin in July when roadway construction and final acceptance are complete.

US 41 at Wellen Park Village Roundabouts: Permit projectA traffic shift is in place so please pay close attention through the construction zones. A lane shift is in place for approximately six (6) months. Consider alternate routes or add additional travel time during peak hours. Upcoming construction of right turn lanes will require lane closures. Expect slow moving traffic or consider alternate routes.

SR 777 River Road from I-75 to US 41: Construction project: Motorists can expect pond excavation near Venice Avenue and just north of Rambler’s Rest RV Park on the northbound roadway and near West Villages Parkway on the southbound roadway. Embankment activities continue on the southbound roadway from US 41 to Stoney Creek Boulevard and curb and gutter is being installed at various areas on southbound roadway. Trucks will be crossing the road at various locations using intermittent flagging operations.  Drainage installation will also continue throughout the project, electrical conduit is being installed in various locations and signal posts and arms are being constructed.  Traffic is schedule to be shifted slightly from Stoney Creek Boulevard to just south of I-75 overnight Thursday, June 29, 2023. Please pay attention to the signs. Removal of old roadway will follow traffic shift.

SR 758 Midnight Pass from Stickney Point to Shadow Lawn Way: Construction project: Work is underway for a 1.6-mile roadway and safety improvement project on Midnight Pass Road (SR 758) from Stickney Point Road (SR 72)to Shadow Lawn Way in Sarasota County. Work will consist of milling and resurfacing, shoulder/turn lane widening, sidewalk replacement, drainage improvements, signing and pavement markings, and signal and lighting improvements. Project completion is expected by fall 2023.

  • Overnight milling and resurfacing will continue on Midnight Pass Road from Shadow Lawn Way to Stickney Point.
  • Work will start at approximately 8 p.m. depending on traffic levels and go until approximately 5 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flagging operations.  Allow extra time.
  • Expect noise/ light from construction equipment throughout the duration.
  • Temporary lane closures or flagging operations could be necessary throughout the duration of the project.

SR 681 from I-75 to US 41: Construction project: Crews are completing the placement of silt fence along the 2.8 stretch of roadway in preparation for construction.  The resurfacing project will also improve drainage, provide a cross-slope correction for leveling and comfort, new guardrail, updated signing and marking, install intelligent transportation equipment and signalization.

  • During resurfacing of the highway, on- and off-ramps will require limited overnight detours.
  • Paving is expected to begin in mid-July.
  • Motorists should expect temporary lane closures for the duration of the project.
  • Noise from construction equipment should be anticipated for the duration.

SR 72 Clark Road at Proctor Road and Dove Avenue Roundabout: Construction project: Traffic is now in the roundabout configuration and the speed through the roundabout has been reduced to 25 MPH.

This week, crews will work on resurfacing and restriping I-75, US 301 work, and pile driving for the construction of the new southbound on-ramp bridge over the Manatee River and Salt Marsh Bridge.

  • Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 northbound during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction; double closures on I-75 southbound during the nighttime/overnight hours from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

US 41 from 17th to Bayshore Road/ 26th Street, including the 23rd Street Roundabout, Palmetto: Construction:  Work is underway, so please use caution in the construction zone and be alert for construction equipment in the area. Construction crews will be working at the intersection of US 41 BUS and 23rd Street. Crews are currently working on drainage and earthwork.

  • Motorists can expect temporary daytime lane closures from north of 17th Street to just past 23rd Street throughout the duration of the project.
  • Lanes have shifted with areas of uneven payment. Please be cautious in the construction zone and reduce speed. 

US 301 from 60th Avenue East to Erie Road / Old Tampa Road: Construction:  Motorists can expect nighttime lane closures for paving operations throughout the project limits from 9 PM to 6:30 AM. There will be limited daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to pour concrete curbs, driveways, and sidewalks. There will also be daytime work on the signals that should not impact motorists. Motorists can expect construction vehicles in and out of the right-of-way limits. The scheduled completion is in August of 2023.

  • Motorists can expect overnight paving on US 301 from 9 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Expect temporary delays and allow additional travel time.

  • Through June 29, motorists can expect a lane closure on Erie Road, followed by one lane on Old Tampa Road.  This is necessary for removing and replacing concrete traffic separators.

  • The inside turn lane on US 301 will be closed for the duration. Semi tractor trailers making the right turn on Old Tampa Road may need to find an alternate route. Lane closures are expected to last four days each.

SR 684 Cortez Road from US 41/14th Street to 30th Avenue West: Permit project: Manatee County will be removing and installing new landscaping within the median. There will be intermittent north and south bound inside lane closures through the end of July from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please watch for lane shifts and allow extra travel time.

SR 70 at The Center for Urgent Care: Maintenance: Starting Monday, June 26, through Thursday, June 29, night lane closures within the hours of 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., crews will be milling and resurfacing the driveway into the Center for Urgent Care 10940 State Road 70 East. Lane closure will be in the outside eastbound lane.

 

 

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

I-75 at SR 72/Clark Road (Exit 205): Construction project: Project improvements include reconstructing the existing interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), adding auxiliary lane on I-75 northbound from SR 72 to Bee Ridge Road, widen I-75 southbound from Proctor Road to SR 72, and improvements on Clark Road. This week, crews will work on the ramps, retaining walls, and paving the I-75 shoulders.

  • Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. bound through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect double lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 72 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

  • On Friday, June 23, at 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews will CLOSE the Jacaranda on-ramp to I-75 northbound;
  • On Saturday, June 24, at 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews will CLOSE the Jacaranda on-ramp to I-75 northbound;
  • Drivers should follow posted detour routes; or use alternative routes.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is late June 23, 2023.

US 41 South between South Palm Avenue and Hudson Avenue: Permit project:  Through the end of September 2023, crews will be working at the Marie Selby Gardens extending existing turn lanes, adding right turn lanes, making drainage improvements, adding signalization improvements, landscaping improvements, street lighting improvements and signing and pavement improvements. Motorists should expect temporary inside and outside lane closures as well as overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Please use particular caution in the area and watch for pedestrians, bicyclists and workers.

US 41 from Beneva Road to Caribbean Drive: Construction project:  Construction on US 41 from Beneva Road to Caribbean Drive is making median modifications, widening paved shoulders, adding turn lanes to accommodate six-foot wide bicycle lanes and adding sidewalks along the 1.37-mile section of road. Modifications will be made to existing traffic signals and crosswalks to support bicycle lanes and new sidewalks.

  • Crews are in the final stages so temporary lane closures may be needed.
  • Paving is being completed on US 41 so use caution and expect possible slow traffic.

US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point: Construction: Construction on the next phase along a 1.4-mile area of US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point Road has begun. Work consists of implementing safety improvements along the corridor, including resurfacing, lighting and signalization, median improvements, improved drainage, shoulder reconstruction, improved sidewalks, improved bicycle lanes, and curb and gutter improvements. As utility work is completed construction work will increase.

    • Replacing various pieces of broken sidewalk through the project. This work will require rolling closures when concrete material is delivered onsite.
    • Installing sod throughout the project.
    • Installing ADA detectable surface curb ramp maps throughout the project.
    • Cleanup of the project site, mowing and equipment removal.

Lane Closures/Detours/Crossings:

    • Short term lane closures may be in effect as crews finalize project items. Motorists should exercise caution when traveling through the area.
    • The sidewalk at the northwest corner of US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue is closed. Pedestrian paths are available via US 41 Multi-Use Recreational Trail (MURT) along Ritz Carlton Drive.
    • Marina Jacks north parking lot entrance/exit on Gulfstream Avenue is closed to vehicular traffic. Motorists may access the parking lot via Bayfront Drive at Main Street/Marina Plaza. No through traffic allowed through this area.

Detours and lane closures will be in place during various phases of the project. During construction, the speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph on US 41 and Gulfstream Avenue.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of replacing the existing signalized intersection on US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue with a roundabout, installation of Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) system, raised pedestrian refuge islands, replacement of underground drainage structures, utilities, fiber optic, new LED streetlights, reconfiguration of stormwater retention ponds, sidewalks, and pedestrian walkways. Expected completion is spring 2023.

US 41 at Wellen Park Village Roundabout: Permit projectA traffic shift is in place so please pay close attention through the construction zone. The lane shift will be in place for approximately six (6) months. Consider alternate routes or add additional travel time during peak hours. Currently utility work is underway, then more visible construction work will begin.

SR 777 River Road from I-75 to US 41: Construction project: Motorists can expect pond excavation near Venice Avenue on the northbound roadway and near West Villages Parkway on the southbound roadway. Embankment activities continue on the southbound roadway from US 41 to Stoney Creek Boulevard and curb and gutter is being installed at various areas on southbound roadway. Trucks will be crossing the road at various locations using intermittent flagging operations.  Drainage installation will also continue throughout the project, electrical conduit is being installed in various locations and signal posts and arms are being constructed.  Traffic may be shifted slightly from Stoney Creek Boulevard to just south of I-75. Please pay attention to the signs.

SR 758 Midnight Pass from Stickney Point to Shadow Lawn Way: Construction project: Work is underway for a 1.6-mile roadway and safety improvement project on Midnight Pass Road (SR 758) from Stickney Point Road (SR 72)to Shadow Lawn Way in Sarasota County. Work will consist of milling and resurfacing, shoulder/turn lane widening, sidewalk replacement, drainage improvements, signing and pavement markings, and signal and lighting improvements.

  • Overnight milling and resurfacing will continue on Midnight Pass Road from Shadow Lawn Way to Stickney Point.
  • Work will start at approximately 8 p.m. depending on traffic levels and go until approximately 5 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flagging operations.  Allow extra time.
  • Expect noise/ light from construction equipment throughout the duration.
  • Temporary lane closures or flagging operations could be necessary throughout the duration of the project.

SR 681 from I-75 to US 41: Construction project: Crews have begun placing silt fence along the 2.8 stretch of roadway in preparation for construction.  The resurfacing project will also improve drainage, provide a cross-slope correction for leveling and comfort, new guardrail, updated signing and marking, install intelligent transportation equipment and signalization.

  • During resurfacing of the highway, on- and off-ramps will require limited overnight detours.
  • Motorists should expect temporary lane closures for the duration of the project.
  • Noise from construction equipment should be anticipated for the duration.

SR 72 Clark Road at Proctor Road and Dove Avenue Roundabout: Construction project: Traffic is now in the roundabout configuration and the speed through the roundabout has been reduced to 25 MPH.

  • Motorists can expect temporary lane closures or flagging operations while crews perform final work.

SR 72 Clark Road at Stickney Point from west of US 41 to Glencoe Avenue: Permit project: Crews are installing traffic signals. No lane closures are expected.

Construction crews will be working at the intersection of US 41 BUS and 23rd Street. Crews are currently working on drainage and earthwork.

  • Motorists can expect temporary daytime lane closures from north of 17th Street to just past 23rd Street throughout the duration of the project.
  • Lanes have shifted with areas of uneven payment. Please be cautious in the construction zone and reduce speed.

US 41 and south 69th Avenue: Permit project: Crews will be milling and paving 100’ of the northbound lane following utility work   There will be intermittent northbound, middle, and outside lane closures on Friday, June 9, from 9 p.m.  to 1 a.m. Please use caution and expect delays.

US 301 from 60th Avenue East to Erie Road / Old Tampa Road: Construction:  Motorists can expect nighttime lane closures for paving operations throughout the project limits from 9 PM to 6:30 AM. There will also be daytime work on the signals that should not impact motorists. Motorists can expect construction vehicles in and out of the right-of-way limits. The scheduled completion is in August of 2023.

  • Starting Sunday, June 11, through Thursday, June 15, there will be overnight paving on US 301 from 9 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Expect temporary delays and allow additional travel time.

SR 70 Westbound at Verna Bethany Road to Lorraine Road: Starting Monday, June 12, through Thursday, June 15, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews will be shoulder blading, replacing signs, repairing guardrail delineators, removing overgrown vegetation from under the guardrail, trimming trees, and replacing RPM’s. Motorists should expect lane closures (flagging operation) and shoulder closures.

SR 684 Cortez Road from US 41/14th Street to 30th Avenue West: Permit project: Manatee County will be removing and installing new landscaping within the median. There will be intermittent north and south bound inside lane closures through the end of July from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please watch for lane shifts and allow extra travel time.

 

 

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

I-75 at SR 72/Clark Road (Exit 205): Construction project: Project improvements include reconstructing the existing interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), adding auxiliary lane on I-75 northbound from SR 72 to Bee Ridge Road, widen I-75 southbound from Proctor Road to SR 72, and improvements on Clark Road. This week, crews will work on the ramps, retaining walls, and paving the I-75 shoulders.

  • Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. bound through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect double lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 72 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

US 41 South between South Palm Avenue and Hudson Avenue: Permit project:  Through the end of September 2023, crews will be working at the Marie Selby Gardens extending existing turn lanes, adding right turn lanes, making drainage improvements, adding signalization improvements, landscaping improvements, street lighting improvements and signing and pavement improvements. Motorists should expect temporary inside and outside lane closures as well as overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Please use particular caution in the area and watch for pedestrians, bicyclists and workers.

US 41 from Beneva Road to Caribbean Drive: Construction project:  Construction on US 41 from Beneva Road to Caribbean Drive is making median modifications, widening paved shoulders, adding turn lanes to accommodate six-foot wide bicycle lanes and adding sidewalks along the 1.37-mile section of road. Modifications will be made to existing traffic signals and crosswalks to support bicycle lanes and new sidewalks. Crews are in the final stages so temporary lane closures may be needed.

US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point: Construction: Construction on the next phase along a 1.4-mile area of US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point Road has begun. Work consists of implementing safety improvements along the corridor, including resurfacing, lighting and signalization, median improvements, improved drainage, shoulder reconstruction, improved sidewalks, improved bicycle lanes, and curb and gutter improvements. As utility work is completed construction work with increase.

US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue Roundabout: Construction project: Crews will work within the right-of-way, medians, driveways and throughout the project limits. Please use caution and watch for construction vehicles, dump trucks, semi-trucks and heavy equipment entering or exiting the work zone.

Activities Include:

    • Mount permanent signs throughout the project.
    • Installing permanent thermoplastic pavement markings during night work operations. Moving lane closures will occur during nighttime hours.
    • Replacing various pieces of broken sidewalk through the project. This work will require rolling closures when concrete material is delivered onsite.
    • Installing sod throughout the project.
    • Installing ADA detectable surface curb ramp maps throughout the project.

Detours/Crossings:

    • The sidewalk at the northwest corner of US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue is closed. Pedestrian paths are available via US 41 Multi-Use Recreational Trail (MURT) along Ritz Carlton Drive.
    • Marina Jacks north parking lot entrance/exit on Gulfstream Avenue is closed to vehicular traffic. Motorists may access the parking lot via Bayfront Drive at Main Street/Marina Plaza. No through traffic is allowed in this area.

Detours and lane closures will be in place during various phases of the project. During construction, the speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph on US 41 and Gulfstream Avenue.

SR 62 just west of the county line: Permit project: Crews will be performing soil boring tests starting June 7-8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be intermittent temporary lane closures both east and westbound. Please use caution and expect possible delays.

    • Install sod throughout the project.
    • Install ADA detectable warning mats on curb ramps throughout the project.
    • Installing a concrete traffic separator in the outside northbound lane on entry to the Fruitville roundabout. An outside lane closure will occur for this work.

Detours/Crossings:

US 41 at Wellen Park Village Roundabout: Permit projectA traffic shift is in place so please pay close attention through the construction zone. The lane shift will be in place for approximately six (6) months. Consider alternate routes or add additional travel time during peak hours.

SR 777 River Road from I-75 to US 41: Construction project: Motorists can expect pond excavation near Venice Avenue on the northbound roadway and near West Villages Parkway on the southbound roadway. Embankment activities continue on the southbound roadway from US 41 to Stoney Creek Boulevard and curb and gutter is being installed at various areas on southbound roadway. Trucks will be crossing the road at various locations using intermittent flagging operations.  Drainage installation will also continue between Observation Boulevard and US 41.  Traffic may be shifted slightly from Stoney Creek Boulevard to just south of I-75. Please pay attention to the signs.

SR 758 Midnight Pass from Stickney Point to Shadow Lawn Way: Construction project: Crews have begun a 1.6-mile roadway and safety improvement project on Midnight Pass Road (SR 758) from Stickney Point Road (SR 72)to Shadow Lawn Way in Sarasota County. Work will consist of milling and resurfacing, shoulder/turn lane widening, sidewalk replacement, drainage improvements, signing and pavement markings, and signal and lighting improvements.

  • Overnight milling and resurfacing is underway on Midnight Pass Road from Shadow Lawn Way to Stickney Point.
  • Work will start at approximately 8 p.m. depending on traffic levels and go until approximately 5 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flagging operations.  Allow extra time.
  • Expect noise/ light from construction equipment throughout the duration.
  • Temporary lane closures or flagging operations could be necessary throughout the duration of the project.

SR 681 from I-75 to US 41: Construction project: Starting in late May, crews will begin resurfacing the 2.8 stretch of limited access roadway.  They will also improve drainage, provide a cross-slope correction for leveling and comfort, new guardrail, updated signing and marking, install intelligent transportation equipment and signalization.

  • During resurfacing of the highway, on- and off-ramps will require limited overnight detours.
  • Motorists should expect temporary lane closures for the duration of the project.
  • Noise from construction equipment should be anticipated for the duration.

SR 72 Clark Road at Proctor Road and Dove Avenue Roundabout: Construction project: Traffic is now in the roundabout configuration and the speed through the roundabout has been reduced to 25 MPH.

Construction crews will be working at the intersection of US 41 BUS and 23rd Street. Crews are currently working on drainage and earthwork.

  • Motorists can expect temporary daytime lane closures from north of 17th Street to just past 23rd Street throughout the duration of the project.
  • Be cautious in the construction zone and reduce speed.  Lanes have shifted with areas of uneven payment.

US 301 from 60th Avenue East to Erie Road / Old Tampa Road: Construction:  Motorists can expect nighttime lane closures for paving operations throughout the project limits from 9 PM to 6:30 AM. There will be limited daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to pour concrete curbs, driveways, and sidewalks. Sidewalks are also being closed for the same operations with placed Pedestrian Detours. Motorists can expect construction vehicles in and out of the right-of-way limits. The scheduled completion is in August of 2023.

  • Starting Tuesday, May 30, through Thursday, June 1, there will be overnight paving on US 301 (9 PM to 6:30 AM); expect temporary delays and allow more travel time. 
  • There will be no operations during Memorial Day.

SR 70 Westbound at Desoto County Line to Lorraine Road: Starting Tuesday, May 30, through Thursday, June 1, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews will be shoulder blading, replacing signs, repairing guardrail delineators, removing overgrown vegetation from under the guardrail, trimming trees, and replacing RPM’s. Motorists should expect lane closures (flagging operation) and shoulder closures. 

SR 64 Anna Maria Island Draw Bridge: Maintenance: Crews will be performing maintenance overnight on Thursday, June 8, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Please consider an alternate route as traffic will be reduced to one lane with flagging operations.

SR 684 Cortez Road from US 41/14th Street to 30th Avenue West: Permit project: Manatee County will be removing and installing new landscaping within the median. There will be intermittent north and south bound inside lane closures through the end of July from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Please watch for lane shifts and allow extra travel time.

I-75 at SR 72/Clark Road (Exit 205): Construction project: Project improvements include reconstructing the existing interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), adding auxiliary lane on I-75 northbound from SR 72 to Bee Ridge Road, widen I-75 southbound from Proctor Road to SR 72, and improvements on Clark Road. This week, crews will work on the ramps, retaining walls, noise walls, and drainage work.

US 41 South between South Palm Avenue and Hudson Avenue: Permit project:  Through the end of September 2023, crews will be working at the Marie Selby Gardens extending existing turn lanes, adding right turn lanes, making drainage improvements, adding signalization improvements, landscaping improvements, street lighting improvements and signing and pavement improvements.  Motorists should expect temporary inside and outside lane closures as well as overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Please use particular caution in the area and watch for pedestrians, bicyclists and workers.

US 41 from Beneva Road to Caribbean Drive: Construction project:  Construction on US 41 from Beneva Road to Caribbean Drive is making median modifications, widening paved shoulders, adding turn lanes to accommodate six-foot wide bicycle lanes and adding sidewalks along the 1.37-mile section of road. Modifications will be made to existing traffic signals and crosswalks to support bicycle lanes and new sidewalks. Crews are in the final stages so expect temporary lane closures may be needed.

US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point: Construction: Construction on the next phase along a 1.4-mile area of US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point Road has begun. Work consists of implementing safety improvements along the corridor, including resurfacing, lighting and signalization, median improvements, improved drainage, shoulder reconstruction, improved sidewalks, improved bicycle lanes, and curb and gutter improvements. This week no lane closures are expected.

US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue Roundabout: Construction project: Crews will work within the right-of-way, medians, driveways and throughout the project limits. Please use caution and watch for construction vehicles, dump trucks, semi-trucks and heavy equipment entering or exiting the work zone.

Activities Include:

    • Grading parking lot area and installing geogrid base material.
    • Adding debris skimmer and other finishing items on outfall drainage structure in the downtown pond. Decreased water levels within the pond will be part of this work.
    • Mount permanent signs throughout the project.
    • Installing permanent thermoplastic pavement markings during night work operations. Moving lane closures will occur during nighttime hours.
    • Performing storm drainage pipe inspection and repairs. Short-term lane closures will occur throughout the project to complete this work.

Detours/Crossings:

    • The sidewalk at the northwest corner of US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue is closed. Pedestrian paths are available via US 41 Multi-Use Recreational Trail (MURT) along Ritz Carlton Drive.
    • Marina Jacks north parking lot entrance/exit on Gulfstream Avenue is closed to vehicular traffic. Motorists may access the parking lot via Bayfront Drive at Main Street/Marina Plaza. No through traffic allowed through this area.

Detours and lane closures will be in place during various phases of the project. During construction, the speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph on US 41 and Gulfstream Avenue.

We encourage motorists to allow extra time to travel, follow the roadway signage and messaging and avoid making unauthorized U-turns or changing lanes across solid lines between the lanes when traveling through the construction work zone.

Work will consist of milling and resurfacing, shoulder/turn lane widening, sidewalk replacement, drainage improvements, signing and pavement markings, and signal and lighting improvements.

  • Overnight milling and resurfacing is underway on Midnight Pass Road from Shadow Lawn Way to Stickney Point.
  • Work will start at approximately 8 p.m. depending on traffic levels and go until approximately 5 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flagging operations.  Allow extra time.
  • Expect noise or light from construction equipment through the duration.
  • Temporary lane closures or flagging operations could be necessary throughout the duration of the project.

SR 72 Clark Road and Lorraine Road Roundabout: Permit construction project: Crews are finalizing the roundabout so continue to use caution in the area.

This week, crews will work on resurfacing I-75, US 301 work, and pile driving for the construction of the new southbound on-ramp bridge over the Manatee River and Salt Marsh Bridge.

  • Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 northbound during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction; double closures on I-75 southbound during the nighttime/overnight hours from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

Construction crews will be working at the intersection of US 41 BUS and 23rd Street to prepare for the traffic shift.

  • Motorists can expect temporary daytime lane closures from north of 17th Street to just past 23rd Street throughout the duration of the project.
  • Be cautious in the construction zone and reduce speed.  Lanes have shifted with areas of uneven payment.

US 301 from 60th Avenue East to Erie Road / Old Tampa Road: Construction:  Motorists can expect nighttime lane closures for paving operations throughout the project limits. There will be limited daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to pour concrete curbs, driveways, and sidewalks. A low-profile barrier has been installed in the right turn lane of US 301 southbound to Erie Road to protect drainage work in the corner of Erie Road and US 301 (by the CVS). This will reduce the length of the turn lane for the duration. Motorists can expect construction vehicles in and out of the right-of-way limits. The scheduled completion is in the summer of 2023.

SR 70 at Lorraine Road to Desoto County Line: Starting Monday, May 15, through Thursday, May 19, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews will be shoulder blading, replacing signs, repairing guardrail delineators, removing overgrown vegetation from under the guardrail, trimming trees, and replacing RPM’s. Motorists should expect lane closures (flagging operation) and shoulder closures.

SR 64 Manatee Avenue between 9th Street East to 6th Street East: Permit project: Going through Saturday, May 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., there will be intermittent outside westbound lane closures.  The City of Bradenton will be installing landscaping. Please allow extra travel time and watch for workers.

 

 

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

I-75 at SR 72/Clark Road (Exit 205): Construction project: Project improvements include reconstructing the existing interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), adding auxiliary lane on I-75 northbound from SR 72 to Bee Ridge Road, widen I-75 southbound from Proctor Road to SR 72, and improvements on Clark Road. This week, crews will work on the ramps, retaining walls, noise walls, and drainage work.

  • Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. bound through the duration of the construction.

US 41 South between South Palm Avenue and Hudson Avenue: Permit project:  Through the end of September 2023, crews will be working at the Marie Selby Gardens extending existing turn lanes, adding right turn lanes, making drainage improvements, adding signalization improvements, landscaping improvements, street lighting improvements and signing and pavement improvements.  Motorists should expect temporary inside and outside lane closures as well as overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Please use particular caution in the area and watch for pedestrians, bicyclists and workers.

US 41 from Beneva Road to Caribbean Drive: Construction project:  Construction on US 41 from Beneva Road to Caribbean Drive is making median modifications, widening paved shoulders, adding turn lanes to accommodate six-foot wide bicycle lanes and adding sidewalks along the 1.37-mile section of road. Modifications will be made to existing traffic signals and crosswalks to support the bicycle lanes and new sidewalks.

  • Median work should be complete in May with overall completion by June. Expect temporary lane closures of inner lanes. Most are temporary lane closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. unless safety requires it be maintained. Consider alternate routes or add additional time.
  • To reduce the number of vehicle conflict points and enhance safety, median openings along the corridor will be eliminated. Proceed to the next opening and make a U-turn.

Expected completion is summer 2023.

US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point: Construction: Construction on the next phase along a 1.4-mile area of US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point Road has begun. Work consists of implementing safety improvements along the corridor, including resurfacing, lighting and signalization, median improvements, improved drainage, shoulder reconstruction, improved sidewalks, improved bicycle lanes, and curb and gutter improvements. This week no lane closures are expected.

US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue Roundabout: Construction project: Crews will work within the right-of-way, medians, driveways and throughout the project limits. Please use caution and watch for construction vehicles, dump trucks, semi-trucks and heavy equipment entering or exiting the work zone.

Activities Include:

    • Removal of temporary roadway base material on US 41 along the Marina Jacks parking lot.
    • Installation of new sidewalk at the northwest corner of the Main Street and US 41 intersection.
    • Installation of new sidewalk on US 41 along the Marina Jacks parking lot.
    • Grading for new curb in the Marina Jacks parking lot in locations where it was removed for the project’s temporary traffic pattern.
    • Adding debris skimmer and other finishing items on outfall drainage structure in the downtown pond. Decreased water levels within the pond will be part of this work.
    • Install drainage pipe by the Marina Jacks parking lot.
    • Mount permanent signs throughout the project.

Detours/Crossings:

    • Phase 2B configuration is in place. Motorists on approach yield to motorists within the roundabout. Vehicles within the roundabout have priority and right of way.
    • Palm Avenue is closed at the US 41 connection in both directions. Entering and exiting the downtown area via Cocoanut Avenue to Fruitville Road is recommended.
    • The sidewalk at the northwest corner of US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue is closed. Pedestrian paths are available via US 41 Multi-Use Recreational Trail (MURT) along Ritz Carlton Drive.
    • The east pedestrian crosswalk at Sunset Drive and Gulfstream Avenue is closed. The west pedestrian crosswalk is available to cross Gulfstream Avenue. Signage and pedestrian barricades are in place for guidance.
    • Marina Jacks north parking lot entrance/exit on Gulfstream Avenue is closed to vehicular traffic. Motorists may access the parking lot via Bayfront Drive at Main Street/Marina Plaza. No through traffic allowed through this area.

Detours and lane closures will be in place during various phases of the project. During construction, the speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph on US 41 and Gulfstream Avenue.

We encourage motorists to allow extra time to travel, follow the roadway signage and messaging and avoid making unauthorized U-turns or changing lanes across solid lines between the lanes when traveling through the construction work zone.

Construction activities will take place weekdays and weekends, daytime and occasionally during nighttime hours. Expect noise from grinding asphalt, hammer drills, noise and vibration from construction equipment, backup alarms, vacuum trucks, pumps, and lighting.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of replacing the existing signalized intersection on US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue with a roundabout, installation of Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) system, raised pedestrian refuge islands, replacement of underground drainage structures, utilities, fiber optic, new LED streetlights, reconfiguration of stormwater retention ponds, sidewalks, and pedestrian walkways. Expected completion is spring 2023.

US 41 at Wellen Park Village Roundabout: Permit projectA traffic shift is in place so please pay close attention through the construction zone. The lane shift will be in place for approximately six (6) months. Consider alternate routes or add additional travel time during peak hours.

SR 777 River Road from US 41 to I-75: Construction project: Motorists can expect pond excavation near Venice Avenue on the northbound roadway. Embankment activities continue on the southbound roadway from US 41 to Stoney Creek Boulevard. SR 777 River Road from US 41 to I-75: Construction project: Motorists can expect pond excavation near Venice Avenue on the northbound roadway. Embankment activities continue on the southbound roadway from US 41 to Stoney Creek Blvd. Trucks will be crossing the road at various locations using intermittent flagging operations.  Drainage installation will also continue between Observation Blvd and Aucilla Dr.  There may be miscellaneous paving north and south of Venice Ave along northbound and southbound roadways, however, it will be out of traffic. Overall completion expected mid-2025.

SR 758 Midnight Pass from Stickney Point to Shadow Lawn Way: Construction project: Crews have begun a 1.6-mile roadway and safety improvement project on Midnight Pass Road (SR 758) from Stickney Point Road (SR 72)to Shadow Lawn Way in Sarasota County. Work will consist of milling and resurfacing, shoulder/turn lane widening, sidewalk replacement, drainage improvements, signing and pavement markings, and signal and lighting improvements. Expected completion is fall 2023.

  • Overnight milling and resurfacing is underway on Midnight Pass Road from Shadow Lawn Way to Stickney Point.
  • Work will start approximately 8 p.m. depending on traffic levels and go until approximately 5 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flagging operations.  Allow extra time.
  • Expect noise or lights from construction equipment through the duration.
  • Temporary lane closures or flagging operations could be necessary throughout the duration of the project.

SR 72 Clark Road and Lorraine Road Roundabout: Permit construction project: Crews are finalizing the roundabout so continue to use caution in the area.

I-75 at US 301 Interchange (Exit 224): Construction project: Project will widen the I-75 from SR 64 to the Manatee River, reconfigure the I-75/US 301 interchange from a partial cloverleaf interchange to a tight diamond configuration, construct new bridges will be constructed over the Manatee River for a northbound exit ramp and a southbound entrance ramp, and US 301 improvements. This week, crews will work on resurfacing I-75, US 301 work, and pile driving for the construction of the new southbound on-ramp bridge over the Manatee River and Salt Marsh Bridge.

  • Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 northbound during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction; double closures on I-75 southbound during the nighttime/overnight hours from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect double lane closures on I-75 northbound during nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the duration of the construction; double closures on I-75 southbound during the nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

US 41 from 17th to Bayshore Road/ 26th Street,  including the 23rd Street Roundabout, Palmetto: Construction:  Crews have begun work in the area so please use caution in the construction zone and be alert for construction equipment in the area. Construction crews will be working at the intersection of US 41 BUS and 23rd Street to prepare for the traffic shift.

  • Motorists can expect temporary daytime lane closures from north of 17th Street to just past 23rd Street throughout the duration of the project.
  • Be cautious in the construction zone and reduce speed.  Lanes have shifted with areas of uneven payment.
  • This week crews will focus on drainage and excavation work in the area.

US 41 Green Bridge: Special Event:  On Saturday, April 29, the Green Bridge will be closed for the City of Bradenton and the Hernando DeSoto Historical Society special event from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.  They will be closing SR 64 from 39th Street W to 1st Avenue West.  The detour for the Green Bridge is to use the Hernando DeSoto Bridge on US 301.

US 301 from 60th Avenue East to Erie Road / Old Tampa Road: Construction:  Crews will work in the median, placing asphalt in the areas of the road widening along US 301. Nighttime lane closures are expected to begin paving in median areas and break out areas of concrete requiring a lane closure. There will be limited daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to pour concrete curbs, driveways, and sidewalks. A low profile barrier has been installed in the right turn lane of US 301 southbound to Erie Road to protect drainage work in the corner of Erie Road and US 301 (by the CVS). This will reduce the length of the turn lane for the duration. Motorists can expect construction vehicles in and out of the right-of-way limits. The scheduled completion is in the summer of 2023.

SR 70 at Lorraine Road to Desoto County Line: Crews will be shoulder blading, repairing guardrail delineators, removing overgrown vegetation from under the guardrail, trimming trees, and replacing RPM’s in this area. Motorists should expect temporary lane closures (flagging operations) and shoulder closures in both directions through Thursday, May 4, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SR 64 Manatee Avenue between 9th Street East to 6th Street East: Permit project: Starting Monday, May 8, and going through Saturday, May 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., there will be intermittent outside westbound lane closures.  The City of Bradenton will be installing landscaping. Please allow extra travel time and watch for workers.

SR 64 from 39th Street West to 1st Avenue West: Special Event:  The City of Bradenton and the Hernando DeSoto Historical Society will be hosting a special event on Saturday, April 29, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.  They will be closing SR 64 from 39th Street West to 1st Avenue West.  They will also be closing the Green Bridge at US 41.  The detour for the Green Bridge is to use the Hernando DeSoto Bridge at US 301.

 

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

I-75 at SR 72/Clark Road (Exit 205): Construction project: Project improvements include reconstructing the existing interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), adding auxiliary lane on I-75 northbound from SR 72 to Bee Ridge Road, widen I-75 southbound from Proctor Road to SR 72, and improvements on Clark Road. This week, crews will work on the ramps, retaining walls, noise walls, and drainage work.

  • On Monday, May 1, at midnight to Tuesday, May 2, at 2 a.m., crews will CLOSE I-75 northbound just north of Laurel Road (Exit 195). All I-75 northbound drivers will exit at Laurel Road (Exit 195) and continue on Laurel Road to a right onto Honore Avenue to a right onto Clark Road to I-75 northbound.
  • On Monday, May 1 at midnight to Tuesday, May 2, at 2 a.m., crews will CLOSE the SR 681 on-ramp to I-75 northbound. Drivers will detour to a left onto Honore Avenue to a right onto Clark Road to I-75 northbound.
  • Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. bound through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect double lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 72 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 72 through the duration of the construction.

US 41 at the KMI Drawbridge: Bridge maintenance:  Crews will be performing a routine inspection of the bridge Tuesday, May 9, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists can expect temporary right lane closures.

US 41 South between South Palm Avenue and Hudson Avenue: Permit project:  Through the end of May 2023, crews will be working at the Marie Selby Gardens extending existing turn lanes, adding right turn lanes, making drainage improvements, adding signalization improvements, landscaping improvements, street lighting improvements and signing and pavement improvements.  Motorists should expect temporary inside and outside lane closures as well as overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.  The contractor will be performing intersection work affecting US 41 and Orange Avenue.   Please use particular caution in the area and watch for pedestrians and workers.

US 41 from Beneva Road to Caribbean Drive: Construction project:  Construction on US 41 from Beneva Road to Caribbean Drive is making median modifications, widening paved shoulders, adding turn lanes to accommodate six-foot wide bicycle lanes and adding sidewalks along the 1.37-mile section of road. Modifications will be made to existing traffic signals and crosswalks to support the bicycle lanes and new sidewalks.

  • Median work should be complete by May. Expect temporary lane closures of inner lanes. Most are temporary lane closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. unless safety requires it be maintained. Consider alternate routes or add additional time.

  • To reduce the number of vehicle conflict points and enhance safety, median openings along the corridor will be eliminated. Proceed to the next opening and make a U-turn.

Expected completion is summer 2023.

US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point: Construction: Construction on the next phase along a 1.4-mile area of US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point Road has begun. Work consists of implementing safety improvements along the corridor, including resurfacing, lighting and signalization, median improvements, improved drainage, shoulder reconstruction, improved sidewalks, improved bicycle lanes, and curb and gutter improvements. This week no lane closures are expected.

US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue Roundabout: Construction project: Crews will work within the right-of-way, medians, driveways and throughout the project limits. Please use caution and watch for construction vehicles, dump trucks, semi-trucks and heavy equipment entering or exiting the work zone.

Activities include:

    • Removal of temporary roadway base material on US 41 along the Marina Jacks parking lot.
    • Asphalt paving throughout the project (night work, see details below).
    • Installation of new sidewalk at the northwest corner of the Main Street and US 41 intersection.
    • Install drainage pipe by the Marina Jacks parking lot.
    • Mount permanent signs throughout the project.

Nighttime/Lane Closures:

Anticipated schedule, weather permitting:

    • Paving operations will continue nightly.
    • Paving operations will occur throughout the project. Pavement marking crews will be restoring traffic pattern on new asphalt.
    • Motorists traveling through the project during the night operation should expect to encounter lane closures between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
    • Traffic during the day will be restored to normal operation.

Detours/Crossings:

    • Phase 2B configuration is in place. Motorists on approach yield to motorists within the roundabout. Vehicles within the roundabout have priority and right of way.
    • Palm Avenue and 2nd Street are closed at the US 41 connection in both directions. Entering and exiting the downtown area via Cocoanut Avenue to Fruitville Road is recommended.
    • Sidewalk at the northwest corner of US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue is closed. Pedestrian paths are available via US 41 Multi-Use Recreational Trail (MURT) along Ritz Carlton Drive.
    • The east pedestrian crosswalk at Sunset Drive and Gulfstream Avenue is closed. The west pedestrian crosswalk is available to cross Gulfstream Avenue. Signage and pedestrian barricades are in place for guidance.
    • Marina Jacks north parking lot entrance/exit on Gulfstream Avenue is closed to vehicular traffic. Motorists may access the parking lot via Bayfront Drive at Main Street/Marina Plaza. No through traffic is allowed through this area. Motorists may not exit the Marina Jacks parking lot via Bayfront Drive at Main Street/Marina Plaza. The south exit at Ringling Boulevard must be used to exit Marina Jacks.

Detours and lane closures will be in place during various phases of the project. During construction, the speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph on US 41 and Gulfstream Avenue.

We encourage motorists to allow extra time to travel, follow the roadway signage and messaging and avoid making unauthorized U-turns or changing lanes across solid lines between the lanes when traveling through the construction work zone.

Construction activities will take place weekdays and weekends, daytime and occasionally during nighttime hours. Expect noise from grinding asphalt, hammer drills, noise and vibration from construction equipment, backup alarms, vacuum trucks, pumps, and lighting.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of replacing the existing signalized intersection on US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue with a roundabout, installation of Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) system, raised pedestrian refuge islands, replacement of underground drainage structures, utilities, fiber optic, new LED streetlights, reconfiguration of stormwater retention ponds, sidewalks, and pedestrian walkways. Expected completion is spring 2023.

US 41 at Wellen Park Village Roundabout: Permit projectA traffic shift is in place so please pay close attention through the construction zone. The lane shift will be in place for approximately six (6) months. Consider alternate routes or add additional travel time during peak hours.

US 41 South of Bayview Parkway at Dona Bay Bridge: Bridge maintenance: Crews are making bridge repairs so motorists can expect temporary daytime single lane closures of the outside lane from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Please use caution in the area, allow additional time for temporary delays or consider alternate routes.

SR 64 from 39th Street West to 1st Avenue West: Special Event Permit:  The City of Bradenton and the Hernando DeSoto Historical Society will be hosting a special event on Saturday, April 29, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.  They will be closing SR 64 from 39th Street W to 1st Ave West.  They will also be closing the Green Bridge at US 41.  The detour for the Green Bridge is to use the Hernando DeSoto Bridge at US 301.

SR 789 over Greer Island Park: Bridge maintenance: Crews will begin making overnight repairs starting Monday, April 24, through Thursday, April 27, 2023. Motorists can expect flagging operations from 9 p.m.-5 a.m.  Please use caution in the area.

SR 684 Cortez Road from 80th Street to 26th Street: Storm drain maintenance: Crews will be desilting and inspecting the roadway through this corridor until the end of April. Motorists can expect temporary overnight lane closures at various locations from  8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

  • On Sunday, April 30, from midnight to Monday, May 1, at 2 a.m., crews will CLOSE the I-75 northbound off-ramp to SR 72/Clark Road.  Drivers heading to Clark Road may either continue to I-75 at Bee Ridge Road (Exit 207) and return to I-75 southbound to SR 72/Clark Road (Exit 205); or, use alternate routes.
  • On Monday, May 1, from midnight to Tuesday, May 2, at 2 a.m., crews will CLOSE I-75 northbound just north of Laurel Road (Exit 195). US 41 at the KMI Drawbridge: Bridge maintenance:  Crews will be performing a routine inspection of the bridge Tuesday, May 9, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists can expect temporary right lane closures.

US 41 South between South Palm Avenue and Hudson Avenue: Permit project:  Through the end of May 2023, crews will be working at the Marie Selby Gardens extending existing turn lanes, adding right turn lanes, making drainage improvements, adding signalization improvements, landscaping improvements, street lighting improvements and signing and pavement improvements.  Motorists should expect temporary inside and outside lane closures as well as overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting April 10-11, 2023.  The contractor will be performing intersection work affecting US 41 and Orange Avenue.   Please use particular caution in the area and watch for pedestrians and workers.

US 41 from Beneva Road to Caribbean Drive: Construction project:  Construction on US 41 from Beneva Road to Caribbean Drive is making median modifications, widening paved shoulders, adding turn lanes to accommodate six-foot wide bicycle lanes and adding sidewalks along the 1.37-mile section of road. Modifications will be made to existing traffic signals and crosswalks to support the bicycle lanes and new sidewalks.

  • Median work should be complete by the end of April. Expect temporary lane closures both north and south inner lanes. Most are temporary lane closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. unless safety requires it be maintained. Consider alternate routes or add additional time.
  • To reduce the number of vehicle conflict points and enhance safety, median openings along the corridor will be eliminated. Proceed to the next opening and make a U-turn.

Expected completion is summer 2023.

US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point: Construction: Construction on the next phase along a 1.4-mile area of US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point Road has begun. Work consists of implementing safety improvements along the corridor, including resurfacing, lighting and signalization, median improvements, improved drainage, shoulder reconstruction, improved sidewalks, improved bicycle lanes, and curb and gutter improvements. This week no lane closures are expected.

US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue Roundabout: Construction project: Crews will work within the right-of-way, medians, driveways and throughout the project limits. Please use caution and watch for construction vehicles, dump trucks, semi-trucks and heavy equipment entering or exiting the work zone.

Activities Include:

    • Removal of temporary roadway base material on US 41 along the Marina Jacks parking lot.
    • Asphalt paving throughout the project (night work, see details below).
    • Run wire and make connections to recently installed Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) system and pedestrian signals.
    • Installation of new sidewalk at the northwest corner of the Main Street and US 41 intersection.

Nighttime/Lane Closures:

Anticipated schedule, weather permitting:

    • Nighttime paving operations are scheduled Sunday, April 23, 2023, and continue nightly through Thursday, April 27, 2023.
    • Paving operations will occur throughout the project. Pavement marking crews will be restoring traffic pattern on new asphalt.
    • Motorists traveling through the project during the night operation should expect to encounter lane closures between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
    • Traffic during the day will be restored to normal operation.

Detours/Crossings:

    • Phase 2B configuration is in place. Motorists on approach yield to motorists within the roundabout. Vehicles within the roundabout have priority and right of way.
    • Palm Avenue and 2nd Street are closed at the US 41 connection in both directions. Entering and exiting the downtown area via Cocoanut Avenue to Fruitville Road is recommended.
    • Sidewalk at the northwest corner of US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue is closed. Pedestrian paths are available via US 41 Multi-Use Recreational Trail (MURT) along Ritz Carlton Drive.
    • The east pedestrian crosswalk at Sunset Drive and Gulfstream Avenue is closed. The west pedestrian crosswalk is available to cross Gulfstream Avenue. Signage and pedestrian barricades are in place for guidance.
    • Marina Jacks north parking lot entrance/exit on Gulfstream Avenue is closed to vehicular traffic. Motorists may access the parking lot via Bayfront Drive at Main Street/Marina Plaza. No through traffic allowed through this area. Motorist may not exit the Marina Jacks parking lot via Bayfront Drive at Main Street/Marina Plaza. The south exit at Ringling Boulevard must be used to exit Marina Jacks.

Detours and lane closures will be in place during various phases of the project. During construction, the speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph on US 41 and Gulfstream Avenue.

We encourage motorists to allow extra time to travel, follow the roadway signage and messaging and avoid making unauthorized U-turns or changing lanes across solid lines between the lanes when traveling through the construction work zone.

Construction activities will take place weekdays and weekends, daytime and occasionally during nighttime hours. Expect noise from grinding asphalt, hammer drills, noise and vibration from construction equipment, backup alarms, vacuum trucks, pumps, and lighting.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of replacing the existing signalized intersection on US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue with a roundabout, installation of Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) system, raised pedestrian refuge islands, replacement of underground drainage structures, utilities, fiber optic, new LED streetlights, reconfiguration of stormwater retention ponds, sidewalks, and pedestrian walkways. Expected completion is spring 2023.

US 41 at Wellen Park Village Roundabout: Permit projectA traffic shift is in place so please pay close attention through the construction zone. The lane shift will be in place for approximately six (6) months. Consider alternate routes or add additional travel time during peak hours.

US 41 South of Bayview Parkway at Dona Bay Bridge: Bridge maintenance: Starting Monday, April 24, crews will begin making bridge repairs. Motorists can expect temporary daytime single lane closures of the outside lane from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.  Please use caution in the area, allow additional time for temporary delays, or consider alternate routes.

SR 777 River Road from US 41 to I-75: Construction project: Motorists can expect pond excavation near Venice Avenue on the northbound roadway. Embankment activities continue on the southbound roadway from US 41 to Venice Avenue and northbound roadway from Venice Avenue to the north. Lighting installation will continue on northbound and southbound roadway, near Venice Avenue; trucks will be crossing the road at various locations using intermittent flagging operations.  Drainage and curb installation will also continue at various project locations. Overall completion expected mid-2025.

SR 758 Midnight Pass from Stickney Point to Shadow Lawn Way: Construction project: Crews have begun a 1.6-mile roadway and safety improvement project on Midnight Pass Road (SR 758) from Stickney Point Road (SR 72)to Shadow Lawn Way in Sarasota County. Work will consist of milling and resurfacing, shoulder/turn lane widening, sidewalk replacement, drainage improvements, signing and pavement markings, and signal and lighting improvements. Expected completion is fall 2023.

  • On Midnight Pass, both traffic lanes will remain open during construction. Expect lane shifts however as lanes are adjusted so crews can work in a specific area.
  • Starting Monday night, April 17th, overnight milling and resurfacing will begin on Midnight Pass Road by the Saint Michael Archangel Catholic Church.
  • Work will start approximately 8 p.m. depending on traffic levels and go until approximately 5 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flagging operations.  Allow extra time.
  • Expect noise or lights from construction equipment through the duration.
  • Temporary lane closures or flagging operations could be necessary throughout the duration of the project.

SR 72 between Beneva Road to Honore Avenue: Permit project: There will be an intermittent outside eastbound lane closure on SR 72 between Beneva Road and Honore Avenue starting Tuesday, April 25, to Tuesday, May 2, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Crews will be performing soil testing.  Please watch for lane closures and allow extra travel time.

SR 72 Clark Road and Lorraine Road Roundabout: Permit construction project: Crews are finalizing the roundabout so continue to use caution in the area.

SR 72 Clark Road at Proctor Road and Dove Avenue Roundabout: Construction project: Traffic is now in the roundabout configuration and the speed through the roundabout has been reduced to 25 MPH.

  • Motorists can expect shoulder work and short duration flagging operations for the next two weeks performing final clean-up.
  • Thermoplastic road marking will begin in approximately two weeks.
  • Expect noise from back-up alarms, trucks, and construction equipment both day and night for the remainder of the project. 

SR 72 Clark Road from Big Slough Canal to Desoto County Line:  Construction: Crews are working the final punch list items as the project is completed.  Expect intermittent lane closures within the project boundaries with flaggers on both ends. The expected completion is April 2023.

SR 72 Clark Road at Stickney Point from west of US 41 to Glencoe Avenue: Permit project: Crews are installing traffic signals, yet no lane closures are currently expected.

This week, crews will work on resurfacing I-75, US 301 work, and pile driving for the construction of the new southbound on-ramp bridge over the Manatee River and Salt Marsh Bridge.

  • Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 northbound during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction; double closures on I-75 southbound during the nighttime/overnight hours from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect double lane closures on I-75 northbound during nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the duration of the construction; double closures on I-75 southbound during the nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

Construction crews will be working at the intersection of US 41 BUS and 23rd Street to prepare for the traffic shift.

  • Motorists can expect temporary daytime lane closures from north of 17th Street to just past 23rd Street throughout the duration of the project.
  • Be cautious in the construction zone and reduce speed.  Lanes have shifted with areas of uneven payment.
  • This week crews will continue with clearing and grubbing in the area and the pedestrian trail.  Crews will shift to drainage work in the area.

US 41 at Ponce De Leon Avenue, and 15th Street East and 13th Avenue East Northbound: Maintenance: Starting Monday, April 17, through Friday, April 21, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews will be making inlet top repairs. Motorists should expect intermittent flagging operations. 

US 301 from 60th Avenue East to Erie Road / Old Tampa Road: Construction:  Crews will work in the median, placing asphalt in the areas of the road widening along US 301. Nighttime lane closures are expected to begin paving in median areas and break out areas of concrete requiring a lane closure. There will be limited daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to pour concrete curbs, driveways, and sidewalks. Low profile barrier to be partially installed on Sunday, April 16, in the right turn lane of US 301 southbound to Erie Road to protect drainage work in the corner of Erie Road and US 301 (by the CVS). This will reduce the length of the turn lane for the 5-day duration. Motorists can expect construction vehicles in and out of the right-of-way limits. The scheduled completion is in the summer of 2023.

SR 64 East of Lorraine Road to the County line: Maintenance: Starting Monday, April 17, through Friday, April 21, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews will be performing shoulder blading and shoulder rework. Motorists should expect intermittent flagging operations and shoulder closures.

SR 789 over Greer Island Park: Bridge maintenance: Crews will begin making overnight repairs starting Monday, April 24, through Thursday, April 27, 2023. Motorists can expect flagging operations from 9 p.m.-5 a.m.  Please use caution in the area.

SR 684 Cortez Road from 80th Street to 26th Street: Storm drain maintenance: Crews will be desilting and inspecting the roadway through this corridor until the end of April. Motorists can expect temporary overnight lane closures at various locations from  8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

 

 

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

I-75 at SR 72/Clark Road (Exit 205): Construction project: Project improvements include reconstructing the existing interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), adding auxiliary lane on I-75 northbound from SR 72 to Bee Ridge Road, widen I-75 southbound from Proctor Road to SR 72, and improvements on Clark Road. This week, crews will work on the ramps, retaining walls, noise walls, and drainage work.

  • Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. bound through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect double lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

US 41 from 17th to Bayshore Road/ 26th Street,  including the 23rd Street Roundabout, Palmetto: Construction:  Crews have begun work in the area so please use caution in the construction zone and be alert for construction equipment in the area. Construction crews will be working at the intersection of US 41 BUS and 23rd Street to prepare for the traffic shift.

  • Motorists can expect temporary daytime lane closures from north of 17th Street to just past 23rd Street throughout the duration of the project.
  • Be cautious in the construction zone and reduce speed.  Lanes have shifted with areas of uneven payment.
  • This week crews will continue with clearing and grubbing in the area and the pedestrian trail.  Crews will shift to drainage work in the area.

US 41 Northbound in Front of the Sarasota Bradenton Airport: Maintenance: Starting Monday, April 10, through Friday, April 14, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews will be making inlet top repairs. The outside northbound lane will be closed. Motorists should expect lane closures and lane shifts.  Use caution in the roadway.

US 41 and US 301 Northbound, in Front of the Red Barn Flee Market: Maintenance: Starting Monday, April 10, through Friday, April 14, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews will be making drainage repairs by the south entrance. Motorists should expect lane closures and lane shifts.  Use caution in the roadway.

US 41 between 54th Avenue West and 55th Avenue West Northbound: Permit project: There will be an intermittent lane closure northbound in the outside lane through Friday, April 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Crews will be constructing a driveway entrance and sidewalk.  Please watch for lane closures and allow extra travel time.

US 41 at Ponce De Leon Avenue, and 15th Street East at 13th Avenue East: Maintenance: Starting Monday, April 3, through Friday, April 7, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews will be making sidewalk and curb inlet repairs. Motorists should expect lane closures and lane shifts.  Use caution in the roadway.

US 41 at Dona Bay Bridge: Bridge maintenance: During the second week in April after season, crews will be making bridge repairs in the area. Motorists can expect daytime temporary single lane closures.  Please use caution in the area.

US 301 from 60th Avenue East to Erie Road / Old Tampa Road: Construction:  Crews will work in the median, placing asphalt in the areas of the road widening along US 301. Nighttime lane closures are expected to begin paving in median areas and break out areas of concrete requiring a lane closure. There will be limited daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to pour concrete curbs, driveways, and sidewalks. Motorists can expect construction vehicles in and out of the Right of Way limits. The scheduled completion is in the summer of 2023.

SR 70 at Crane Park and SR 64 East of Lorraine Road to County Line Road.: Maintenance: Starting Monday, April 10, through Friday, April 14, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews will be shoulder blading, shoulder rework and reworking ditches. Motorists should expect lane closures (flagging operation) and shoulder closures.  Use caution in the roadway.

SR 789 over Greer Island Park: Bridge maintenance: Crews will begin making overnight repairs starting Monday, April 24, through Thursday, April 27, 2023. Motorists can expect flagging operations from 9 p.m.-5 a.m.  Please use caution in the area.

SR 684 Cortez Road from 80th Street to 26th Street: Storm drain maintenance: Crews will be desilting and inspecting the roadway through this corridor until the end of April. Motorists can expect temporary overnight lane closures at various locations from  8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

 

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

I-75 at SR 72/Clark Road (Exit 205): Construction project: Project improvements include reconstructing the existing interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), adding auxiliary lane on I-75 northbound from SR 72 to Bee Ridge Road, widen I-75 southbound from Proctor Road to SR 72, and improvements on Clark Road. This week, crews will work on the ramps, retaining walls, noise walls, and drainage work.

  • Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. bound through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect double lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 72 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
  • Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 72 through the duration of the construction.
  • Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

US 41 South between South Palm Avenue and Hudson Avenue: Permit project:  Through the end of May 2023, crews will be working at the Marie Selby Gardens extending existing turn lanes, adding right turn lanes, making drainage improvements, adding signalization improvements, landscaping improvements, street lighting improvements and signing and pavement improvements.  Motorists should expect temporary inside and outside lane closures as well as overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting April 10-11, 2023.  The contractor will be performing intersection work affecting US 41 and Orange Avenue.   Please use particular caution in the area and watch for pedestrians and workers.

US 41 from Beneva Road to Caribbean Drive: Construction project:  Construction on US 41 from Beneva Road to Caribbean Drive is making median modifications, widening paved shoulders, adding turn lanes to accommodate six-foot wide bicycle lanes and adding sidewalks along the 1.37-mile section of road. Modifications will be made to existing traffic signals and crosswalks to support the bicycle lanes and new sidewalks.

  • Median work should be complete by the end of April. Expect temporary lane closures both north and south inner lanes. Most are temporary lane closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. unless safety requires it be maintained. Consider alternate routes or add additional time, approximately 7-10 minutes.
  • To reduce the number of vehicle conflict points and enhance safety, median openings along the corridor will be eliminated. Proceed to the next opening and make a U-turn.

Expected completion is summer 2023.

US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point: Construction: Construction on the next phase along a 1.4-mile area of US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point Road has begun. Work consists of implementing safety improvements along the corridor, including resurfacing, lighting and signalization, median improvements, improved drainage, shoulder reconstruction, improved sidewalks, improved bicycle lanes, and curb and gutter improvements. This week no lane closures are expected.

US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue Roundabout: Construction project: Crews will work within the right-of-way, medians, driveways and throughout the project limits. Please use caution and watch for construction vehicles, dump trucks, semi-trucks and heavy equipment entering or exiting the work zone.

Activities Include:

    • Removal of temporary roadway base material on US 41 along the Marina Jacks parking lot.
    • Install concrete median traffic separator on US 41 from the Fruitville Road roundabout to the Gulfstream Avenue roundabout.
    • Asphalt paving throughout the project (night work, see details below).
    • Run wire and make connections to recently installed Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) system and pedestrian signals.
    • Install light pole and pull box concrete aprons throughout the project.
    • Sod placement throughout the project.

Nighttime/Lane Closures: Anticipated schedule, weather permitting:

    • Nighttime paving operations are scheduled Monday, 4/10/23 and continue nightly through Thursday, 4/13/23.
    • Paving operations will occur throughout the project.
    • Motorists traveling through the project during the night operation should expect to encounter lane closures between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
    • Traffic during the day will be restored to normal operation.

Detours/Crossings:

    • Phase 2B configuration is in place. Motorists on approach yield to motorists within the roundabout. Vehicles within the roundabout have priority and right of way.
    • Palm Avenue and 2nd Street are closed at the US 41 connection in both directions. Entering and exiting the downtown area via Cocoanut Avenue to Fruitville Road is recommended.
    • Sidewalk at the northwest corner of US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue is closed. Pedestrian paths are available via US 41 Multi-Use Recreational Trail (MURT) along Ritz Carlton Drive.
    • The east pedestrian crosswalk at Sunset Drive and Gulfstream Avenue is closed. The west pedestrian crosswalk is available to cross Gulfstream Avenue. Signage and pedestrian barricades are in place for guidance.
    • Marina Jacks north parking lot entrance/exit on Gulfstream Avenue is closed to vehicular traffic. Motorists may access the parking lot via Bayfront Drive at Main Street/Marina Plaza. No traffic allowed through this area. Motorists may not exit the Marina Jacks parking lot via Bayfront Drive at Main Street/Marina Plaza. The south exit at Ringling Boulevard must be used to exit Marina Jacks.

Detours and lane closures will be in place during various phases of the project. During construction, the speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph on US 41 and Gulfstream Avenue.

We encourage motorists to allow extra time to travel, follow the roadway signage and messaging and avoid making unauthorized U-turns or changing lanes across solid lines between the lanes when traveling through the construction work zone.

Construction activities will take place weekdays and weekends, daytime and occasionally during nighttime hours. Expect noise from grinding asphalt, hammer drills, noise and vibration from construction equipment, backup alarms, vacuum trucks, pumps, and lighting.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of replacing the existing signalized intersection on US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue with a roundabout, installation of Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) system, raised pedestrian refuge islands, replacement of underground drainage structures, utilities, fiber optic, new LED streetlights, reconfiguration of stormwater retention ponds, sidewalks, and pedestrian walkways. Expected completion is spring 2023.

US 41 at Wellen Park Village Roundabout: Permit projectA traffic shift is in place so please pay close attention through the construction zone. The lane shift will be in place for approximately six (6) months.

US 41 Venice Bypass South of East Venice Avenue: Permit project: There will be an intermittent outside southbound lane closure on US 41Venice Bypass south of East Venice Avenue,  on Thursday and Friday, April 6 and 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Crews will be performing ground penetrating radar for upcoming construction.  Please be alert for lane closures and allow extra travel time.

US 41 and Hatchett Creek Bridge Southbound: Bridge maintenance: Crews will begin making overnight repairs starting Wednesday, April 12, 2023. Motorists can expect flagging operations and temporary overnight lane closures from 9 p.m.-5 a.m.  Please use caution in the area.

SR 777 River Road from US 41 to I-75: Construction project: Motorists can expect pond excavation near Venice Avenue on the northbound roadway. Embankment activities continue on the southbound roadway from US 41 to Venice Avenue and northbound roadway from Venice Avenue to the north. Lighting installation will continue on northbound and southbound roadway, near Venice Avenue; trucks will be crossing the road at various locations using intermittent flagging operations.  Drainage installation will also continue at various project locations while signal foundations will be installed at Center Road and West Villages Parkway. Overall completion expected mid-2025.

SR 758 Midnight Pass from Stickney Point to Shadow Lawn Way: Construction project: Crews have begun a 1.6-mile roadway and safety improvement project on Midnight Pass Road (SR 758) from Stickney Point Road (SR 72)to Shadow Lawn Way in Sarasota County. Work will consist of milling and resurfacing, shoulder/turn lane widening, sidewalk replacement, drainage improvements, signing and pavement markings, and signal and lighting improvements. Expected completion is fall 2023.

  • On Midnight Pass, both traffic lanes will remain open during construction. Expect lane shifts however as lanes are adjusted so crews can work in a specific area.
  • Starting Monday night, April 17th, overnight milling and resurfacing will begin on Midnight Pass Road. Work will start approximately 8 p.m. depending on traffic levels and go until approximately 5 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flagging operations.  Allow extra time.
  • Expect noise or lights from construction equipment through the duration.
  • Temporary lane closures or flagging operations could be necessary throughout the duration of the project.

SR 789 New Pass Bridge both North and Southbound: Bridge maintenance: Crews will begin making overnight repairs starting Thursday, April 13,  and continuing April 17 & 18,  2023. Motorists can expect flagging operations and temporary overnight lane closures from 9 p.m.-5 a.m.  Please use caution in the area.

SR 72 between Beneva Road to Honore Avenue: Permit project: There will be an intermittent outside eastbound lane closure on SR 72 between Beneva Road and Honore Avenue starting Tuesday, April 25, to Tuesday, May 2, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Crews will be performing soil testing.  Please watch for lane closures and allow extra travel time.

SR 72 Clark Road and Lorraine Road Roundabout: Permit construction project: Crews are finalizing the roundabout so continue to use caution in the area.

SR 72 Clark Road at Proctor Road and Dove Avenue Roundabout: Construction project: Traffic is now in the roundabout configuration and the speed through the roundabout has been reduced to 25 MPH.

  • There will be overnight detours this week from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. so follow displayed signage.
    • Westbound detour:  turn left on Hawkins Road, then right on either Hummingbird or Ibis Street by Twin Lakes Park. 
    • Northbound detour:  Proctor Road - go north on Proctor Road to Bee Ridge Road, turning left or westward.  Then return to SR 72 via a left on Honore Avenue.
  • Expect noise from back-up alarms, trucks, and construction equipment both day and night for the remainder of the project.
  • When needed, motorists can experience short duration flagging operations.
  • Bicyclists should use the sidewalk to navigate the roundabout.
  • Travel lanes on this section of SR 72 have been reduced to 11 feet wide and to 10 feet wide on Proctor Road, so please use caution in the work zone and be aware of bicyclists. 

SR 72 Clark Road from Big Slough Canal to Desoto County Line:  Construction: Crews are working the final punch list items as the project is completed.  Expect intermittent lane closures within the project boundaries with flaggers on both ends. The expected completion is April 2023.

SR 72 Clark Road at Stickney Point from west of US 41 to Glencoe Avenue: Permit project: Crews are installing traffic signals, yet no lane closures are currently expected.
