MANATEE COUNTY

Various locations along SR 684 and US 301: Construction project: Crews are installing new highway lighting at various locations along SR 684 from Gulf Drive to 9^th Street W and on US 301 from Tallevast Road to 9^th Street E. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 10:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Expected completion is fall 2019. PowerCore, Inc. is the contractor.

I-275 at the Sunshine Skyway Rest Areas in Manatee and Pinellas Counties: Construction project: Improvements include constructing new rest areas and new parking lots with LED lighting, seawall repairs and extending the seawall at the Manatee County rest area to accommodate a new picnic pavilion.  The Manatee County rest area is closed for renovations. Motorists should use the Pinellas County rest area during this time. The fishing pier will remain open during the closure; however, there will be intermittent flagging operations along the fishing pier access road in Manatee County for moving of equipment and materials. Expected completion is spring 2020. David Nelson Construction Company is the contractor. 

I-275 Southbound Ramp to I-75 Northbound (Exit 228): Construction project: Crews are replacing the concrete bridge deck on the southbound I-275 ramp to northbound I-75. The I-275 southbound ramp to northbound I-75 will remain through the summer. Traffic is being detoured north on US 41/S Tamiami Trail to SR 674/E College Avenue in Hillsborough County. A temporary traffic signal has been installed on US 41 at the southbound I-275 exit. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures on the I-275 southbound ramp to I-75 southbound from 9 p.m. each night to 6 a.m. each morning Sunday, September 8 through Saturday, September 14. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures on I-75 northbound and I-75 southbound between Moccasin Wallow Road and just south of the I-275 interchange from 9 p.m. each night to 6 a.m. each morning Sunday, September 8 through Saturday, September 14. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Expected completion is fall 2019. Cone & Graham, Inc. is the contractor.

I-75 at SR 70 Interchange (Exit 217): Construction project: This week, crews will work on widening I-75, the ramps, retaining walls, excavating interchange and SR 70 stormwater ponds and drainage, and working on the bridges over SR 70 and the Braden River.

• SR 70 on-ramp to I-75 northbound will be closed during the overnight hours from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Friday, September 13th, weather permitting.  Weather make-up date is Sunday, September 15th.
• Motorists wishing to travel northbound on I-75 are advised to take I-75 southbound to Exit 224/University Parkway and return to the interstate northbound; or, use local routes.
• Motorists should expect lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from  8:45 p.m. to 6 a.m. (northbound) or 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (southbound) through the duration of the construction.
• Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 70 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
• Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 70 through the duration of the construction.
• Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is late 2021. The contractor is Sacyr Construction USA, LLC.

SR 789 at the Longboat Key Pass Bridge: Construction project: Crews are making structural, electrical and mechanical repairs on the bridge. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sidewalk closures are also expected during construction. Southern Road & Bridge, LLC is the contractor. Expected completion is late summer 2019.

SR 64 at Rye Road: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-lane roundabout; resurfacing the roadway; improving drainage, and installing new highway lighting and landscaping. A traffic switch has been implemented shifting traffic to the current westbound lanes using temporary crossovers. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the project limits. Rye Road will remain accessible during this time. The speed limit on State Road 64 will be reduced to 45 mph. IBT Construction is the contractor. Expected completion is late 2019.

SR 43 (10^th Street) from 6^th Avenue Drive W to 2^nd Avenue: Construction project: Crews are making improvements to two railroad crossings, improving drainage, constructing sidewalk, and constructing turn lanes on State Road 43 (10^th Street). Nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. will occur throughout construction while crews are working. Expected completion is fall 2019. Preferred Materials, Inc., is the contractor.

SARASOTA COUNTY

US 301 from SR 780 (Fruitville Road) to 10^th Street: Construction project: Crews are making median modifications, installing traffic separators, constructing turn-lanes, improving drainage, and constructing sidewalk. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Expected completion is late summer 2019. AJAX Paving Industries of Florida is the contractor.

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota:  Construction project: Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.

• Brick pavers are expected to be installed at 10th and 14th Street.
• Sidewalks are expected to be installed at 10th and 14th Street. Expect concrete trucks entering and exiting the travel lanes.
• Roadway base work is expected at the SW and SE corner of 14th Street. Expect vibration from rollers.
• Work is expected at along US 41 from 11th Street to 14th Street for watermain tie ins. There will be temporary disruption in service for the a few water services along      US 41, along 13th Street and 14th Street. Expect backup alarms, excavators, pumps while work is being performed. The City of Sarasota will notify and coordinate shutdowns with the impacted residents as needed.
• Waterline and drainage work are expected at the boat ramp area, no disruption to boat ramp access is expected at this time.
• Light pole installation and sidewalk installation expected at 14th Street. Expect concrete trucks entering and exiting the construction zones.
• Traffic switch to Phase 2 is expected in 3 to 4 weeks. Both north bound and south bound lanes will be shifted to the west for the upcoming phase.
• New boat ramp driveway is open. Use caution as the wider driveway is intended for both entering and exiting traffic
• Pedestrian crossings on 14th Street/Imperial Drive at US 41 have been reconfigured around the work zone. Pedestrians are advised to use the designated sidewalks and cross walks.
• Pedestrian crosswalks and stop bar on the south bound lanes at 14th Street are marked. For the safety of pedestrians, motorists are urged to stop at the designated stop bar.
• Centennial Park Boat Ramp driveway on 10th Street will be closed. Motorists can access the boat ramp via the US 41 entrance. Northbound left turn lane from US 41 into the boat ramp is available.
• The traffic pattern will be limited to right turn in/out for 11th, 12th and 13th Street. Traveling southbound and northbound direction left turns are not permitted at 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th Streets. Motorists are advised to follow the posted signs.

Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a 6-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED street lights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is spring 2020. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.

US 41 from Hospital Road to River Road: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing new turn-lanes, driveway connections, and working in the medians. Expect intermittent north and southbound daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, September 13. Use caution and expect possible delays.

US 41 from McIntosh Road to Beneva Road: Construction project: Crews are constructing sidewalk and bicycle lanes, improving drainage, reconstructing the US 41 southbound bridge over Catfish Creek south of Central Sarasota Parkway, installing highway lighting, upgrading signals, and installing new signing and pavement markings.

• Northbound nighttime/overnight lane closures may occur between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
• Southbound nighttime/overnight lane closures may occur between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 a.m.
• The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph within the construction zone.

Motorists should use caution and obey the posted speed limit. Expected completion is fall 2019. The contractor is Morrison-Cobalt JV.

US 41 from Tuscola Boulevard to Ortiz Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-use path; installing bus pads and shelters; improving drainage; constructing/replacing sidewalk; installing guardrail and highway lighting, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Daytime lane closures between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. are possible. Lane closures within 600 feet of signalized intersections are not permitted between 5:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Florida Safety Contractors, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is summer 2019. 

US 41 (Venice Bypass) from Center Road from to Gulf Coast Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard to a six-lane highway; replacing traffic signals, installing new pavement markings and signage; installing concrete curb, sidewalks; improving new drainage, and installing new highway lighting. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Bergeron Land Development, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2021.

SR 72 at various locations: Construction project: Crews are installing highway lighting and constructing sidewalk along SR 72 at Frontage Road; Gantt Road; Honore Avenue; McIntosh Road; Sawyer Road; Beneva Road; Lockwood Ridge Road; Swift Road, Gateway Avenue, and at the Sarasota Pavilion entrance. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Expected completion is late summer 2019. SR 72 (Clark Road) at Bee Ridge Road Extension/Lorraine Road: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing a right turn-lane. Expect intermittent lane closures and flagging operations from 9 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. each morning through Friday, September 13. Use caution and expect possible delays.

• SR 70 westbound will be closed underneath I-75 during the overnight hours from    11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Monday, August 26th, weather permitting, while crews install interstate bridge concrete deck.  Beginning at 8 p.m. each evening, crews will close two lanes on SR 70 westbound, with the total closure beginning at 11 p.m.  Weather make-up date, if needed, is Tuesday, August 27th.
• Motorists wishing to travel SR 70 westbound are advised take I-75 northbound to Exit 220/SR 64 and return to the interstate southbound and exit at Exit 217/SR 70; or, use local routes.
• Motorists should expect lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8:45 p.m. to 6 a.m. (northbound) or 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (southbound) through the duration of the construction.

SR 776 (Indiana Avenue) at CR 777 (Dearborn Street): Construction project: Crews are making pedestrian and ADA improvements, vehicle detection overhead traffic signal modifications, sidewalk enhancements and installing highway lighting. Expect northbound lane closures from 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. and southbound lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Expected completion is summer 2019. Contact Network LLC is the contractor.

I-75 at SR 70 Interchange (Exit 217): Construction project: This week, crews will work on widening I-75, the ramps, retaining walls, excavating interchange and SR 70 stormwater ponds and drainage, signals and lighting, and working on the bridges over SR 70 and the Braden River.

• SR 70 eastbound will be closed underneath I-75 during the overnight hours from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20th, weather permitting, while crews install interstate bridge concrete deck.  Beginning at 8 p.m. each evening, crews will close two lanes on SR 70 eastbound, with the total closure beginning at 11 p.m.  Weather make-up date, if needed, is Wednesday, August 21st.
• Motorists wishing to travel SR 70 eastbound are advised take I-75 southbound to  Exit 213/University Parkway and return to the interstate northbound and exit at     Exit 217/SR 70; or, use local routes.
• I-75 northbound and southbound off-ramps to SR 70 will be reduced to one lane each evening from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Motorists should expect lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8:45 p.m. to 6 a.m. (northbound) or 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (southbound) through the duration of the construction.
• Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 70 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

I-75 at US 301: Maintenance project: Crews are making roadway repairs to the I-75 southbound on-ramps from US 301. Motorists should expect nighttime/overnight lane shifts and reduced lane widths from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, August 19 while crews are working, weather permitting. Should weather delay work on Monday, work will occur on Tuesday, August 20 instead.

SR 789 at the Longboat Key Pass Bridge: Construction project: Crews are making structural, electrical and mechanical repairs on the bridge. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sidewalk closures are also expected during construction. Beginning Monday, August 5, and continuing for the next two weeks, there will be extended bridge openings between midnight and 4 a.m. while the contractor is working. The openings are expected to take up to 30 minutes each occurrence. Southern Road & Bridge, LLC is the contractor. Expected completion is late summer 2019.

SR 64 at Rye Road: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-lane roundabout; resurfacing the roadway; improving drainage, and installing new highway lighting and landscaping. A traffic switch has been implemented shifting traffic to the current westbound lanes using temporary crossovers. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the project limits. Rye Road will remain accessible during this time. The speed limit on State Road 64 will be reduced to 45 mph. IBT Construction is the contractor. Expected completion is late 2019.

SR 43 (10^th Street) from 6^th Avenue Drive W to 2^nd Avenue: Construction project: Crews are making improvements to two railroad crossings, improving drainage, constructing sidewalk, and constructing turn lanes on State Road 43 (10^th Street). Nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. will occur throughout construction while crews are working. Expected completion is fall 2019. Preferred Materials, Inc., is the contractor.

SARASOTA COUNTY

US 301 from SR 780 (Fruitville Road) to 10^th Street: Construction project: Crews are making median modifications, installing traffic separators, constructing turn-lanes, improving drainage, and constructing sidewalk. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Expected completion is late summer 2019. AJAX Paving Industries of Florida is the contractor.

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota:  Construction project: Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.

• Brick pavers are expected to be installed along US 41 on the west side and on 14th Street.
• Roadway base work is expected at the SW and SE corner of 14th Street.
• Night work is expected at 10th and 11th street for watermain tie ins in 2 weeks. This work is tentatively scheduled and is dependent on weather and local agency approvals. Expect backup alarms, excavators, pumps while work is being performed. Hours of activity is expected 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Light pole installation and sidewalk installation expected at 14th Street. Expect concrete trucks entering and exiting the construction zones.
• A new traffic pattern on west side of 10th Street is implemented. Travel lanes have been slightly shifted north. There will be only one lane going east and one lane going west during the temporary phase.
• New boat ramp driveway is open. Use caution as the wider driveway is intended for both entering and exiting traffic
• Pedestrian crossings on 14th Street/Imperial Drive at US 41 have been reconfigured around the work zone. Pedestrians are advised to use the designated sidewalks and cross walks.
• Pedestrian crosswalks and stop bar on the south bound lanes at 14th Street are marked. For the safety of pedestrians, motorists are urged to stop at the designated stop bar.
• Centennial Park Boat Ramp driveway on 10th Street will be closed. Motorists can access the boat ramp via the US 41 entrance. Northbound left turn lane from US 41 into the boat ramp is available.
• The traffic pattern will be limited to right turn in/out for 11th, 12th and 13th Street. Traveling southbound and northbound direction left turns are not permitted at 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th Streets. Motorists are advised to follow the posted signs.

Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a 6-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED street lights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is spring 2020. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.

US 41 from Hospital Road to River Road: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing new turn-lanes, driveway connections, and working in the medians. Expect intermittent north and southbound daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, August 23. Use caution and expect possible delays.

US 41 from McIntosh Road to Beneva Road: Construction project: Crews are constructing sidewalk and bicycle lanes, improving drainage, reconstructing the US 41 southbound bridge over Catfish Creek south of Central Sarasota Parkway, installing highway lighting, upgrading signals, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Paving operations are expected to begin the evening of Sunday, August 18 and continue throughout the week.

• Northbound nighttime/overnight lane closures may occur between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
• Southbound nighttime/overnight lane closures may occur between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 a.m.
• The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph within the construction zone.

US 41 from Tuscola Boulevard to Ortiz Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-use path; installing bus pads and shelters; improving drainage; constructing/replacing sidewalk; installing guardrail and highway lighting, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Daytime lane closures between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. are possible. Lane closures within 600 feet of signalized intersections are not permitted between 5:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Florida Safety Contractors, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is summer 2019. 

US 41 (Venice Bypass) from Center Road from to Gulf Coast Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard to a six-lane highway; replacing traffic signals, installing new pavement markings and signage; installing concrete curb, sidewalks; improving new drainage, and installing new highway lighting. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Bergeron Land Development, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2021.

I-275 at the Sunshine Skyway Rest Areas in Manatee and Pinellas Counties: Construction project: Improvements include constructing new rest areas and new parking lots with LED lighting, seawall repairs and extending the seawall at the Manatee County rest area to accommodate a new picnic pavilion.  There will be a short duration shoulder closure on I-275 northbound at the end of the on-ramp from the Manatee County rest area.  This is expected to be in place for one to two hours only, at the beginning of week of July 21 and again during the week of July 28 and will take place off interstate. The Manatee County rest area is closed for renovations. Motorists should use the Pinellas County rest area during this time. The fishing pier will remain open during the closure. I-275 Southbound Ramp to I-75 Northbound (Exit 228): Construction project: Crews are replacing the concrete bridge deck on the southbound I-275 ramp to northbound I-75. The I-275 southbound ramp to northbound I-75 will remain through the summer. Traffic is being detoured north on US 41/S Tamiami Trail to SR 674/E College Avenue in Hillsborough County. A temporary traffic signal has been installed on US 41 at the southbound I-275 exit. This is the community’s chance to tell the Sarasota/Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) how they can improve transportation. Does the region need more cars? bike lanes? trails? buses? There has been a tremendous response to the 2045 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) “Transform Tomorrow” General Survey, with over 1,000 surveys received to date. The responses from this survey will help the Sarasota/Manatee MPO understand the community’s transportation concerns, needs, and desires. It will also help the MPO understand attitudes toward potential solutions, and how those solutions should be prioritized. 

“We are receiving a lot of positive feedback from the survey and comments received from the Transform Tomorrow webpage on our website,” says David Hutchinson, MPO Executive Director. “We value citizen input. It helps us decide how to invest your tax dollars.” 

The purpose of the 2045 LRTP is to develop future transportation facilities in Sarasota and Manatee Counties. The LRTP must consider the full complement of transportation modes – roads, bicycles, pedestrians, trails, transit, parking, railroads and airports. The plan includes at least twenty years and must be updated every five years. The 2045 LRTP must include robust public involvement to shape the final plan.

Bartow– This week is “National Stop on Red Week”, and from Aug. 4 to 10, members of Florida’s Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Coalition will be reminding everyone to STOP on RED including when making a right turn. The coalition, led by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), is a diverse group of stakeholders including federal, state, local, and public partners. The coalition is focused on the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists.

“At the Florida Department of Transportation, safety is our number one priority,” said FDOT State Bicycle Pedestrian Safety Program Manager Trenda McPherson. “The goal of this event is to remind all road users, including drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists to always stop on red. Because safety doesn’t happen by accident!”

FDOT has organized teams to conduct on-street safety outreach. The local effort is occurring August 7^th from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the intersection of US 41 and 53^rd Avenue West.  Other partners participating include the National Coalition for Safer Roads, Manatee County and Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

FDOT offers these tips for reducing intersection crashes:

• When approaching a traffic light, you should ALWAYS be prepared to STOP on RED.
• After stopping, you may turn right on red ONLY if the way is clear of pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists and, there is no sign posted that prohibits right turns on red or an officer directing you otherwise.
• Always SHARE THE ROAD safely.

Bartow, FL – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District One, is holding a public hearing about the Project Development and Environment (PD&E) study for the proposed improvements along SR 70 from Lorraine Road to CR 675 (Waterbury Road), in Manatee County.

The hearing will begin at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at the Risen Savior Lutheran Church located at 14605 59^th Avenue East, Bradenton, Florida.

The hearing will begin with an open house at 5 p.m., followed by a formal presentation and public comment period at 6 p.m. Department staff will be available to discuss the project, receive public input, and answer questions.

This hearing is being held to allow interested persons an opportunity to be informed and provide comments concerning the location; conceptual design alternatives; and the social, economic, and environmental effects of the proposed improvements to SR 70. The purpose of this project is to enhance safety, freight mobility and vehicular traffic flow and operations within the project limits, as well as to accommodate projected traffic demand in the area. The proposed improvements will also improve connectivity to the regional transportation network. The No-Build Alternative, which assumes that no improvements will be made along SR 70, is also an option and will remain a viable alternative throughout the PD&E study.

Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is announcing a new website for citizen engagement with the Florida Multi-use Corridors of Regional Economic Significance (M-CORES) program, www.FloridaMCores.com.

The M-CORES program has multiple goals, including job creation, revitalizing rural communities, and to provide regional connectivity using technology to help enhance quality of life and public safety. During the process, protecting the environment and natural resources will be a priority. The objective of the program is to advance the construction of regional corridors that are intended to accommodate multiple modes of transportation and multiple types of infrastructure including broadband, sewage, water, and electric systems. The Department will form and use a task force for each corridor to make high level recommendations for their respective areas which include:

• Southwest-Central Florida Connector, extending from Collier County
• Suncoast Connector, extending from Citrus County to Jefferson County
• Northern Turnpike Connector, extending from the northern terminus of the Florida Turnpike northwest to the Suncoast Parkway

“We are excited to launch the new website dedicated to communication and collaboration for the proposed corridors. The website is a great asset for sharing the latest information about the corridors and for announcing public meetings,” explains FDOT Secretary Kevin J. Thibault, P.E. “It’s another forum for citizens to share their ideas. Various locations along SR 684 and US 301: Construction project: Crews are installing new highway lighting at various locations along SR 684 from Gulf Drive to 9^th Street W and on US 301 from Tallevast Road to 9^th Street E. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 10:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Expected completion is fall 2019. PowerCore, Inc. is the contractor.

I-275 at the Sunshine Skyway Rest Areas in Manatee and Pinellas Counties: Construction project: Improvements include constructing new rest areas and new parking lots with LED lighting, seawall repairs and extending the seawall at the Manatee County rest area to accommodate a new picnic pavilion.  There will be a short duration shoulder closure on I-275 northbound at the end of the on-ramp from the Manatee County rest area.  This is expected to be in place for one to two hours only, at the beginning of week of July 21 and again during the week of July 28 and will take place off interstate. The Manatee County rest area is closed for renovations. Motorists should use the Pinellas County rest area during this time. The fishing pier will remain open during the closure. Expected completion is spring 2020. David Nelson Construction Company is the contractor. 

I-275 Southbound Ramp to I-75 Northbound (Exit 228): Construction project: Crews are replacing the concrete bridge deck on the southbound I-275 ramp to northbound I-75. The I-275 southbound ramp to northbound I-75 will remain through the summer. Traffic is being detoured north on US 41/S Tamiami Trail to SR 674/E College Avenue in Hillsborough County. A temporary traffic signal has been installed on US 41 at the southbound I-275 exit. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures on the I-275 southbound ramp to I-75 southbound from 9 p.m. each night to 6 a.m. each morning Sunday, August 4 through Saturday, August 10. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures on I-75 northbound and I-75 southbound between Moccasin Wallow Road and just south of the I-275 interchange from 9 p.m. each night to 6 a.m. each morning Sunday, August 4 through Saturday, August 10. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Expected completion is fall 2019. Cone & Graham, Inc. is the contractor.

I-75 at SR 70 Interchange (Exit 217): Construction project: This week, crews will work on widening I-75, the ramps, retaining walls, excavating stormwater ponds, drainage and curbs, installing signage, and working on the bridges over SR 70 and the Braden River.

• Motorists should expect lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from  8:45 p.m. to 6 a.m. (northbound) or 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (southbound) through the duration of the construction.
• Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 70 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
• Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 70 through the duration of the construction.
• Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is late 2021. The contractor is Sacyr Construction USA, LLC.

US 41 from 301 Boulevard to 21^st Avenue: Construction project: Crews are installing concrete traffic separators/directional turn-lanes within the median, resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (not within 600 feet of a signalized intersection). Expected completion is summer 2019. Blacktip Services Incorporated is the contractor.

SR 789 at the Longboat Key Pass Bridge: Construction project: Crews are making structural, electrical and mechanical repairs on the bridge. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sidewalk closures are also expected during construction. Beginning Monday, August 5, and continuing for the next two weeks, there will be extended bridge openings between midnight and 4 a.m. while the contractor is working. The openings are expected to take up to 30 minutes each occurrence. Southern Road & Bridge, LLC is the contractor. Expected completion is late summer 2019.

SR 64 at Rye Road: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-lane roundabout; resurfacing the roadway; improving drainage, and installing new highway lighting and landscaping. A traffic switch has been implemented shifting traffic to the current westbound lanes using temporary crossovers. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the project limits. Rye Road will remain accessible during this time. The speed limit on State Road 64 will be reduced to 45 mph. On Tuesday, August 6, the traffic signal SR 64 and Rye Road will be temporarily deactivated between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. During this time, law enforcement will direct traffic through the intersection. Please use caution and expect possible delays. IBT Construction is the contractor. Expected completion is late 2019.

SR 43 (10^th Street) from 6^th Avenue Drive W to 2^nd Avenue: Construction project: Crews are making improvements to two railroad crossings, improving drainage, constructing sidewalk, and constructing turn lanes on State Road 43 (10^th Street). State Road 43 (10^th Street) between 6^th Avenue Drive W and 2^nd Avenue is tentatively scheduled to open to traffic by Sunday, August 4. Nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to  6 a.m. will occur throughout construction while crews are working. Expected completion is fall 2019. Preferred Materials, Inc., is the contractor.

SARASOTA COUNTY

US 301 from SR 780 (Fruitville Road) to 10^th Street: Construction project: Crews are making median modifications, installing traffic separators, constructing turn-lanes, improving drainage, and constructing sidewalk. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Crews are making drainage improvements on US 301 between Ringling Boulevard and Main Street. During this time, the northbound right lane will be closed. The northbound and southbound turn lanes will become through lanes for traffic. Northbound and southbound left turns from US 301 to Ringling Boulevard and to Main Street are prohibited. Motorists should use caution and pay close attention to changes in traffic patterns. Expected completion is late summer 2019. AJAX Paving Industries of Florida is the contractor.

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota:  Construction project: Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.

• Brick pavers are expected to be installed along US 41 on the west side and on 14th Street.
• Roadway base work is expected at the SW and SE corner of 14th Street.
• New traffic pattern was implemented on 14th Street going east and west. Pay close attention to barrels, pavement markings and traffic lights. Pedestrians need to cross at designated crosswalks and avoid work zones for safety reasons.
• Light pole installation and sidewalk installation expected at14th Street.
• A new traffic pattern on west side of 10th Street is implemented. Travel lanes have been slightly shifted north. There will be only 1 lane going east and 1 lane going west during the temporary phase.
• New boat ramp driveway is open. Use caution as the wider driveway is intended for both entering and exiting traffic
• Pedestrian crossings on 14th Street/Imperial Drive at US 41 have been reconfigured around the work zone. Pedestrians are advised to use the designated sidewalks and cross walks.
• Pedestrian crosswalks and stop bar on the south bound lanes at 14th Street are marked. For the safety of pedestrians, motorists are urged to stop at the designated stop bar.
• Centennial Park Boat Ramp driveway on 10th Street will be closed. Motorists can access the boat ramp via the US 41 entrance. Northbound left turn lane from US 41 into the boat ramp is available.
• The traffic pattern will be limited to right turn in/out for 11th, 12th and 13th Street. Traveling southbound and northbound direction left turns are not permitted at 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th Streets. Motorists are advised to follow the posted signs.
• Temporary detour route in effect. Use Cocoanut Avenue as alternate route to access 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th Street. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour route and seek an alternate route while traveling in this area.

Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a 6-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED street lights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is spring 2020. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.

US 41 from Hospital Road to River Road: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing new turn-lanes, driveway connections, and working in the medians. Expect intermittent north and southbound daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, August 9. Use caution and expect possible delays.

US 41 from McIntosh Road to Beneva Road: Construction project: Crews are constructing sidewalk and bicycle lanes, improving drainage, reconstructing the US 41 southbound bridge over Catfish Creek south of Central Sarasota Parkway, installing highway lighting, upgrading signals, and installing new signing and pavement markings.

• Northbound nighttime/overnight lane closures may occur between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
• Southbound nighttime/overnight lane closures may occur between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 a.m.
• The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph within the construction zone.

Motorists should use caution and obey the posted speed limit. Expected completion is fall 2019. The contractor is Morrison-Cobalt JV.

US 41 from Tuscola Boulevard to Ortiz Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-use path; installing bus pads and shelters; improving drainage; constructing/replacing sidewalk; installing guardrail and highway lighting, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Daytime lane closures between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. are possible. Lane closures within 600 feet of signalized intersections are not permitted between 5:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Florida Safety Contractors, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is summer 2019. 

US 41 (Venice Bypass) from Center Road from to Gulf Coast Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard to a six-lane highway; replacing traffic signals, installing new pavement markings and signage; installing concrete curb, sidewalks; improving new drainage, and installing new highway lighting. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Bergeron Land Development, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2021.

• Beginning Tuesday, May 28 at 7 a.m., Seaboard Avenue will be closed to thru traffic while workers complete drainage improvements. Motorists should use Spur Street as a detour route. Traffic is anticipated to switch back to Seaboard Avenue on Tuesday, August 13.  
• Expect northbound and southbound nighttime lane closures on US 41 between Center Road and Gulf Coast Boulevard from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Sunday, August 4 through Thursday, August 15.
• Expect a new change in traffic pattern for northbound and southbound traffic on US 41 between Center Road and Gulf Coast Boulevard beginning Wednesday, August 14.

SR 776 (Indiana Avenue) at CR 777 (Dearborn Street): Construction project: Crews are making pedestrian and ADA improvements, vehicle detection overhead traffic signal modifications, sidewalk enhancements and installing highway lighting. Expect northbound lane closures from 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. and southbound lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Expected completion is summer 2019. Contact Network LLC is the contractor.

• Traffic northbound on US 41 to westbound SR 43 (10th Street) will make a left-turn onto 7th Street W and continue to Business US 41 (8th Avenue W). Make a right-turn onto Business US 41 (8th Avenue W) and then make a left-turn on SR 43 (10th Street) to continue west.
• Traffic southbound on US 41 to eastbound SR 43 (10th Street) will make a right-turn onto 17th Street W and continue to Business US 41 (8th Avenue W). Make a left-turn onto Business US 41 (8th Avenue W) and then make right-turn onto SR 43 (10th Street) to continue east until the road closure at 6th Avenue Drive W. Otherwise, motorists will continue south on US 41 and exit at 10th Street W to continue eastbound as normal.  
• Traffic eastbound on 10th Street will make a left-turn onto Business US 41 (8th Avenue W) and continue to 17th Street W. Make a right-turn onto 17th Street W and continue to US 41. Make a right-turn onto southbound US 41 and exit at SR 43 (10th Street) to continue east.
• Traffic westbound on 10th Street will merge onto US 41 northbound and continue to 17th Street W. Make a left-turn onto 17th Street W and continue to Business US 41 (8th Avenue W). Make a left-turn onto Business US 41 (8th Avenue W) and continue to 10th Street. Make a right-turn onto 10th Street to continue west.

• Lane closures are expected on US 41 just north and north of 10^th Street for installation of drainage pipe across US 41 south of 10^th Street. Closures are expected during daytime hours from 9am to 4pm. Expect equipment and construction personnel working close to the travel lanes.

• Pedestrian crossings on 14^th Street/Imperial Drive at US 41 have been reconfigured around the work zone. Pedestrians are advised to use the designated sidewalks and cross walks.
• Pedestrian crosswalks and stop bar on the south bound lanes at 14^th Street are marked. For the safety of pedestrians, motorists are urged to stop at the designated stop bar.
• Centennial Park Boat Ramp driveway on 10^th Street will be closed. Motorists can access the boat ramp via the US 41 entrance. Northbound left turn lane from US 41 into the boat ramp is available.
• The traffic pattern will be limited to right turn in/out for 11^th, 12^th and 13^th Street. Traveling southbound and northbound direction left turns are not permitted at 11^th, 12^th, 13^th and 14^th Streets. Motorists are advised to follow the posted signs.
• Temporary detour route in effect. Use Cocoanut Avenue as alternate route to access 12^th, 13^th, 14^th and 15^th Street. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour route and seek an alternate route while traveling in this area.

Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a 6-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10^th Street and 14^th Street, pedestrian signals, LED street lights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. US 41 from Hospital Road to River Road: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing new turn-lanes, driveway connections, and working in the medians. Expect intermittent north and southbound daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, August 2. Use caution and expect possible delays.

US 41 from McIntosh Road to Beneva Road: Construction project: Crews are constructing sidewalk and bicycle lanes, improving drainage, reconstructing the US 41 southbound bridge over Catfish Creek south of Central Sarasota Parkway, installing highway lighting, upgrading signals, and installing new signing and pavement markings.

• Northbound nighttime/overnight lane closures may occur between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
• Southbound nighttime/overnight lane closures may occur between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 a.m.

Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Bergeron Land Development, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2021.

• Beginning Tuesday, May 28 at 7 a.m., Seaboard Avenue will be closed to thru traffic while workers complete drainage improvements. Motorists should use Spur Street as a detour route. Seaboard Avenue is anticipated be closed for a total of 54 days.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District One, is holding a public hearing for the preferred improvements to, and between, the intersections of US 41 at Dr. Martin Luther King (MLK) Jr. Way and US 41 at Myrtle Street in the City of Sarasota. We invite you to attend the hearing on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at the Robert L. Taylor Community Complex building at 1845 34^th Street, Sarasota, Florida 34234. A project location map is included below for your reference.

The hearing will begin with an open house at 5 p.m. and follow with a formal presentation and public comment period at 6 p.m. People attending the hearing may review project displays and aerial photographs, and speak one-on-one with project team members about proposed improvements to the study corridor. 

This hearing is being held to allow interested persons an opportunity to be informed and provide comments concerning the location; conceptual design alternatives; and the social, economic, and environmental effects of the proposed improvements to US 41. The purpose of this project is to enhance safety, non-motorized connectivity, and access, as well as vehicular traffic flow and operations, between residences and schools of the northern Downtown Sarasota area and the Bayfront area.. The proposed improvements are similar to improvements that have been identified at other intersections along US 41 that are intended to improve traffic flow and enhance safety. The No-Build Alternative, which assumes that no improvements will be made along US 41, is also an option and will remain a viable alternative throughout the PD&E study.

I-275 at the Sunshine Skyway Rest Areas in Manatee and Pinellas Counties: Construction project: Improvements include constructing new rest areas and new parking lots with LED lighting, seawall repairs and extending the seawall at the Manatee County rest area to accommodate a new picnic pavilion. The Manatee County rest area is closed for renovations. Motorists should use the Pinellas County rest area during this time. The fishing pier will remain open during the closure. Expected completion is spring 2020. David Nelson Construction Company is the contractor. 

I-275 Southbound Ramp to I-75 Northbound (Exit 228): Construction project: Crews are replacing the concrete bridge deck on the southbound I-275 ramp to northbound I-75. The I-275 southbound ramp to northbound I-75 will remain through the summer. Traffic is being detoured north on US 41/S Tamiami Trail to SR 674/E College Avenue in Hillsborough County. A temporary traffic signal has been installed on US 41 at the southbound I-275 exit. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures on the I-275 southbound ramp to I-75 southbound from 9 p.m. each night to 6 a.m. each morning Sunday, July 14 through Saturday, July 20. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures on I-75 northbound and I-75 southbound between Moccasin Wallow Road and just south of the I-275 interchange from 9 p.m. each night to 6 a.m. each morning Sunday, July 14 through Saturday, July 20. I-75 at SR 70 Interchange (Exit 217): Construction project: This week, crews will work on widening I-75, the ramps, retaining walls, SR 70 drainage and curbs, installing signage, and working on the bridges over SR 70 and the Braden River.

• SR 70 will have two lanes closed in each direction beginning at 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. each evening starting Sunday, July 14th through Friday, July 19th.  I-75 northbound and southbound off-ramps to SR 70 will be reduced to one lane each evening from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Motorists should expect lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8:45 p.m. to 6 a.m. (northbound) or 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (southbound) through the duration of the construction.
• Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 70 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
• Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 70 through the duration of the construction.
• Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

US 41 from 301 Boulevard to 21^st Avenue: Construction project: Crews are installing concrete traffic separators/directional turn-lanes within the median, resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (not within 600 feet of a signalized intersection). The northbound outside lane will be closed from 32^nd Avenue to 30^th Avenue for approximately two weeks while crews complete drainage work. Expected completion is summer 2019. Blacktip Services Incorporated is the contractor.

SR 789 at the Longboat Key Pass Bridge: Construction project: Crews are making structural, electrical and mechanical repairs on the bridge. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sidewalk closures are also expected during construction. Southern Road & Bridge, LLC is the contractor. Expected completion is late summer 2019.

SR 64 at Rye Road: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-lane roundabout; resurfacing the roadway; improving drainage, and installing new highway lighting and landscaping. A traffic switch has been implemented shifting traffic to the current westbound lanes using temporary crossovers. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the project limits. Rye Road will remain accessible during this time. The speed limit on State Road 64 will be reduced to 45 mph. IBT Construction is the contractor. Expected completion is late 2019.

SR 43 (10^th Street) from 6^th Avenue Drive W to 2^nd Avenue: Construction project: Crews are making improvements to two railroad crossings, improving drainage, constructing sidewalk, and constructing turn lanes on State Road 43 (10^th Street). State Road 43 (10^th Street) between 6^th Avenue Drive W and 2^nd Avenue closed to traffic overnight Thursday, June 13/early Friday, June 14 and remain closed for approximately 70 days while crews are working.

• Traffic northbound on US 41 to westbound SR 43 (10th Street) will make a left-turn onto 7th Street W and continue to Business US 41 (8th Avenue W). Make a right-turn onto Business US 41 (8th Avenue W) and then make a left-turn on SR 43 (10th Street) to continue west.
• Traffic southbound on US 41 to eastbound SR 43 (10th Street) will make a right-turn onto 17th Street W and continue to Business US 41 (8th Avenue W). Make a left-turn onto Business US 41 (8th Avenue W) and then make right-turn onto SR 43 (10th Street) to continue east until the road closure at 6th Avenue Drive W. Otherwise, motorists will continue south on US 41 and exit at 10th Street W to continue eastbound as normal.  
• Traffic eastbound on 10th Street will make a left-turn onto Business US 41 (8th Avenue W) and continue to 17th Street W. Make a right-turn onto 17th Street W and continue to US 41. Make a right-turn onto southbound US 41 and exit at SR 43 (10th Street) to continue east.
• Traffic westbound on 10th Street will merge onto US 41 northbound and continue to 17th Street W. Make a left-turn onto 17th Street W and continue to Business US 41 (8th Avenue W). Make a left-turn onto Business US 41 (8th Avenue W) and continue to 10th Street. Make a right-turn onto 10th Street to continue west.

Nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. will occur throughout construction while crews are working. Expected completion is fall 2019. Preferred Materials, Inc., is the contractor.

SARASOTA COUNTY

Various locations along SR 684 and US 301: Construction project: Crews are installing new highway lighting at various locations along SR 684 from Gulf Drive to 9^th Street W and on US 301 from Tallevast Road to 9^th Street E. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 10:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Expected completion is fall 2019. PowerCore, Inc. is the contractor.

I-275 at the Sunshine Skyway Rest Areas in Manatee and Pinellas Counties: Construction project: Improvements include constructing new rest areas and new parking lots with LED lighting, seawall repairs and extending the seawall at the Manatee County rest area to accommodate a new picnic pavilion. The Manatee County rest area is closed for renovations. Motorists should use the Pinellas County rest area during this time. The fishing pier will remain open during the closure. Expected completion is spring 2020. David Nelson Construction Company is the contractor. 

I-275 Southbound Ramp to I-75 Northbound (Exit 228): Construction project: Crews are replacing the concrete bridge deck on the southbound I-275 ramp to northbound I-75. The I-275 southbound ramp to northbound I-75 will remain through the summer. Traffic is being detoured north on US 41/S Tamiami Trail to SR 674/E College Avenue in Hillsborough County. A temporary traffic signal has been installed on US 41 at the southbound I-275 exit. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures on the I-275 southbound ramp to I-75 southbound from 9 p.m. each night to 6 a.m. each morning Sunday, July 7 through Saturday, July 13. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures on I-75 northbound and I-75 southbound between Moccasin Wallow Road and just south of the I-275 interchange from 9 p.m. each night to 6 a.m. each morning Sunday, July 7 through Saturday, July 13. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Expected completion is fall 2019. Cone & Graham, Inc. is the contractor.

I-75 at SR 70 Interchange (Exit 217): Construction project: This week, crews will work on widening I-75, the ramps, retaining walls, SR 70 drainage and curbs, installing signage, and working on the bridges over SR 70 and the Braden River.

• SR 70 westbound will be closed during the overnight hours from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10th and Thursday, July 11th underneath I-75 while crews install interstate bridge beams; weather permitting.  Beginning at 8 p.m. each evening, crews will close two lanes on SR 70 westbound, with the total closure beginning at 11 p.m.  SR 70 eastbound will have two lanes closed beginning at 8 p.m. each evening but will remain open.  I-75 northbound and southbound off-ramps to SR 70 will be reduced to one lane each evening from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
• Motorists wishing to travel SR 70 westbound are advised take I-75 northbound to Exit 220/SR 64 and return to the interstate southbound and exit at Exit 217/SR 70; or, use local routes.
• Motorists should expect lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8:45 p.m. to 6 a.m. (northbound) or 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (southbound) through the duration of the construction.
• Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 70 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
• Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 70 through the duration of the construction.
• Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is late 2021. The contractor is Sacyr Construction USA, LLC.

US 41 from 301 Boulevard to 21^st Avenue: Construction project: Crews are installing concrete traffic separators/directional turn-lanes within the median, resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (not within 600 feet of a signalized intersection). The northbound outside lane will be closed from 32^nd Avenue to 30^th Avenue for approximately two weeks while crews complete drainage work. Expected completion is summer 2019. Blacktip Services Incorporated is the contractor.

SR 789 at the Longboat Key Pass Bridge: Construction project: Crews are making structural, electrical and mechanical repairs on the bridge. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sidewalk closures are also expected during construction. Southern Road & Bridge, LLC is the contractor. Expected completion is late summer 2019.

SR 64 at Rye Road: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-lane roundabout; resurfacing the roadway; improving drainage, and installing new highway lighting and landscaping. A traffic switch has been implemented shifting traffic to the current westbound lanes using temporary crossovers. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the project limits. Rye Road will remain accessible during this time. The speed limit on State Road 64 will be reduced to 45 mph. IBT Construction is the contractor. Expected completion is late 2019.

SR 43 (10^th Street) from 6^th Avenue Drive W to 2^nd Avenue: Construction project: Crews are making improvements to two railroad crossings, improving drainage, constructing sidewalk, and constructing turn lanes on State Road 43 (10^th Street). State Road 43 (10^th Street) between 6^th Avenue Drive W and 2^nd Avenue closed to traffic overnight Thursday, June 13/early Friday, June 14 and remain closed for approximately 70 days while crews are working.

• Traffic northbound on US 41 to westbound SR 43 (10th Street) will make a left-turn onto 7th Street W and continue to Business US 41 (8th Avenue W). Make a right-turn onto Business US 41 (8th Avenue W) and then make a left-turn on SR 43 (10th Street) to continue west.
• Traffic southbound on US 41 to eastbound SR 43 (10th Street) will make a right-turn onto 17th Street W and continue to Business US 41 (8th Avenue W). Make a left-turn onto Business US 41 (8th Avenue W) and then make right-turn onto SR 43 (10th Street) to continue east until the road closure at 6th Avenue Drive W. Otherwise, motorists will continue south on US 41 and exit at 10th Street W to continue eastbound as normal.  
• Traffic eastbound on 10th Street will make a left-turn onto Business US 41 (8th Avenue W) and continue to 17th Street W. Make a right-turn onto 17th Street W and continue to US 41. Make a right-turn onto southbound US 41 and exit at SR 43 (10th Street) to continue east.
• Traffic westbound on 10th Street will merge onto US 41 northbound and continue to 17th Street W. Make a left-turn onto 17th Street W and continue to Business US 41 (8th Avenue W). Make a left-turn onto Business US 41 (8th Avenue W) and continue to 10th Street. Make a right-turn onto 10th Street to continue west.

Nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. will occur throughout construction while crews are working. Expected completion is fall 2019. Preferred Materials, Inc., is the contractor.

SARASOTA COUNTY

Various locations along US 41, US 19 and SR 780: Construction project: Crews are installing highway lighting and constructing sidewalks at various locations along US 41, US 19 and SR 780 in Manatee and Sarasota Counties. US 301 from SR 780 (Fruitville Road) to 10^th Street: Construction project: Crews are making median modifications, installing traffic separators, constructing turn-lanes, improving drainage, and constructing sidewalk. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Crews are making drainage improvements on US 301between Ringling Boulevard and Main Street. During this time, the northbound right lane will be closed. The northbound and southbound turn lanes will become through lanes for traffic. Northbound and southbound left turns from US 301 to Ringling Boulevard and to Main Street are prohibited. Motorists should use caution and pay close attention to changes in traffic patterns. Expected completion is late summer 2019. AJAX Paving Industries of Florida is the contractor.

US 41 from Salford Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Salford Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard to a six-lane highway; resurfacing the roadway; improving drainage; constructing sidewalk, and installing highway lighting. Russell Engineering, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is early summer 2019.

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota:  Construction project: Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.

• Contractor will be connecting new waterlines at 9th Street and 10th Street on July 10th. There will be waterline shut down for the night of July 10th.
• Waterline tie in at 9th Street is expected the night of July 10th. Expect light construction equipment and noise from backup alarms, power tools and pumps. Work is expected from 8pm to 6am.
• 9th Street is scheduled to be closed for through traffic starting July 8th in preparation for the waterline tie in.
• 10th Street is scheduled to be closed end of next week for 2 days for installation of drainage pipe. Motorists can use Boulevard of the Arts as alternate route.
• New traffic pattern was implemented on 14th Street going east and west. Pay close attention to barrels, pavement markings and traffic lights. Pedestrians need to cross at designated crosswalks and avoid work zones for safety reasons.
• A new traffic pattern on west side of 10th Street is implemented. Travel lanes have been slightly shifted north. There will be only 1 lane going east and 1 lane going west during the temporary phase.
• New boat ramp driveway is open. Use caution as the wider driveway is intended for both entering and exiting traffic
• Pedestrian crossings on 14th Street/Imperial Drive at US 41 have been reconfigured around the work zone. Pedestrians are advised to use the designated sidewalks and cross walks.
• Pedestrian crosswalks and stop bar on the south bound lanes at 14th Street are marked. For the safety of pedestrians, motorists are urged to stop at the designated stop bar.
• Centennial Park Boat Ramp driveway on 10th Street will be closed. Motorists can access the boat ramp via the US 41 entrance. Northbound left turn lane from US 41 into the boat ramp is available.
• The traffic pattern will be limited to right turn in/out for 11th, 12th and 13th Street. Traveling southbound and northbound direction left turns are not permitted at 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th Streets. Motorists are advised to follow the posted signs.
• Temporary detour route in effect. Use Cocoanut Avenue as alternate route to access 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th Street. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour route and seek an alternate route while traveling in this area.

Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a 6-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED street lights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is spring 2020. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.

US 41 from Hospital Road to River Road: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing new turn-lanes, driveway connections, and working in the medians. Expect intermittent north and southbound daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, July 26. Use caution and expect possible delays.

US 41 from McIntosh Road to Beneva Road: Construction project: Crews are constructing sidewalk and bicycle lanes, improving drainage, reconstructing the US 41 southbound bridge over Catfish Creek south of Central Sarasota Parkway, installing highway lighting, upgrading signals, and installing new signing and pavement markings.

• Northbound nighttime/overnight lane closures may occur between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
• Southbound nighttime/overnight lane closures may occur between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 a.m.
• The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph within the construction zone.

Motorists should use caution and obey the posted speed limit. Expected completion is fall 2019. The contractor is Morrison-Cobalt JV.

US 41 from Tuscola Boulevard to Ortiz Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-use path; installing bus pads and shelters; improving drainage; constructing/replacing sidewalk; installing guardrail and highway lighting, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Daytime lane closures between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. are possible. Lane closures within 600 feet of signalized intersections are not permitted between 5:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Florida Safety Contractors, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is summer 2019. 

US 41 (Venice Bypass) from Center Road from to Gulf Coast Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard to a six-lane highway; replacing traffic signals, installing new pavement markings and signage; installing concrete curb, sidewalks; improving new drainage, and installing new highway lighting. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Bergeron Land Development, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2021.

• Beginning Tuesday, May 28 at 7 a.m., Seaboard Avenue will be closed to thru traffic while workers complete drainage improvements. Motorists should use Spur Street as a detour route. Seaboard Avenue is anticipated be closed for a total of 54 days.

SR 776 (Indiana Avenue) at CR 777 (Dearborn Street): Construction project: Crews are making pedestrian and ADA improvements, vehicle detection overhead traffic signal modifications, sidewalk enhancements and installing highway lighting. Expect northbound lane closures from 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. and southbound lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Expected completion is summer 2019. Contact Network LLC is the contractor.

SR 72 at various locations: Construction project: Crews are installing highway lighting and constructing sidewalk along SR 72 at Frontage Road; Gantt Road; Honore Avenue; McIntosh Road; Sawyer Road; Beneva Road; Lockwood Ridge Road; Swift Road, Gateway Avenue, and at the Sarasota Pavilion entrance. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Expected completion is late summer 2019. The contractor is Florida Safety Contractors, Inc.

New program offers mobile app and employer services

Bartow, FL – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District One is launching a new program called, The Commute Connector Program. The program will provide Commuters with a new resource for information on transportation options to get to work. Commute Connector focuses on improving shared mobility across Southwest Florida. The program promotes carpooling, vanpooling, transit, biking, walking and even telecommuting as alternatives to driving alone to work. The effort is designed to expand access to jobs and reduce traffic congestion throughout the region.

Commuters can use a free mobile app to connect to each other to form carpool and vanpool groups, as well as find information about available transit service. By recording “green” trips in the mobile app, commuters can earn rewards, from coupons to monthly drawings. To find the app in the iOS or Google Play store, simply search for “Commute Connector.” The system can also be accessed on a desktop computer by visiting www.CommuteConnector.com. 

In addition to this commuter service, Commute Connector provides free consultations to employers to set up commuter benefit programs. Examples of how companies can encourage their workforce to take advantage of transportation options include offering a carpool/vanpool parking program, providing transit passes or launching a telecommute program.

The Commute Connector team is available to assist employers with the development and launch of these types of programs. Additionally, the program helps employers in the following ways:

US 301 from SR 780 (Fruitville Road) to 10^th Street: Construction project: Crews are making median modifications, installing traffic separators, constructing turn-lanes, improving drainage, and constructing sidewalk. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Crews are making drainage improvements on US 301between Ringling Boulevard and Main Street. During this time, the northbound right lane will be closed. The northbound and southbound turn lanes will become through lanes for traffic. US 41 from Salford Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Salford Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard to a six-lane highway; resurfacing the roadway; improving drainage; constructing sidewalk, and installing highway lighting. Russell Engineering, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is early summer 2019.

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota: Construction project: Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.

• Construction operations will be shutdown starting June 28th thru July 7th to accommodate the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix boat races. Construction activities will resume on Monday July 8th.
• Contractor personnel are expected to be onsite periodically for monitoring the equipment and traffic control devices during the shutdown period.
• Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix organizers are expected to shutdown 10th Street on the west side for their events, end of next week.
• New traffic pattern was implemented on 14th Street going east and west. Pay close attention to barrels, pavement markings and traffic lights. Pedestrians need to cross at designated crosswalks and avoid work zones for safety reasons.
• A new traffic pattern on west side of 10th Street is implemented. Travel lanes have been slightly shifted north. There will be only 1 lane going east and 1 lane going west during the temporary phase.
• New boat ramp driveway is open. Use caution as the wider driveway is intended for both entering and exiting traffic
• Pedestrian crossings on 14th Street/Imperial Drive at US 41 have been reconfigured around the work zone. Pedestrians are advised to use the designated sidewalks and cross walks.
• Pedestrian crosswalks and stop bar on the south bound lanes at 14th Street are marked. For the safety of pedestrians, motorists are urged to stop at the designated stop bar.
• Centennial Park Boat Ramp driveway on 10th Street will be closed. Motorists can access the boat ramp via the US 41 entrance. Northbound left turn lane from US 41 into the boat ramp is available.
• The traffic pattern will be limited to right turn in/out for 11th, 12th and 13th Street. Traveling southbound and northbound direction left turns are not permitted at 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th Streets. Motorists are advised to follow the posted signs.
• Temporary detour route in effect. Use Cocoanut Avenue as alternate route to access 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th Street. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour route and seek an alternate route while traveling in this area

Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

US 41 from Hospital Road to River Road: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing new turn-lanes, driveway connections, and working in the medians. Expect intermittent north and southbound daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday,      July 26. Use caution and expect possible delays.

US 41 from McIntosh Road to Beneva Road: Construction project: Crews are constructing sidewalk and bicycle lanes, improving drainage, reconstructing the US 41 southbound bridge over Catfish Creek south of Central Sarasota Parkway, installing highway lighting, upgrading signals, and installing new signing and pavement markings.

• Northbound nighttime/overnight lane closures may occur between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
• Southbound nighttime/overnight lane closures may occur between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 a.m.
• The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph within the construction zone.

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. – Governor Ron DeSantis announced today the signing of his “Bold Vision for a Brighter Future” budget which will provide $10.8 billion in funding for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), including $9.7 billion in the Department’s Work Program. This funding allows FDOT to make critical investments in Florida’s transportation system.

Governor DeSantis said, “By signing the Bold Vision for a Brighter Future budget, the Florida Department of Transportation will continue their efforts to enhance safety for motorists by relieving congestion on our roadways and implementing technology which will improve and modernize Florida’s infrastructure. This investment reflects the dedication of addressing one of the most pressing issues facing our state. I am committed to making life better for all residents and visitors of our great state and the Bold Vision for a Brighter Future budget will continue to make Florida a leader in transportation systems.”

Governor DeSantis’ Fiscal Year 2019-2020 budget transportation investments include:

• $3.8 billion to increase system-wide infrastructure capacity which includes 125.7 new lane miles
• $2.7 billion for highway construction
• $160.8 million in seaport infrastructure enhancements
• $278 million for aviation improvements
• $1.1 billion for scheduled repairs of 84 bridges and replacement of 22 bridges
• $1.1 billion for maintenance and operation of existing facilities
• $668.1 million for transit program advancements
• $230.5 million for additional safety initiatives

I-275 at the Sunshine Skyway Rest Areas in Manatee and Pinellas Counties: Construction project: Improvements include constructing new rest areas and new parking lots with LED lighting, seawall repairs and extending the seawall at the Manatee County rest area to accommodate a new picnic pavilion. The Manatee County rest area is closed for renovations. Motorists should use the Pinellas County rest area during this time. The fishing piers will remain open during the closure; however, there will be periodic short intermittent flagging operations along the fishing pier access road on the Manatee side. Expected completion is spring 2020. David Nelson Construction Company is the contractor. 

I-275 Southbound Ramp to I-75 Northbound (Exit 228): Construction project: Crews are replacing the concrete bridge deck on the southbound I-275 ramp to northbound I-75. The I-275 southbound ramp to northbound I-75 will remain through the summer. Traffic is being detoured north on US 41/S Tamiami Trail to SR 674/E College Avenue in Hillsborough County. A temporary traffic signal has been installed on US 41 at the southbound I-275 exit. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures on the I-275 southbound ramp to I-75 southbound from 9 p.m. each night to 6 a.m. each morning Monday, June 24 through Friday, June 28. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures on I-75 northbound and I-75 southbound between Moccasin Wallow Road and just south of the I-275 interchange from 9 p.m. each night to 6 a.m. each morning Monday, June 24 through Friday, June 28. I-75 at SR 70 Interchange (Exit 217): Construction project: This week, crews will work on widening I-75, the ramps, retaining walls, SR 70 drainage and curbs, installing signage, and working on the bridge the Braden River.

• Motorists should expect lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8:45 p.m. to 6 a.m. (northbound) or 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (southbound) through the duration of the construction.
• Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 70 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
• Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 70 through the duration of the construction.
• Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

US 41 from 301 Boulevard to 21^st Avenue: Construction project: Crews are installing concrete traffic separators/directional turn-lanes within the median, resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (not within 600 feet of a signalized intersection). The northbound outside lane will be closed from 32^nd Avenue to 30^th Avenue for approximately two weeks while crews complete drainage work. Expected completion is summer 2019. Blacktip Services Incorporated is the contractor.

SR 789 at the Longboat Key Pass Bridge: Construction project: Crews are making structural, electrical and mechanical repairs on the bridge. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sidewalk closures are also expected during construction. Southern Road & Bridge, LLC is the contractor. Expected completion is late summer 2019.

SR 64 at Rye Road: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-lane roundabout; resurfacing the roadway; improving drainage, and installing new highway lighting and landscaping. A traffic switch has been implemented shifting traffic to the current westbound lanes using temporary crossovers. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the project limits. Rye Road will remain accessible during this time. The speed limit on State Road 64 will be reduced to 45 mph. IBT Construction is the contractor. Expected completion is late 2019.

SR 43 (10^th Street) from 6^th Avenue Drive W to 2^nd Avenue: Construction project: Crews are making improvements to two railroad crossings, improving drainage, constructing sidewalk, and constructing turn lanes on State Road 43 (10^th Street). State Road 43 (10^th Street) between 6^th Avenue Drive W and 2^nd Avenue closed to traffic overnight Thursday, June 13/early Friday, June 14 and remain closed for approximately 70 days while crews are working.

• Traffic northbound on US 41 to westbound SR 43 (10th Street) will make a left-turn onto 7th Street W and continue to Business US 41 (8th Avenue W). Make a right-turn onto Business US 41 (8th Avenue W) and then make a left-turn on SR 43 (10th Street) to continue west.
• Traffic southbound on US 41 to eastbound SR 43 (10th Street) will make a right-turn onto 17th Street W and continue to Business US 41 (8th Avenue W). Make a left-turn onto Business US 41 (8th Avenue W) and then make right-turn onto SR 43 (10th Street) to continue east until the road closure at 6th Avenue Drive W. Otherwise, motorists will continue south on US 41 and exit at 10th Street W to continue eastbound as normal.  
• Traffic eastbound on 10th Street will make a left-turn onto Business US 41 (8th Avenue W) and continue to 17th Street W. Make a right-turn onto 17th Street W and continue to US 41. Make a right-turn onto southbound US 41 and exit at SR 43 (10th Street) to continue east.
• Traffic westbound on 10th Street will merge onto US 41 northbound and continue to 17th Street W. Make a left-turn onto 17th Street W and continue to Business US 41 (8th Avenue W). Make a left-turn onto Business US 41 (8th Avenue W) and continue to 10th Street. Make a right-turn onto 10th Street to continue west.

• Installation of brick pavers is expected along the west side of US 41.
• Installation of traffic separators on the western edge of the current travel lanes is expected. Use caution as crews work close to the active travel lanes.
• Installation of drainage structures and road base work at the SW corner of 10th Street and along 10th Street on the south side.
• A new traffic pattern on west side of 10th Street is implemented. Travel lanes have been slightly shifted north. There will be only 1 lane going east and 1 lane going west during the temporary phase.

I-275 at the Sunshine Skyway Rest Areas in Manatee and Pinellas Counties: Construction project: Improvements include constructing new rest areas and new parking lots with LED lighting, seawall repairs and extending the seawall at the Manatee County rest area to accommodate a new picnic pavilion. Traffic is being detoured north on US 41/S Tamiami Trail to SR 674/E College Avenue in Hillsborough County. A temporary traffic signal has been installed on US 41 at the southbound I-275 exit. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures on the I-275 southbound ramp to I-75 southbound from 9 p.m. each night to 6 a.m. each morning Monday, June 17 through Friday, June 21. • During the overnight hours between Monday, June 17th and the morning of Tuesday, June 18th, the I-75 northbound off-ramp to SR 70 (Exit 217) will be shifted about 1-mile to the south.  The new exit ramp begins immediately north of Linger Lodge Road overpass.  Signs will be present to inform motorists. If weather conditions prohibit the ramp work, the work will be shifted to Tuesday night into the morning of Wednesday, June 19th.
• During the overnight hours between Monday, June 17th and the morning of Tuesday, June 18th, the I-75 northbound off-ramp to SR 70 (Exit 217) will be closed while crews work on opening the new ramp which will be shifted about 1-mile to the south.  Motorists travelling northbound I-75 wishing to exit at Exit 217/SR 70 should either exit at Exit 213/University Parkway and use local routes; or, continue to Exit 220/SR 64 returning to I-75 and exit at Exit 217/SR 70.  If weather conditions prohibit the ramp work, the work will be shifted to Tuesday night into the morning of Wednesday, June 19th.

US 41 from 301 Boulevard to 21^st Avenue: Construction project: Crews are installing concrete traffic separators/directional turn-lanes within the median, resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (not within 600 feet of a signalized intersection). The northbound outside lane will be closed from 32^nd Avenue to 30^th Avenue for approximately two weeks while crews complete drainage work. Expected completion is summer 2019. Blacktip Services Incorporated is the contractor.

SR 789 at the Longboat Key Pass Bridge: Construction project: Crews are making structural, electrical and mechanical repairs on the bridge. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sidewalk closures are also expected during construction. Southern Road & Bridge, LLC is the contractor. Expected completion is late summer 2019.

SR 70 at Seminole Gulf Railways Railroad crossing in Oneco: Construction project: Crews are upgrading the tracks and roadway at the rail crossing.  This week, crews will be performing work on the railroad tracks and crossing sub-structure. 

• The improvements require a total closure of SR 70; therefore, SR 70 will be closed to through traffic at the rail crossing from Saturday, June 8th through Friday, June 21st. 
• East of the rail crossing, SR 70 will be open to local traffic only from US 301 to 18th St Boulevard E.
• West of the rail crossing, SR 70 will be open to local traffic only from US 41/14th Street W to 17th Street Court E. 
• FDOT urge motorists to follow the posted detour or identify alternate routes. The posted detour for SR 70 westbound is SR 70 to US 301 to 63rd Avenue E to 14th Street W to SR 70.  For SR 70 eastbound traffic, follow SR 70 to 14th Street W to 63rd Avenue E to US 301 to SR 70 eastbound. 

The contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC. Expected completion is June 21, 2019; weather permitting.

SR 64 at Rye Road: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-lane roundabout; resurfacing the roadway; improving drainage, and installing new highway lighting and landscaping. A traffic switch has been implemented shifting traffic to the current westbound lanes using temporary crossovers. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the project limits. Rye Road will remain accessible during this time. The speed limit on State Road 64 will be reduced to 45 mph. IBT Construction is the contractor. Expected completion is late 2019.

SR 43 (10^th Street) from 6^th Avenue Drive W to 2^nd Avenue: Construction project: Crews are making improvements to two railroad crossings, improving drainage, constructing sidewalk, and constructing turn lanes on State Road 43 (10^th Street). State Road 43 (10^th Street) between 6^th Avenue Drive W and 2^nd Avenue will close to traffic overnight Thursday, June 13/early Friday, June 14 and remain closed for approximately 70 days while crews are working.

• Traffic northbound on US 41 to westbound SR 43 (10th Street) will make a left-turn onto 7th Street W and continue to Business US 41 (8th Avenue W). Make a right-turn onto Business US 41 (8th Avenue W) and then make a left-turn on SR 43 (10th Street) to continue west.
• Traffic southbound on US 41 to eastbound SR 43 (10th Street) will make a right-turn onto 17th Street W and continue to Business US 41 (8th Avenue W). Make a left-turn onto Business US 41 (8th Avenue W) and then make right-turn onto SR 43 (10th Street) to continue east until the road closure at 6th Avenue Drive W. Otherwise, motorists will continue south on US 41 and exit at 10th Street W to continue eastbound as normal.  
• Traffic eastbound on 10th Street will make a left-turn onto Business US 41 (8th Avenue W) and continue to 17th Street W. Make a right-turn onto 17th Street W and continue to US 41. Make a right-turn onto southbound US 41 and exit at SR 43 (10th Street) to continue east.
• Traffic westbound on 10th Street will merge onto US 41 northbound and continue to 17th Street W. Make a left-turn onto 17th Street W and continue to Business US 41 (8th Avenue W). Make a left-turn onto Business US 41 (8th Avenue W) and continue to 10th Street. Make a right-turn onto 10th Street to continue west.

Various locations along US 41, US 19 and SR 780: Construction project: Crews are installing highway lighting and constructing sidewalks at various locations along US 41, US 19 and SR 780 in Manatee and Sarasota Counties. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Expected completion is summer 2019. The contractor is Highway Safety Devices, Inc.

US 301 from SR 780 (Fruitville Road) to 10^th Street: Construction project: Crews are making median modifications, installing traffic separators, constructing turn-lanes, improving drainage, and constructing sidewalk. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Beginning the week of Monday, June 17, crews will be making drainage improvements on US 301between Ringling Boulevard and Main Street. During this time, the northbound right lane will be closed. The northbound and southbound turn lanes will become through lanes for traffic. Northbound and southbound left turns from US 301 to Ringling Boulevard and to Main Street are prohibited. Motorists should use caution and pay close attention to chnages in traffic patterns. US 41 from Salford Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Salford Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard to a six-lane highway; resurfacing the roadway; improving drainage; constructing sidewalk, and installing highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. when crews are resurfacing the roadway. Expect periodic driveway closures along the northbound lanes while crews are installing drainage systems. Russell Engineering, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is early summer 2019.

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota:  Construction project: Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.

• New traffic pattern was implemented on 14th Street going east and west. Pay close attention to barrels, pavement markings and traffic lights. Pedestrians need to cross at designated crosswalks and avoid work zones for safety reasons.
• Paving is scheduled along US41 on the west side and at 10th Street, and the intersection of 14th Street. Work will occur during the night throughout the week. Lane closures are expected during the operation, with trucks and rollers. Expect noise from backup alarms and vibrations from compaction.
• Installation of waterline at the SW corner of Imperial Drive continues. This activity is expected to last 1 week. There will be noise from boring equipment, excavators and pumps. Pumps are expected to run 24/7. Work currently is expected during daytime only.
• Installation of drainage structures and road base work at the SW corner of 10th Street and along 10th Street on the south side.
• A new traffic pattern on west side of 10th Street is implemented. Travel lanes have been slightly shifted north. There will be only 1 lane going east and 1 lane going west during the temporary phase.
• New boat ramp driveway is open. Use caution as the wider driveway is intended for both entering and exiting traffic
• Temporary single lane closures may occur between 9th Street and 15th Street from        9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. if nighttime activities are scheduled.
• Temporary disruption to access is expected while crews are setting up equipment trucks moving in and out of the work zones. Access to properties is always maintained.
• Grading of roadway base is expected at 10th Street. Expect noise from heavy machinery and dust with trucks moving in and out of traffic.
• Pedestrian crossings on 14th Street/Imperial Drive at US 41 have been reconfigured around the work zone. Pedestrians are advised to use the designated sidewalks and cross walks.
• Pedestrian crosswalks and stop bar on the south bound lanes at 14th Street are marked. For the safety of pedestrians, motorists are urged to stop at the designated stop bar.
• Work on the permanent driveway for Centennial Park boat ramp exit off US 41. Driveway to the north is accessible.
• Water main tie in procedures are scheduled along US 41. Expect construction vehicles throughout the day.
• Centennial Park Boat Ramp driveway on 10th Street will be closed. Motorists can access the boat ramp via the US 41 entrance. Northbound left turn lane from US 41 into the boat ramp is available.
• The traffic pattern will be limited to right turn in/out for 11th, 12th and 13th Street. Traveling southbound and northbound direction left turns are not permitted at 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th Streets. Motorists are advised to follow the posted signs.
• Temporary detour route in effect. Use Cocoanut Avenue as alternate route to access 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th Street. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour route and seek an alternate route while traveling in this area.

Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a 6-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED street lights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is spring 2020. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.

US 41 from Hospital Road to River Road: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing new turn-lanes, driveway connections, and working in the medians. Expect intermittent north and southbound daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday,     June 21. Use caution and expect possible delays.

US 41 from McIntosh Road to Beneva Road: Construction project: Crews are constructing sidewalk and bicycle lanes, improving drainage, reconstructing the US 41 southbound bridge over Catfish Creek south of Central Sarasota Parkway, installing highway lighting, upgrading signals, and installing new signing and pavement markings.

• Northbound nighttime/overnight lane closures may occur between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
• Southbound nighttime/overnight lane closures may occur between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 a.m.
• The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph within the construction zone.

US 41 from Tuscola Boulevard to Ortiz Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-use path; installing bus pads and shelters; improving drainage; constructing/replacing sidewalk; installing guardrail and highway lighting, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Daytime lane closures between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. are possible. Lane closures within 600 feet of signalized intersections are not permitted between 5:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Florida Safety Contractors, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is summer 2019. 

US 41 (Venice Bypass) from Center Road from to Gulf Coast Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard to a six-lane highway; replacing traffic signals, installing new pavement markings and signage; installing concrete curb, sidewalks; improving new drainage, and installing new highway lighting. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Bergeron Land Development, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2021.

• Beginning Tuesday, May 28 at 7 a.m., Seaboard Avenue will be closed to thru traffic while workers complete drainage improvements. Motorists should use Spur Street as a detour route. Seaboard Avenue is anticipated be closed for a total of 54 days.
• Expect northbound and southbound nighttime lane closures on US 41 between Via Veneto and Gulf Coast Boulevard from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Monday, June 17 through Friday, June 21.

SR 776 (Indiana Avenue) at CR 777 (Dearborn Street): Construction project: Crews are making pedestrian and ADA improvements, vehicle detection overhead traffic signal modifications, sidewalk enhancements and installing highway lighting. US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota:  Construction project: Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.

• New traffic pattern was implemented on 14th Street going east and west. Pay close attention to barrels, pavement markings and traffic lights. Pedestrians need to cross at designated crosswalks and avoid work zones for safety reasons.
• Installation of waterline under US 41 by boring under the road at the south east and south west corners. This activity is expected to last 1 week. There will be noise from boring equipment, excavators and pumps. Pumps are expected to run 24/7. Work currently is expected during daytime only.
• Installation of drainage structures and road base work at the SW corner of 10th Street.
• A new traffic pattern on west side of 10th Street is implemented. Travel lanes have been slightly shifted north. There will be only 1 lane going east and 1 lane going west during the temporary phase.
• New boat ramp driveway is open. Use caution as the wider driveway is intended for both entering and exiting traffic
• Temporary single lane closures may occur between 9th Street and 15th Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. if nighttime activities are scheduled.
• Temporary disruption to access is expected while crews are setting up equipment trucks moving in and out of the work zones. Access to properties is always maintained.
• Grading of roadway base is expected at 10th Street. Expect noise from heavy machinery and dust with trucks moving in and out of traffic.
• Permanent light poles are expected to be installed on the west side of US 41. Expect flat bed and bucket trucks moving in and out of the work zones.
• Pedestrian crossings on 14th Street/Imperial Drive at US 41 have been reconfigured around the work zone. Pedestrians are advised to use the designated sidewalks and cross walks.
• Pedestrian crosswalks and stop bar on the south bound lanes at 14th Street are marked. For the safety of pedestrians, motorists are urged to stop at the designated stop bar.
• Work on the permanent driveway for Centennial Park boat ramp exit off US 41. Driveway to the north is accessible.
• Water main tie in procedures are scheduled along US 41. Expect construction vehicles throughout the day.
• Centennial Park Boat Ramp driveway on 10th Street will be closed. Motorists can access the boat ramp via the US 41 entrance. Northbound left turn lane from US 41 into the boat ramp is available.
• The traffic pattern will be limited to right turn in/out for 11th, 12th and 13th Street. Traveling southbound and northbound direction left turns are not permitted at 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th Streets. Motorists are advised to follow the posted signs.
• Temporary detour route in effect. Use Cocoanut Avenue as alternate route to access 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th Street. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour route and seek an alternate route while traveling in this area.
• Activities are subject to change due to adverse weather conditions and other schedule unforeseen problems. Other lane closures not yet scheduled may occur which do not appear on this update.

Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a 6-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED street lights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is spring 2020. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.

US 41 from Hospital Road to River Road: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing new turn-lanes, driveway connections, and working in the medians. Expect intermittent north and southbound daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, June 14. Use caution and expect possible delays.

US 41 from McIntosh Road to Beneva Road: Construction project: Crews are constructing sidewalk and bicycle lanes, improving drainage, reconstructing the US 41 southbound bridge over Catfish Creek south of Central Sarasota Parkway, installing highway lighting, upgrading signals, and installing new signing and pavement markings.

• Northbound nighttime/overnight lane closures may occur between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
• Southbound nighttime/overnight lane closures may occur between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 a.m.
• The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph within the construction zone.

Motorists should use caution and obey the posted speed limit. Expected completion is fall 2019. The contractor is Morrison-Cobalt JV.

US 41 from Tuscola Boulevard to Ortiz Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-use path; installing bus pads and shelters; improving drainage; constructing/replacing sidewalk; installing guardrail and highway lighting, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Daytime lane closures between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. are possible. Lane closures within 600 feet of signalized intersections are not permitted between 5:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Florida Safety Contractors, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is summer 2019. 

US 41 (Venice Bypass) from Center Road from to Gulf Coast Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Center Road to Gulf Coast Boulevard to a six-lane highway; replacing traffic signals, installing new pavement markings and signage; installing concrete curb, sidewalks; improving new drainage, and installing new highway lighting. Seaboard Avenue is closed to thru traffic while workers complete drainage improvements. Motorists should use Spur Street as a detour route. Seaboard Avenue is anticipated be closed for a total of 54 days. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Bergeron Land Development, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2021.

SR 776 (Indiana Avenue) at CR 777 (Dearborn Street): Construction project: Crews are making pedestrian and ADA improvements, vehicle detection overhead traffic signal modifications, sidewalk enhancements and installing highway lighting. Expect northbound lane closures from 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. and southbound lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Expected completion is summer 2019. Contact Network LLC is the contractor.

SR 72 at various locations: Construction project: Crews are installing highway lighting and constructing sidewalk along SR 72 at Frontage Road; Gantt Road; Honore Avenue; McIntosh Road; Sawyer Road; Beneva Road; Lockwood Ridge Road; Swift Road, Gateway Avenue, and at the Sarasota Pavilion entrance. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Expected completion is late summer 2019.
