Public Hearing for State Road (SR) 64 and Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road
Safety Improvements – Median Modification Project in Manatee County

Bartow, FL - The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District One, is hosting a public hearing regarding plans to provide a long-term interim safety improvement at the intersection of SR 64 and Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road.

The hearing will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Bayside Community Church, 15800 SR 64, Bradenton, FL 34212.

There will be an open house at 5 p.m. during which staff will be available to discuss the project and answer questions, followed by a formal hearing presentation at 6 p.m., after which participants may provide their verbal comments to all present. People attending the hearing can review project displays and speak one-on-one with project team members about the proposed safety improvements.

The purpose of the public hearing is to share information about the safety improvements on State Road 64 and Greyhawk Boulevard/Pope Road. The proposed improvements consist of a bi-directional median opening which prevents left turns and through movements out of Greyhawk Boulevard and Pope Road. Left turns from SR 64 onto Greyhawk Boulevard and Pope Road are still permitted, and sight lines are improved due to the lack of vehicles stacking in the median. Traffic entering SR 64 from both of the side streets will be converted to ‘Right Turn Only’. These modifications reduce the number of conflict points at the intersection, which improves safety. The ultimate improvement proposed at this location is a modern roundabout, which is anticipated to begin construction in late 2023.

Draft design plans will be available for review at the public hearing, and are also available from March 27 through April 27, 2018 at the FDOT Manatee Operations Center, 14000 SR 64, Bradenton, FL 34212, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Public participation is solicited without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability or family status.  Persons wishing to express their concerns relative to FDOT compliance with Title VI may do so by contacting Jamie Schley, FDOT District One Title VI Coordinator by phone at 863-519-2573, or via email at This email address is being protected from spambots.
