Traffic Watch for Manatee and Sarasota Counties

Due to the Labor Day holiday weekend, some FDOT contractors may cease construction activities impacting traffic for the holiday weekend beginning Friday afternoon, August 31 through Monday, September 3rd.  Work may resume on Tuesday, September 4thAny work that is to take place during the holiday weekend must be done without any impacts to the traveling public.

Motorists are reminded to wear safety belts and drive with caution, courtesy, common sense, and patience as they travel through work zones.

MANATEE COUNTY

23rd Street W from 14th Avenue W to Business US 41 (Valencia Drive): Construction project: Crews are constructing sidewalk around Blackstone Park on 23rd Street W from 14th Avenue W to Business US 41/Valencia Drive. Expect daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. American Lighting & Signalization, LLC is the contractor. Expected completion is late summer/early fall 2018.

I-275 at the Sunshine Skyway Rest Areas in Manatee and Pinellas Counties: Construction project: Improvements include constructing new rest areas and new parking lots with LED lighting, seawall repairs and extending the seawall at the Manatee County rest area to accommodate a new picnic pavilion. The Pinellas County Skyway Rest Area is closed for renovations. During this time, motorists will be directed to the Manatee County Skyway Rest Area. The closure is expected to last until fall 2018. The fishing piers will remain open during the closure. Construction is on-going on the new rest area site and the seawall on the Manatee side, west of I-275. Expected completion of both rest areas is fall 2019. David Nelson Construction Company is the contractor.

I-275 Southbound Ramp to I-75 Northbound (Exit 228): Construction project: Crews are replacing the concrete bridge deck on the southbound I-275 ramp to northbound I-75. The I-275 southbound ramp to northbound I-75 is closed for approximately ten (10) months. Traffic is being detoured north on US 41/S Tamiami Trail to SR 674/E College Avenue in Hillsborough County. A temporary traffic signal has been installed on US 41 at the southbound I-275 exit. Periodic nighttime/overnight I-75 northbound/southbound and I-275 southbound lane closures beneath I-275 will occur during construction. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Expected completion is summer 2019. Cone & Graham, Inc. is the contractor.

I-75 at SR 64 (Manatee Avenue) Interchange (Exit 220): Construction project: Crews are currently widening northbound and southbound I-75 and performing ramp, grading, utility, and drainage work. In observance of the Labor Day holiday, no work will be performed on from Friday, August 31st through Labor Day, Monday, September 4th.

  • Motorists are advised that I-75 northbound lanes will shift onto new lanes. Lane closures will be necessary as crews shift lanes and install lane striping during the overnight hours between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Motorists are advised that one lane closure in each direction on SR 64 may occur during the overnight hours between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Motorists are advised that one lane closure in each direction on I-75 may occur during the overnight hours between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. throughout the duration of the project. 

This project reconstructs the interchange, widens interchange ramps and SR 64, and installs sidewalks and bicycle lanes on SR 64. Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Drivers should use caution while traveling in this area. Estimated completion is late 2019. The contractor is Prince Contracting LLC.

I-75 at the University Parkway Interchange (Exit 213): Construction project: Crews are installing landscaping and irrigation systems at the I-75 and University Parkway interchange. Lane closures on I-75, if needed, will occur between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Lane closures on University Parkway, if needed, will occur between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Estimated completion is spring 2019. The contractor is Frankie Valdez Company, Inc.

US 301 from CR 675 to Moccasin Wallow Road: Construction project: Crews are installing new landscaping, irrigation and welcome signs. Superior Landscaping & Lawn Services is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2018.

Business US 41 (9th Street W) at the Green Bridge; at 3rd Avenue W, and from 3rd Avenue W to SR 64 (Manatee Avenue): Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-use path; constructing sidewalk; improving drainage; constructing turn lanes, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures on Business US 41 (9th Street W) from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. Estimated completion is spring 2019. The contractor is Gosalia Concrete Constructors, Inc.

US 41 between 37th Avenue W and 36th Avenue W: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing a driveway. Expect intermittent northbound lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, September 7. Use caution and expect possible delays.

US 41 at the Hernando Desoto Bridge: Bridge maintenance project: Crews are working on the bridge. Expect nighttime/overnight north and southbound right lane closures from 9 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. each morning Tuesday, September 11 through Thursday, September 13. Use caution and expect possible delays.

SR 789/Gulf Drive from SR 64 (Manatee Avenue) to SR 684 (Cortez Road): Maintenance permit project: Manatee County is installing new force mains and water mains. For additional information about the project, please visit the project website at www.amipipereplacement.com.

SR 70 (15th Street E) at 9th Avenue E: Construction project: Crews are constructing a roundabout; installing highway lighting and landscaping; improving drainage; constructing sidewalk, and resurfacing the roadway. The intersection of SR 70 (15th Street E) and 9th Avenue E is closed to traffic for approximately six (6) months. Please use 13th Avenue E and 7th Avenue E as alternate routes during this time. A temporary traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of SR 70 (15th Street E) and 13th Avenue E while the detour is in effect. Watson Civil Construction, Inc., is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2019.

SR 64 from Martinique Drive to 107th Court W: Construction project: Crews are improving drainage, constructing sidewalk and bicycle lanes, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Work occurs off the roadway and does not require lane closures. Florida Safety Contractors, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2018.

SR 64 from 67th Street W to 63rd Street W: Construction project: Crews are making drainage improvements, constructing sidewalk, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. C-Squared Certified General Contractor, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2018.

SR 64 at the Anna Maria Island Drawbridge: Bridge maintenance project: Crews are working on the bridge. Expect nighttime/overnight east and westbound intermittent lane closures from 9 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. each morning Sunday, September 16 through Thursday, September 20. Use caution and expect possible delays.

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

Laurel Road at the Legacy Trail Crossing: Construction project: Crews are constructing a pedestrian bridge along the Legacy Trail over Laurel Road. Please be aware of construction vehicles entering and leaving the construction zone. Both northbound and southbound trail traffic are now being detoured to the west along the signed detour route. Both sidewalks on the north and south side of Laurel Road are now closed. Please follow detour signs provided. Intermittent single lane closures at the bridge can be expected from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays only. Denson Construction, Inc. is the contractor for the bridge. Expected completion is fall 2018.

US 41 from SR 789 to Ritz Carlton Drive and sidewalk located along the north side of SR 789 from Sunset Drive to US 41: Maintenance permit project: The sidewalk will remain closed until construction of the development located at the corner of US 41 and SR 789 is complete. Pedestrians should follow the established detour.

US 41 from Salford Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Salford Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard to a six-lane highway; resurfacing the roadway; improving drainage; constructing sidewalk, and installing highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. when crews are resurfacing the roadway. Expect periodic driveway closures along the northbound lanes while crews are installing drainage systems. Russell Engineering, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2019.

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota: Construction project: Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.

  • Temporary single lane closures may occur between 9th Street and 15th Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. if nighttime activities are scheduled.
  • Traffic has been reconfigured into a new pattern on 10th Street east bound and west bound. Please pay close attention to the pavement markings and signs.
  • 9th Street is closed for through traffic at US 41 for approximately two weeks while crews install a water line. Business and residents will be able to access 9th Street from the east side via Cocoanut Avenue. Pedestrian access and parking on 9th Street will be available except for parking spaces closest to 9th Street near US 41. Detour signs will be posted to guide traffic. Expect noise from construction equipment, diesel engines and pumps. Construction is only expected during day light hours, however the pumps are expected to run 24/7. 
  • The installation of the waterline at 9th Street may have a minimal impact on the Sarasota Municipal Auditorium parking lot. Construction vehicles and equipment may be moving around the lot, motorists are advised to use caution in the area.
  • Waterline installation on 14th Street is ongoing. Work involves installation of a waterline from the traffic signal on 14th Street to about 200’ to the east on the north side of the street. There will be impacts to the driveways and residents within the work zone and residents may not be able to access the driveways for a day. Individual home owners who are impacted will be contacted to coordinate the work. Expect heavy equipment noise from machinery and dust in the area. Work is expected only during day time hours.
  • Waterline installation is expected on US 41 north of 14th Street in about 3 weeks. Expect to hear construction noise associated with the machinery, jack hammers, construction equipment, back up alarms and engine noises.
  • Installation of waterline across US 41 at 10th Street is ongoing and expected to last until end of August. This waterline will be installed via directional bore. Expect noise from drilling rigs, heavy equipment, loaders, pumps, and vacuum trucks. All work is expected during the day time. The contractor’s work zone for this operation will be in the median of 10th Street east of US 41. Motorists are urged to use caution and be mindful of the workers and the heavy equipment moving in and out of this area.
  • West bound 10th Street will have restricted lanes, only 2 lanes will be available to make left turns, through traffic and right turns. Heavy equipment will be staged in the median, with large trucks moving in and out of the median. Motorists are urged to use caution in the area.
  • Installation of storm water pipes is expected in front of the 10th Street boat ramp. There may be intermittent impacts to the boat ramp driveways but access to the boat ramps will always be maintained. Expect noise from equipment, pumps and power tools. This operation is expected during the day, but the pumps will be running 24/7. 
  • Centennial Park Boat Ramp driveway on 10th Street will be closed. Motorists can access the boat ramp via the US 41 entrance. Northbound left turn lane from US 41 into the boat ramp is available.
  • Pedestrian paths have been reconfigured around the work zone, please use designated sidewalks and cross walks. No pedestrian access on the west side of US 41 beyond Centennial Park, pedestrians are advised to use the sidewalk on the east side of US 41. Impacts to pedestrian access south of the Centennial Park on the west side of US 41 is expected while the contractor is performing excavation in the area.
  • Box culvert construction is ongoing. This is an active construction zone and for safety purposes only authorized personnel are allowed inside the work zone.
  • The traffic pattern will be limited to right turn in/out for 11th, 12th and 13th Street. Traveling southbound and northbound direction left turns are not permitted at 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th Streets. Motorists are advised to follow the posted signs.
  • Temporary detour route in effect. Use Cocoanut Avenue as alternate route to access 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th Street. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour route and seek an alternate route while traveling in this area.
  • Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

 

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a 6-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED street lights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is spring 2020. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.

US 41 from Hospital Road to River Road: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing new turn-lanes, driveway connections, and working in the medians. Expect intermittent north and southbound daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, September 7. Use caution and expect possible delays.

US 41 from McIntosh Road to Beneva Road: Construction project: Crews are constructing sidewalk and bicycle lanes, improving drainage, reconstructing the US 41 southbound bridge over Catfish Creek south of Central Sarasota Parkway, installing highway lighting, upgrading signals, and installing new signing and pavement markings.

  • Northbound nighttime/overnight lane closures may occur between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Southbound nighttime/overnight lane closures may occur between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 a.m.
  • The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph within the construction zone.

Work has begun to shift traffic to one lane in each direction with southbound traffic shifting onto the northbound bridge during reconstruction of the US 41 southbound bridge over Catfish Creek. Daytime lane closures should be expected as crews implement the traffic shift.

Motorists should use caution and obey the posted speed limit. Expected completion is fall 2019. The contractor is Morrison-Cobalt JV.

SR 758 (Bee Ridge Road) from Bond Place to Cattleman Road: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, constructing sidewalk, improving drainage, and upgrading traffic signals and highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight single-lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. Ajax Paving Industries of Florida is the contractor. Expected completion is late fall 2018.

SR 72 at Gateway Road: Construction project: This project is to replacing existing crosswalks, crosswalk landings, pedestrian signals, and lighting. This week, crews will work on paving, lane striping, and punch list items.

  • Drivers should anticipate lane closures; however, lane closures will be prohibited during peak hours from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Drivers should use caution while traveling in the work zone. Estimated completion is summer 2018, weather permitting. Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC is the contractor.

SR 72 at Swift Road and Beneva Road: Construction project: This project includes replacing existing crosswalks, crosswalk landings, and pedestrian signals. This week, crews will be working on installing electric lines underneath the roadway.

  • Drivers should anticipate lane closures; however, lane closures will be prohibited during peak hours from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Drivers should use caution while traveling in the work zone. Estimated completion is summer 2018, weather permitting. Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC is the contractor.

I-75 at SR 64 (Manatee Avenue) Interchange (Exit 220): Construction project: Crews are currently widening northbound and southbound I-75 and performing ramp, grading, utility, and drainage work.

  • Motorists are advised that one lane closure in each direction on SR 64 may occur during the overnight hours between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Motorists are advised that one lane closure in each direction on I-75 may occur during the overnight hours between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. throughout the duration of the project.

This project reconstructs the interchange, widens interchange ramps and SR 64, and installs sidewalks and bicycle lanes on SR 64. Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Drivers should use caution while traveling in this area. Estimated completion is late 2019. The contractor is Prince Contracting LLC.

I-75 at the University Parkway Interchange (Exit 213): Construction project: Crews are installing landscaping and irrigation systems at the I-75 and University Parkway interchange. Lane closures on I-75, if needed, will occur between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Lane closures on University Parkway, if needed, will occur between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Estimated completion is spring 2019. The contractor is Frankie Valdez Company, Inc.

US 301 from CR 675 to Moccasin Wallow Road: Construction project: Crews are installing new landscaping, irrigation and welcome signs. Superior Landscaping & Lawn Services is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2018.

Business US 41 (9th Street W) at the Green Bridge; at 3rd Avenue W, and from 3rd Avenue W to SR 64 (Manatee Avenue): Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-use path; constructing sidewalk; improving drainage; constructing turn lanes, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures on Business US 41 (9th Street W) from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. Estimated completion is spring 2019. The contractor is Gosalia Concrete Constructors, Inc.

US 41 between 37th Avenue W and 36th Avenue W: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing a driveway. Expect intermittent northbound lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, August 24. Use caution and expect possible delays.

SR 789/Gulf Drive from SR 64 (Manatee Avenue) to SR 684 (Cortez Road): Maintenance permit project: Manatee County is installing new force mains and water mains. For additional information about the project, please visit the project website at www.amipipereplacement.com. 

SR 70 (15th Street E) at 9th Avenue E: Construction project: Crews are constructing a roundabout; installing highway lighting and landscaping; improving drainage; constructing sidewalk, and resurfacing the roadway. The intersection of SR 70 (15th Street E) and 9th Avenue E is closed to traffic for approximately six (6) months. Please use 13th Avenue E and 7th Avenue E as alternate routes during this time. A temporary traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of SR 70 (15th Street E) and 13th Avenue E while the detour is in effect. Watson Civil Construction, Inc., is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2019.

SR 64 from Martinique Drive to 107th Court W: Construction project: Crews are improving drainage, constructing sidewalk and bicycle lanes, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Work occurs off the roadway and does not require lane closures. Florida Safety Contractors, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2018.

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

Laurel Road at the Legacy Trail Crossing: Construction project: Crews are constructing a pedestrian bridge along the Legacy Trail over Laurel Road. Please be aware of construction vehicles entering and leaving the construction zone. Both northbound and southbound trail traffic are now being detoured to the west along the signed detour route. Both sidewalks on the north and south side of Laurel Road are now closed. Please follow detour signs provided. Intermittent single lane closures at the bridge can be expected from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays only. Denson Construction, Inc. is the contractor for the bridge. Expected completion is fall 2018.

US 41 from SR 789 to Ritz Carlton Drive and sidewalk located along the north side of SR 789 from Sunset Drive to US 41: Maintenance permit project: The sidewalk will remain closed until construction of the development located at the corner of US 41 and SR 789 is complete. Pedestrians should follow the established detour.

US 41 from Salford Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Salford Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard to a six-lane highway; resurfacing the roadway; improving drainage; constructing sidewalk, and installing highway lighting. Motorists should expect lane closures on Sumter Boulevard beginning Monday, August 20 through Friday, August 24. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. when crews are resurfacing the roadway. Expect periodic driveway closures along the northbound lanes while crews are installing drainage systems. Russell Engineering, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2019.

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota:  Construction project: Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.

  • Temporary single lane closures may occur between 9th Street and 15th Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. if nighttime activities are scheduled.
  • Traffic has been reconfigured into a new pattern on 10th Street east bound and west bound. Please pay close attention to the pavement markings and signs.
  • 9th Street is expected to be closed for through traffic at US 41 starting August 21 (Tuesday) for approximately 10 days to install a water line. Business and residents will be able to access 9th Street from the east side via Cocoanut Avenue. Pedestrian access and parking on 9th Street will be un interrupted. Detour signs will be posted to guide traffic. Expect noise from construction equipment, diesel engines and pumps. Construction is only expected during day light hours, however the pumps are expected to run 24/7.
  • The installation of the waterline at 9th Street may have a minimal impact on the Sarasota Municipal Auditorium parking lot. Construction vehicles and equipment may be moving around the lot, motorists are advised to use caution in the area.
  • Waterline installation on 14th Street is expected to start next week (August 21st). This work is expected to last for approximately one week. Work involves installation of a waterline from the traffic signal on 14th Street to about 200’ to the east on the north side of the street. There will be impacts to the driveways and residents within the work zone and residents may not be able to access the driveways for a day. Individual home owners who are impacted will be contacted to coordinate the work. Expect heavy equipment noise from machinery and dust in the area. Work is expected only during day time hours.
  • Waterline installation is expected on US 41 north of 14th Street in about 3 weeks. Expect to hear construction noise associated with the machinery, jack hammers, construction equipment, back up alarms and engine noises.
  • Installation of waterline across US 41 at 10th Street is ongoing and expected to last until end of August. This waterline will be installed via directional bore. Expect noise from drilling rigs, heavy equipment, loaders, pumps, and vacuum trucks. All work is expected during the day time. The contractor’s work zone for this operation will be in the median of 10th Street east of US 41. Motorists are urged to use caution and be mindful of the workers and the heavy equipment moving in and out of this area.
  • West bound 10th Street will have restricted lanes, only 2 lanes will be available to make left turns, through traffic and right turns. Heavy equipment will be staged in the median, with large trucks moving in and out of the median. Motorists are urged to use caution in the area.
  • Installation of storm water pipes is expected in front of the 10th Street boat ramp. There may be intermittent impacts to the boat ramp driveways but access to the boat ramps will always be maintained. Expect noise from equipment, pumps and power tools. This operation is expected during the day, but the pumps will be running 24/7.
  • Centennial Park Boat Ramp driveway on 10th Street will be closed. Motorists can access the boat ramp via the US 41 entrance. Northbound left turn lane from US 41 into the boat ramp is available.
  • Pedestrian paths have been reconfigured around the work zone, please use designated sidewalks and cross walks. No pedestrian access on the west side of US 41 beyond Centennial Park, pedestrians are advised to use the sidewalk on the east side of US 41. Impacts to pedestrian access south of the Centennial Park on the west side of US 41 is expected while the contractor is performing excavation in the area.
  • Box culvert construction has started. This is an active construction zone and for safety purposes only authorized personnel are allowed inside the work zone.
  • The traffic pattern will be limited to right turn in/out for 11th, 12th and 13th Street. Traveling southbound and northbound direction left turns are not permitted at 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th Streets. Motorists are advised to follow the posted signs.
  • Temporary detour route in effect. Use Cocoanut Avenue as alternate route to access 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th Street. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour route and seek an alternate route while traveling in this area.
  • Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a 6-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED street lights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is spring 2020. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.

US 41 from Hospital Road to River Road: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing new turn-lanes, driveway connections, and working in the medians. Expect intermittent north and southbound daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, August 24. Use caution and expect possible delays.

US 41 from McIntosh Road to Beneva Road: Construction project: Crews are constructing sidewalk and bicycle lanes, improving drainage, reconstructing the US 41 southbound bridge over Catfish Creek south of Central Sarasota Parkway, installing highway lighting, upgrading signals, and installing new signing and pavement markings.

  • Northbound nighttime/overnight lane closures will occur between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Southbound nighttime/overnight lane closures will occur between 6:30 p.m. and    9:30 a.m.
  • The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph within the construction zone.
  • Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction with southbound traffic shifting onto the northbound bridge during reconstruction of the US 41 southbound bridge over Catfish Creek. This work is scheduled to begin the week of Monday, August 20.

Motorists should use caution and obey the posted speed limit. Expected completion is fall 2019. The contractor is Morrison-Cobalt JV.

SR 758 (Bee Ridge Road) from Bond Place to Cattleman Road: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, constructing sidewalk, improving drainage, and upgrading traffic signals and highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight single-lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. Ajax Paving Industries of Florida is the contractor. Expected completion is late fall 2018.

SR 758 at the Siesta Key Drawbridge: Bridge maintenance project: Crews are working on the bridge. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 9 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. each morning Sunday, August 19 through Thursday, August 23. Use caution and expect possible delays.

SR 72 at Gateway Road: Construction project: This project is to replacing existing crosswalks, crosswalk landings, pedestrian signals, and lighting.  This week, crews will work on pedestrian signals, sod installation, and punch list items.

  • Drivers should anticipate lane closures; however, lane closures will be prohibited during peak hours from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Drivers should use caution while traveling in the work zone. Estimated completion is summer 2018, weather permitting. Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC is the contractor.

SR 72 at Swift Road and Beneva Road: Construction project: This project is to replacing existing crosswalks, crosswalk landings, and pedestrian signals.  This week, crews will be working on the maintenance of traffic, and installing electric lines underneath the roadway.

  • Drivers should anticipate lane closures; however, lane closures will be prohibited during peak hours from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The FGTS Plan establishes the vision for implementing a connected statewide system of greenways and trails for recreation, conservation, transportation choices, healthy lifestyles, a vibrant economy and a high quality of life. The original FGTS Plan was completed in 1998 and adopted by the Florida Legislature in 1999, laying the groundwork for many programs, projects and initiatives that exist today. The updated FGTS Plan and maps will guide implementation of the connected statewide trail system from 2018 through 2022.

MANATEE COUNTY

23rd Street W from 14th Avenue W to Business US 41 (Valencia Drive): Construction project: Crews are constructing sidewalk around Blackstone Park on 23rd Street W from 14th Avenue W to Business US 41/Valencia Drive. Expect daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. American Lighting & Signalization, LLC is the contractor. Expected completion is late summer/early fall 2018.

I-275 at the Sunshine Skyway Rest Areas in Manatee and Pinellas Counties: Construction project: Improvements include constructing new rest areas and new parking lots with LED lighting, seawall repairs and extending the seawall at the Manatee County rest area to accommodate a new picnic pavilion. The Pinellas County Skyway Rest Area is closed for renovations. During this time, motorists will be directed to the Manatee County Skyway Rest Area. The closure is expected to last until fall 2018. The fishing piers will remain open during the closure. Construction is on-going on the new rest area site and the seawall on the Manatee side, west of I-275.  Expected completion of both rest areas is fall 2019. David Nelson Construction Company is the contractor. 

I-275 Southbound Ramp to I-75 Northbound (Exit 228): Construction project: Crews are replacing the concrete bridge deck on the southbound I-275 ramp to northbound I-75.

The I-275 southbound ramp to northbound I-75 is closed for approximately ten (10) months. Traffic is being detoured north on US 41/S Tamiami Trail to SR 674/E College Avenue in Hillsborough County. A temporary traffic signal has been installed on US 41 at the southbound I-275 exit.

Periodic nighttime/overnight I-75 northbound/southbound and I-275 southbound lane closures beneath I-275 will occur during construction. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Expected completion is summer 2019. Cone & Graham, Inc. is the contractor.

  • On Wednesday, August 15th, motorists are advised that a pacing operation will occur during the overnight hours from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on I-75 northbound from just north of University Parkway through the construction zone to allow for the installation of overhead structures. In the event of a weather delay, the rain date will be Sunday, August 19th.
  • On Thursday, August 16th, motorists are advised that I-75 northbound Exit 220/SR 64 will be closed during the overnight hours from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. to allow for the installation of overhead structures. In the event of a weather delay, the rain date will be Sunday, August 19th.  Motorists wishing to use I-75 northbound Exit 220 are advised to use either Exit 217/SR 70 and use local roads to reach SR 64; or, use Exit 224/US 301 and re-enter onto the interstate and use I-75 southbound Exit 220.
  • Motorists are advised that one lane closure in each direction on SR 64 may occur during the overnight hours between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a 6-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED street lights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is spring 2020. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.

US 41 from Hospital Road to River Road: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing new turn-lanes, driveway connections, and working in the medians. Expect intermittent north and southbound daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, August 17. Use caution and expect possible delays.

US 41 from McIntosh Road to Beneva Road: Construction project: Crews are constructing sidewalk and bicycle lanes, improving drainage, reconstructing the US 41 southbound bridge over Catfish Creek south of Central Sarasota Parkway, installing highway lighting, upgrading signals, and installing new signing and pavement markings.

  • Northbound nighttime/overnight lane closures will occur between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Southbound nighttime/overnight lane closures will occur between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 a.m.
  • The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph within the construction zone.
  • Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction during reconstruction of the US 41 southbound bridge over Catfish Creek, tentatively scheduled to begin in mid-September.

Motorists should use caution and obey the posted speed limit. Expected completion is fall 2019. The contractor is Morrison-Cobalt JV.

SR 758 (Bee Ridge Road) from Bond Place to Cattleman Road: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, constructing sidewalk, improving drainage, and upgrading traffic signals and highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight single-lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. Ajax Paving Industries of Florida is the contractor. Expected completion is late fall 2018.

SR 758 at the Siesta Key Drawbridge: Bridge maintenance project: Crews are working on the bridge. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 9 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. each morning Sunday, August 19 through Thursday, August 23. Use caution and expect possible delays.

SR 72 at Gateway Road: Construction project: This project is to replacing existing crosswalks, crosswalk landings, pedestrian signals, and lighting.  This week, crews will work on concrete work at the pedestrian crossings, and start punch list items.

  • Drivers should anticipate lane closures; however, lane closures will be prohibited during peak hours from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Drivers should use caution while traveling in the work zone. Estimated completion is summer 2018, weather permitting. Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC is the contractor.

MANATEE COUNTY

23rd Street W from 14th Avenue W to Business US 41 (Valencia Drive): Construction project: Crews are constructing sidewalk around Blackstone Park on 23rd Street W from 14th Avenue W to Business US 41/Valencia Drive. Expect daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. American Lighting & Signalization, LLC is the contractor. Expected completion is late summer/early fall 2018.

I-275 at the Sunshine Skyway Rest Areas in Manatee and Pinellas Counties: Construction project: Improvements include constructing new rest areas and new parking lots with LED lighting, seawall repairs and extending the seawall at the Manatee County rest area to accommodate a new picnic pavilion. The Pinellas County Skyway Rest Area is closed for renovations. During this time, motorists will be directed to the Manatee County Skyway Rest Area. The closure is expected to last until fall 2018. The fishing piers will remain open during the closure. Construction is on-going on the new rest area site and the seawall on the Manatee side, west of I-275.  Expected completion of both rest areas is fall 2019. David Nelson Construction Company is the contractor. 

I-275 Southbound Ramp to I-75 Northbound (Exit 228): Construction project: Crews are replacing the concrete bridge deck on the southbound I-275 ramp to northbound I-75.

The I-275 southbound ramp to northbound I-75 is closed for approximately ten (10) months. Traffic is being detoured north on US 41/S Tamiami Trail to SR 674/E College Avenue in Hillsborough County. A temporary traffic signal has been installed on US 41 at the southbound I-275 exit. Periodic nighttime/overnight I-75 northbound/southbound and I-275 southbound lane closures beneath I-275 will occur during construction.

The I-75 northbound ramp to I-275 northbound will close overnight from 9 p.m. each night to 6 a.m. each morning Monday, August 6 through Thursday, August 9. Traffic will be detoured during this time to CR 683 (Moccasin Wallow Road) to US 41. From US 41, motorists will then be able to access I-275 northbound.  

Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Expected completion is summer 2019. Cone & Graham, Inc. is the contractor.

I-75 at SR 64 (Manatee Avenue) Interchange (Exit 220): Construction project: Crews are currently widening northbound and southbound I-75 and performing ramp, grading, utility, and drainage work.

  • Motorists are advised that one lane closure in each direction on SR 64 may occur during the overnight hours between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Motorists are advised that one lane closure in each direction on I-75 may occur during the overnight hours between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. throughout the duration of the project.

This project reconstructs the interchange, widens interchange ramps and SR 64, and installs sidewalks and bicycle lanes on SR 64. Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Drivers should use caution while traveling in this area. Estimated completion is late 2019. The contractor is Prince Contracting LLC.

I-75 at the University Parkway Interchange (Exit 213): Construction project: Crews are installing landscaping and irrigation systems at the I-75 and University Parkway interchange. Lane closures on I-75, if needed, will occur between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Lane closures on University Parkway, if needed, will occur between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Estimated completion is spring 2019. The contractor is Frankie Valdez Company, Inc.

Business US 41 (9th Street W) at the Green Bridge; at 3rd Avenue W, and from 3rd Avenue W to SR 64 (Manatee Avenue): Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-use path; constructing sidewalk; improving drainage; constructing turn lanes, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. Estimated completion is spring 2019. The contractor is Gosalia Concrete Constructors, Inc.

US 301 from CR 675 to Moccasin Wallow Road: Construction project: Crews are installing new landscaping, irrigation and welcome signs. Superior Landscaping & Lawn Services is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2018.

US 41 between 37th Avenue W and 36th Avenue W: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing a driveway. Expect intermittent northbound lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, August 10. Use caution and expect possible delays.

SR 789/Gulf Drive from SR 64 (Manatee Avenue) to SR 684 (Cortez Road): Maintenance permit project: Manatee County is installing new force mains and water mains. For additional information about the project, please visit the project website at www.amipipereplacement.com. 

SR 70 (15th Street E) at 9th Avenue E: Construction project: Crews are constructing a roundabout; installing highway lighting and landscaping; improving drainage; constructing sidewalk, and resurfacing the roadway. The intersection of SR 70 (15th Street E) and 9th Avenue E is closed to traffic for approximately six (6) months. Please use 13th Avenue E and 7th Avenue E as alternate routes during this time. A temporary traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of SR 70 (15th Street E) and 13th Avenue E while the detour is in effect. Watson Civil Construction, Inc., is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2019.

SR 64 from Martinique Drive to 107th Court W: Construction project: Crews are improving drainage, constructing sidewalk and bicycle lanes, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Work occurs off the roadway and does not require lane closures. Florida Safety Contractors, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2018.

SR 64 (Manatee Avenue West) at 5th Street West: Construction project: Crews are making improvements to the railroad crossing on SR 64 (Manatee Avenue West) at 5th Street West. Estimated completion is late summer/early fall 2018. The contractor is Cone & Graham, Inc.

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

Laurel Road at the Legacy Trail Crossing: Construction project: Crews are constructing a pedestrian bridge along the Legacy Trail over Laurel Road. Please be aware of construction vehicles entering and leaving the construction zone. Both northbound and southbound trail traffic are now being detoured to the west along the signed detour route. Both sidewalks on the north and south side of Laurel Road are now closed. Please follow detour signs provided. Intermittent single lane closures at the bridge can be expected from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays only. Denson Construction, Inc. is the contractor for the bridge. Expected completion is fall 2018.

US 41 from SR 789 to Ritz Carlton Drive and sidewalk located along the north side of SR 789 from Sunset Drive to US 41: Maintenance permit project: The sidewalk will remain closed until construction of the development located at the corner of US 41 and SR 789 is complete. Pedestrians should follow the established detour.

US 41 from Salford Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Salford Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard to a six-lane highway; resurfacing the roadway; improving drainage; constructing sidewalk, and installing highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. when crews are resurfacing the roadway. Expect periodic driveway closures along the northbound lanes while crews are installing drainage systems. Russell Engineering, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2019.

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota: Construction project: Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.

  • Temporary single lane closures may occur between 9th Street and 15th Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. if nighttime activities are scheduled.
  • 12th Street at US 41 is closed for through traffic. Residents and businesses on 12th Street will be able to access from Cocoanut Avenue. Detour signs are posted to direct traffic around closure.
  • Traffic has been reconfigured into a new pattern on 10th Street east bound and west bound. Please pay close attention to the pavement markings and signs.
  • 9th Street is expected to be closed for through traffic at US 41 mid-August for approximately 10 days to install a water line. Business and residents will be able to access 9th Street from the east side via Cocoanut Avenue. Pedestrian access and parking on 9th Street will be un interrupted. Detour signs will be posted to guide traffic. Expect noise from construction equipment, diesel engines and pumps. Construction is only expected during day light hours, however the pumps are expected to run 24/7.
  • The installation of the waterline at 9th Street may have a minimal impact on the Sarasota Municipal Auditorium parking lot. Construction vehicles and equipment may be moving around the lot, motorists are advised to use caution in the area.
  • Waterline installation is expected on US 41 north of 14th Street in about 3 weeks. This operation is expected to take place during daytime hours. Expect to hear construction noise associated with the machinery, jack hammers, construction equipment, back up alarms and engine noises.
  • Installation of waterline across US 41 at 10th Street is ongoing and expected to last until end of August. This waterline will be installed via directional bore. Expect noise from drilling rigs, heavy equipment, loaders, pumps, and vacuum trucks. All work is expected during the day time. The contractor’s work zone for this operation will be in the median of 10th Street east of US 41. Motorists are urged to use caution and be mindful of the workers and the heavy equipment moving in and out of this area.
  • West bound 10th Street will have restricted lanes, only 2 lanes will be available to make left turns, through traffic and right turns. Heavy equipment will be staged in the median, with large trucks moving in and out of the median. Motorists are urged to use caution in the area.
  • Installation of storm water pipes is expected south of Hog creek on the west side. There may be intermittent impacts to the boat ramp driveways but access to the boat ramps will always be maintained. Expect noise from equipment, pumps and power tools. This operation is expected during the day, but the pumps will be running 24/7.
  • Centennial Park Boat Ramp driveway on 10th Street will be closed. Motorists can access the boat ramp via the US 41 entrance. Northbound left turn lane from US 41 into the boat ramp is available.
  • Pedestrian paths have been reconfigured around the work zone, please use designated sidewalks and cross walks. No pedestrian access on the west side of US 41 beyond Centennial Park, pedestrians are advised to use the sidewalk on the east side of US 41. Impacts to pedestrian access south of the Centennial Park on the west side of US 41 is expected while the contractor is performing excavation in the area.
  • Storm water piping systems and light pole bases will be installed at the NE corner of 14th Street. Expect to hear diesel pumps running and heavy equipment and back up alarms. This work is expected during the day.
  • Box culvert construction has started. This is an active construction zone and for safety purposes only authorized personnel are allowed inside the work zone.
  • The traffic pattern will be limited to right turn in/out for 11th, 12th and 13th Street. Traveling southbound and northbound direction left turns are not permitted at 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th Streets. Motorists are advised to follow the posted signs.
  • Temporary detour route in effect. Use Cocoanut Avenue as alternate route to access 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th Street. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour route and seek an alternate route while traveling in this area.
  • Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

45-Day Public Review and Comment Period is Now Open

We need your voice

Regional transportation planning is guided by laws, rules, and policies set by federal and state governments.  Both federal and state laws require public participation in the planning process. 

Engaging citizens in the transportation planning process promotes successful problem solving, brings in diverse voices and new ideas; allows for greater consideration of local and regional concerns, needs and values; and gives the public a sense of ownership of the developed solutions.

The Public Participation Plan (PPP) provides the guidelines used by the MPO to conduct and document public participation activities.  The PPP is reviewed every three years, or as needed, for possible revisions.

There is a required 45-day review and comment period which began on July 30, 2018 and will end on September 13, 2018.  The complete document is available on the MPO website and is also available at county and city administration buildings and all public libraries. The complete draft of the 2017 Public Participation Plan is available to view and download here.  Any comments made regarding the PPP will be provided at the September 24, 2018 MPO Board meeting prior to adoption.

US 41 from SR 789 to Ritz Carlton Drive and sidewalk located along the north side of SR 789 from Sunset Drive to US 41: Maintenance permit project: The sidewalk will remain closed until construction of the development located at the corner of US 41 and SR 789 is complete. Pedestrians should follow the established detour.

US 41 from Salford Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Salford Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard to a six-lane highway; resurfacing the roadway; improving drainage; constructing sidewalk, and installing highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. when crews are resurfacing the roadway. Expect periodic driveway closures along the northbound lanes while crews are installing drainage systems. Russell Engineering, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2019.

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota:  Construction project: Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.

  • Temporary single lane closures may occur between 9th Street and 15th Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. if nighttime activities are scheduled.
  • 13th Street at US 41 is closed for through traffic, residents and businesses can still access 13th Street from Cocoanut Avenue. Please follow detour signs.
  • 12th Street closure at US 41 is delayed and is scheduled to begin the first week of August. Residents and businesses on 12th Street will be able to access from Cocoanut Avenue. Detour signs will be posted.
  • Traffic has been reconfigured into a new pattern on 10th Street east bound and west bound. Please pay close attention to the pavement markings and signs.
  • Waterline installation is expected on US 41 north of 14th Street. This operation is expected to take place during daytime hours. Expect to hear construction noise associated with the machinery, jack hammers, construction equipment, back up alarms and engine noises.
  • Installation of waterline across US 41 at 10th Street is expected to start this week and expected to last until mid-August. This waterline will be installed via directional bore. Expect noise from drilling rigs, heavy equipment, loaders, pumps, and vacuum trucks. All work is expected during the day time. The contractor’s work zone for this operation will be in the median of 10th Street east of US 41. Motorists are urged to use caution and be mindful of the workers and the heavy equipment moving in and out of this area.
  • West bound 10th Street will have restricted lanes, only 2 lanes will be available to make left turns, through traffic and right turns. Heavy equipment will be staged in the median, with large trucks moving in and out of the median. Motorists are urged to use caution in the area.
  • Installation of storm water pipes is expected south of Hog creek on the west side. There may be intermittent impacts to the boat ramp driveways but access to the boat ramps will always be maintained. Expect noise from equipment, pumps and power tools. This operation is expected during the day, but the pumps will be running 24/7.
  • Centennial Park Boat Ramp driveway on 10th Street will be closed. Motorists can access the boat ramp via the US 41 entrance. Northbound left turn lane from US 41 into the boat ramp is available.
  • Pedestrian paths have been reconfigured around the work zone, please use designated sidewalks and cross walks. No pedestrian access on the west side of US 41 beyond Centennial Park, pedestrians are advised to use the sidewalk on the east side of US 41. Impacts to pedestrian access south of the Centennial Park on the west side of US 41 is expected while the contractor is performing excavation in the area.
  • Storm water piping systems and light pole bases will be installed at the NE corner of 14th Street. Expect to hear diesel pumps running and heavy equipment and back up alarms. This work is expected during the day.
  • Box culvert construction has started. This is an active construction zone and for safety purposes only authorized personnel are allowed inside the work zone.
  • Grading in preparation for placement of asphalt and sidewalk at the northeast corner of 14th Street. Activity delayed due to rains. Expect equipment noise, backup alarms and dust during the operation.
  • The traffic pattern access will be limited to right turn in/out for 11th, 12th and 13th Street. Traveling southbound and northbound direction left turns are not permitted at 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th Streets. Motorists are advised to follow the posted signs.
  • Temporary detour route in effect. Use Cocoanut Avenue as alternate route to access 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th Street. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour route and seek an alternate route while traveling in this area.
  • Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a 6-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED street lights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is spring 2020. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.

US 41 from Hospital Road to River Road: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing new turn-lanes, driveway connections, and working in the medians. Expect intermittent north and southbound daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, August 3. Use caution and expect possible delays.

SR 758/Bee Ridge Road from Bond Place to Cattleman Road: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, constructing sidewalk, improving drainage, and upgrading traffic signals and highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight single-lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. Ajax Paving Industries of Florida is the contractor. Expected completion is late fall 2018.

SR 72 at Gateway Road: Construction project: This project is to replacing existing crosswalks, crosswalk landings, pedestrian signals, and lighting.  This week, crews will work on installing underground wiring, and performing concrete work at the pedestrian crossings.

  • Drivers should anticipate lane closures; however, lane closures will be prohibited during peak hours from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Drivers should use caution while traveling in the work zone. Estimated completion is summer 2018, weather permitting. Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC is the contractor.

SR 72 at the Stickney Point Drawbridge: Bridge maintenance project: Crews are working on the bridge. Expect nighttime/overnight east and westbound intermittent right lane closures from 9 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. each morning Sunday, July 29 through Thursday, August 2. Use caution and expect possible delays.

MANATEE COUNTY

23rd Street W from 14th Avenue W to Business US 41/Valencia Drive: Construction project: Crews are constructing sidewalk around Blackstone Park on 23rd Street W from 14th Avenue W to Business US 41/Valencia Drive. Expect daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. American Lighting & Signalization, LLC is the contractor. Expected completion is late summer/early fall 2018.

I-275 at the Sunshine Skyway Rest Areas in Manatee and Pinellas Counties: Construction project: Improvements include constructing new rest areas and new parking lots with LED lighting, seawall repairs and extending the seawall at the Manatee County rest area to accommodate a new picnic pavilion. The Pinellas County Skyway Rest Area is closed for renovations. During this time, motorists will be directed to the Manatee County Skyway Rest Area. The closure is expected to last until fall 2018. The fishing piers will remain open during the closure. Construction is on-going on the new rest area site and the seawall on the Manatee side, west of I-275.  Expected completion of both rest areas is fall 2019. David Nelson Construction Company is the contractor. 

I-275 Southbound Ramp to I-75 Northbound (Exit 228): Construction project: Crews are replacing the concrete bridge deck on the southbound I-275 ramp to northbound I-75. The ramp will close to traffic on Sunday, July 29 and remain closed for approximately ten (10) months. Traffic will be detoured north on US 41/S Tamiami Trail to SR 674/E College Avenue in Hillsborough County. A temporary traffic signal has been installed on US 41 at the southbound I-275 exit. Nighttime/overnight periodic I-75 north and southbound lane closures beneath I-275 and on I-275 southbound will occur during construction. Nighttime/overnight detours for northbound I-275 begin Sunday, July 22 and will continue for approximately two weeks. During this time, traffic will be detoured northbound on I-75 to CR 683/Moccasin Wallow Road. Traffic will continue on Moccasin Wallow Road to US 41 and continue to the I-275 northbound interchange. Expected completion is summer 2019. Cone & Graham, Inc. is the contractor.

I-75 at SR 64/Manatee Avenue Interchange (Exit 220): Construction project: Crews are currently widening northbound and southbound I-75 and performing ramp, grading, utility, and drainage work.

  • Motorists are advised that one lane closure in each direction on SR 64 may occur during the overnight hours between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Motorists are advised that one lane closure in each direction on I-75 may occur during the overnight hours between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. throughout the duration of the project.

This project reconstructs the interchange, widens interchange ramps and SR 64, and installs sidewalks and bicycle lanes on SR 64. Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Drivers should use caution while traveling in this area. Estimated completion is late 2019. The contractor is Prince Contracting LLC.

US 301 from CR 675 to Moccasin Wallow Road: Construction project: Crews are installing new landscaping, irrigation and welcome signs. Superior Landscaping & Lawn Services is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2018.

US 41 from Bayshore Gardens to 60th Avenue: Construction project: Crews are improving drainage, reconstructing pavement and driveways, constructing sidewalk, and installing new striping. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. Expect daytime/nighttime northbound outside lane closures north of Bayshore Gardens Parkway for the next few weeks. Rogar Management & Consulting of FL is the contractor. Expected completion is late summer/early fall 2018.

US 41 between 37th Avenue W and 36th Avenue W: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing a driveway. Expect intermittent northbound lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, July 27. Use caution and expect possible delays.

SR 789/Gulf Drive from SR 64/Manatee Avenue to SR 684/Cortez Road: Maintenance permit project: Manatee County is installing new force mains and water mains. For additional information about the project, please visit the project website at www.amipipereplacement.com. 

SR 70 (15th Street E) at 9th Avenue E: Construction project: Crews are constructing a roundabout; installing highway lighting and landscaping; improving drainage; constructing sidewalk, and resurfacing the roadway. Work begins Monday, July 23. The intersection of SR 70 (15th Street E) and 9th Avenue E will close to traffic on Wednesday, July 25 and remain closed for approximately six (6) months. Please use 13th Avenue E and 7th Avenue E as alternate routes during this time. A temporary traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of SR 70 (15th Street E) and 13th Avenue E while the detour is in effect. Watson Civil Construction, Inc., is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2019.

SR 64 from Martinique Drive to 107th Court W: Construction project: Crews are improving drainage, constructing sidewalk and bicycle lanes, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Work occurs off the roadway and does not require lane closures. Florida Safety Contractors, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2018.

SR 64 (Manatee Avenue West) at 5th Street West: Construction project: Crews are making improvements to the railroad crossing on SR 64 (Manatee Avenue West) at 5th Street West. Estimated completion is late summer/early fall 2018. The contractor is Cone & Graham, Inc.

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

Laurel Road at the Legacy Trail Crossing: Construction project: Crews are constructing a pedestrian bridge along the Legacy Trail over Laurel Road. Please be aware of construction vehicles entering and leaving the construction zone. Both northbound and southbound trail traffic are now being detoured to the west along the signed detour route. Both sidewalks on the north and south side of Laurel Road are now closed. Please follow detour signs provided. Intermittent single lane closures at the bridge can be expected from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays only. Denson Construction, Inc. is the contractor for the bridge. Expected completion is fall 2018.

Bridge Deck Replacement

The Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) contractor, Cone & Graham, Inc., will be replacing the concrete bridge deck on the southbound I-275 ramp to northbound I-75. This work requires traffic on southbound I-275 going north on I-75 be detoured at the US 41 exit. Traffic continuing past the US 41 exit will be required to exit I-275 at the southbound I-75 exit.

The closure begins at Sunday, July 29 and will remain in effect for approximately ten (10) months.

Please follow the established detour route and plan additional travel time. 

I-275 southbound traffic to northbound I-75: Go north on US 41/S Tamiami Trail to SR 674/E College Avenue. Follow SR 674/E College Avenue to northbound I-75.

US 41 between 37th Avenue W and 36th Avenue W: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing a driveway. Expect intermittent northbound lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, July 20. Use caution and expect possible delays.

SR 789/Gulf Drive from SR 64/Manatee Avenue to SR 684/Cortez Road: Maintenance permit project: Manatee County is installing new force mains and water mains. For additional information about the project, please visit the project website at www.amipipereplacement.com. 

SR 70 (15th Street E) at 9th Avenue E: Construction project: Crews are constructing a roundabout; installing highway lighting and landscaping; improving drainage; constructing sidewalk, and resurfacing the roadway. Work begins Monday, July 23. The intersection of SR 70 (15th Street E) and 9th Avenue E will close to traffic the week of Monday, July 23 and will remain closed for approximately six months. Please use 13th Avenue E and 7th Avenue E as alternate routes during this time. A temporary traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of SR 70 (15th Street E) and 13th Avenue E while the detour is in effect. Watson Civil Construction, Inc., is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2019.

SR 64 from Martinique Drive to 107th Court W: Construction project: Crews are improving drainage, constructing sidewalk and bicycle lanes, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Work occurs off the roadway and does not require lane closures. Florida Safety Contractors, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2018.

SR 64 (Manatee Avenue West) at 5th Street West: Construction project: Crews are making improvements to the railroad crossing on SR 64 (Manatee Avenue West) at 5th Street West. Estimated completion is late summer/early fall 2018. The contractor is Cone & Graham, Inc.

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

Laurel Road at the Legacy Trail Crossing: Construction project: Crews are constructing a pedestrian bridge along the Legacy Trail over Laurel Road. Please be aware of construction vehicles entering and leaving the construction zone. Both northbound and southbound trail traffic are now being detoured to the west along the signed detour route. Both sidewalks on the north and south side of Laurel Road are now closed. Please follow detour signs provided. Intermittent single lane closures at the bridge can be expected from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays only. Denson Construction, Inc. is the contractor for the bridge. Expected completion is fall 2018.

US 41 from SR 789 to Ritz Carlton Drive and sidewalk located along the north side of SR 789 from Sunset Drive to US 41: Maintenance permit project: The sidewalk will remain closed until construction of the development located at the corner of US 41 and SR 789 is complete. Pedestrians should follow the established detour.

US 41 from Browning Street to 11th Street: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway; installing new drainage; installing highway lighting, curb and gutter; constructing new sidewalk, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures on US 41; US 301; Fruitville Road, and Orange Avenue while crews are working. Preferred Materials, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is summer 2018. 

US 41 from Salford Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Salford Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard to a six-lane highway; resurfacing the roadway; improving drainage; constructing sidewalk, and installing highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. when crews are resurfacing the roadway. Expect periodic driveway closures along the northbound lanes while crews are installing drainage systems. Russell Engineering, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2019.

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota:  Construction project: Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.

  • Temporary single lane closures may occur between 9th Street and 15th Street from    9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. if nighttime activities are scheduled.
  • 13th Street at US 41 is closed for through traffic, residents and businesses can still access 13th Street from Cocoanut Avenue. Please follow detour signs.
  • 12th Street is expected to be closed to through traffic at US 41 mid next week. Residents and businesses on 12th Street will be able to access from Cocoanut Avenue. Detour signs will be posted.
  • Traffic has been reconfigured into a new pattern on 10th Street east bound and west bound. Please pay close attention to the pavement markings and signs.
  • Waterline installation is expected on US 41 north of 14th Street. This operation is expected to take place during daytime hours. Expect to hear construction noise associated with the machinery, jack hammers, construction equipment, back up alarms and engine noises.
  • Installation of waterline across US 41 at 10th Street is expected to start this week and expected to last until mid-August. This waterline will be installed via directional bore. Expect noise from drilling rigs, heavy equipment, loaders, pumps and vacuum trucks. All work is expected during the day time. The contractor’s work zone for this operation will be in the median of 10th Street east of US 41. Motorists are urged to use caution and be mindful of the workers and the heavy equipment moving in and out of this area.
  • Installation of storm water pipes is expected south of Hog creek on the west side. There may be intermittent impacts to the boat ramp driveways but access to the boat ramps will always be maintained. Expect noise from equipment, pumps and power tools. This operation is expected during the day, but the pumps will be running 24/7.
  • Centennial Park Boat Ramp driveway on 10th Street will be closed. Motorists can access the boat ramp via the US 41 entrance. Northbound left turn lane from US 41 into the boat ramp is available.
  • Pedestrian paths have been reconfigured around the work zone, please use designated sidewalks and cross walks. No pedestrian access on the west side of US 41 beyond Centennial Park, pedestrians are advised to use the sidewalk on the east side of       US 41. Impacts to pedestrian access south of the Centennial Park on the west side of US 41 is expected while the contractor is performing excavation in the area.
  • Storm water piping systems and light pole bases will be installed at the NE corner of 14th Street. Expect to hear diesel pumps running and heavy equipment and back up alarms. This work is expected during the day.
  • Box culvert construction has started. This is an active construction zone and for safety purposes only authorized personnel are allowed inside the work zone.
  • Grading in preparation for placement of asphalt and sidewalk at the northeast corner of 14th Street. Activity delayed due to rains. Expect equipment noise, backup alarms and dust during the operation.
  • The traffic pattern access will be limited to right turn in/out for 11th, 12th and 13th Street. Traveling southbound and northbound direction left turns are not permitted at 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th Streets. Motorists are advised to follow the posted signs.
  • Temporary detour route in effect. Use Cocoanut Avenue as alternate route to access 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th Street. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour route and seek an alternate route while traveling in this area.
  • Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a 6-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED street lights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is spring 2020. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.

US 41 from Hospital Road to River Road: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing new turn-lanes, driveway connections, and working in the medians. Expect intermittent north and southbound daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, July 27. Use caution and expect possible delays.

SR 758/Bee Ridge Road from Bond Place to Cattleman Road: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, constructing sidewalk, improving drainage, and upgrading traffic signals and highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight single-lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. Ajax Paving Industries of Florida is the contractor. Expected completion is late fall 2018.

SR 72 at Gateway Road: Construction project: This project is to replacing existing crosswalks, crosswalk landings, pedestrian signals, and lighting.  This week, crews will work on This week, crews will be working on the maintenance of traffic, and installing electric lines underneath the roadway.

  • Drivers should anticipate lane closures; however, lane closures will be prohibited during peak hours from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Drivers should use caution while traveling in the work zone. Estimated completion is summer 2018, weather permitting. Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC is the contractor.

SR 72 at the Stickney Point Drawbridge: Bridge maintenance project: Crews are working on the bridge. Expect nighttime/overnight east and westbound intermittent right lane closures from 9 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. each morning Monday, July 23 through Thursday, July 26 and again Sunday, July 29 through Thursday, August 2. Use caution and expect possible delays.

NOTICE is hereby given that the Tamiami Trail Scenic Highway Committee will hold a meeting on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.  Please note the meeting location will be at the Sarasota/Manatee MPO located at 7632 15th Street East, Sarasota, Florida 34243.

This notice is published pursuant to the requirements of the Federal Laws, Florida Statutes and MPO Policy. MANATEE COUNTY

23rd Street W from 14th Avenue W to Business US 41/Valencia Drive: Construction project: Crews are constructing sidewalk around Blackstone Park on 23rd Street W from 14th Avenue W to Business US 41/Valencia Drive. Expect daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. American Lighting & Signalization, LLC is the contractor. Expected completion is late summer/early fall 2018.

I-275 at the Sunshine Skyway Rest Areas in Manatee and Pinellas Counties: Construction project: Improvements include constructing new rest areas and new parking lots with LED lighting, seawall repairs and extending the seawall at the Manatee County rest area to accommodate a new picnic pavilion. The Pinellas County Skyway Rest Area is closed for renovations. During this time, motorists will be directed to the Manatee County Skyway Rest Area. The closure is expected to last until fall 2018. The fishing piers will remain open during the closure. Construction is on-going on the new rest area site and the seawall on the Manatee side, west of I-275.  Expected completion of both rest areas is fall 2019. David Nelson Construction Company is the contractor. 

I-275 Southbound Ramp to I-75 Northbound (Exit 228): Construction project: Crews are replacing the concrete bridge deck on the southbound I-275 ramp to northbound I-75. The ramp will be closed for approximately ten (10) months and traffic will be detoured north on US 41/S Tamiami Trail to SR 674/E College Avenue in Hillsborough County. The ramp closure is tentatively scheduled to begin late July/early August. A temporary traffic signal will be installed on US 41 at the southbound I-275 exit. Nighttime/overnight periodic I-75 northbound lane closures beneath I-275 will occur during construction. Expected completion is summer 2019. Cone & Graham, Inc., is the contractor.

I-75 at SR 64/Manatee Avenue Interchange (Exit 220): Construction project: Crews are currently widening northbound and southbound I-75 and performing ramp, grading, utility, and drainage work. 

  • In observance of Independence Day, no work will occur on Wednesday, July 4th.
  • On Sunday, July 1st, the new ramp to southbound I-75 will open during the overnight hours between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.; weather permitting.
  • On Sunday, July 1st, the westbound SR 64 ramp to southbound I-75 will have a temporary, intermittent detour during the overnight hours between 11 p.m. and          5 a.m.; weather permitting. Drivers will proceed to 66th Street Court/64th Street Court East and make a U-turn, then onto the southbound I-75 ramp.
  • Motorists are advised that one lane closure in each direction on I-75 between will occur in the overnight hours between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. throughout the duration of the project.

This project reconstructs the interchange, widens interchange ramps and SR 64, and installs sidewalks and bicycle lanes on SR 64. Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Drivers should use caution while traveling in this area. Estimated completion is late 2019. The contractor is Prince Contracting LLC.

US 301 from CR 675 to Moccasin Wallow Road: Construction project: Crews are installing new landscaping, irrigation and welcome signs. Superior Landscaping & Lawn Services is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2018.

US 41 from Bayshore Gardens to 60th Avenue: Construction project: Crews are improving drainage, reconstructing pavement and driveways, constructing sidewalk, and installing new striping. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. Expect daytime/nighttime northbound outside lane closures north of Bayshore Gardens Parkway for the next few weeks. Rogar Management & Consulting of FL is the contractor. Expected completion is early summer 2018.

  • Removal of old signal foundation at 14th Street continues into early next week. This operation is expected to take place during daytime hours. Expect to hear construction noise associated with the machinery, jack hammers, construction equipment, back up alarms and engine noises.
  • Centennial Park Boat Ramp driveway on 10th Street will be closed. Motorists can access the boat ramp via the US 41 entrance. Northbound left turn lane from US 41 into the boat ramp is available.

High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK) Activation

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) plans to activate the High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK) pedestrian activated signal on US 41/N Tamiami Trail at 1st Street in downtown Sarasota tomorrow morning Thursday, June 28, weather permitting.

The HAWK signal provides protected pedestrian crossings, stopping traffic as needed. Once activated, a solid red indication is provided to motorists directing them to stop. The solid red indication advances to a flashing red that allows motorists to proceed with caution once a pedestrian is clear.

State Road 64/Manatee Avenue West at Fifth Street West in Manatee County

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) plans to open State Road 64/Manatee Avenue West at Fifth Street West in Manatee County late afternoon Friday, June 22, weather permitting. FDOT’s contractor, Cone & Graham, Inc., will continue working over the next month to complete roadway improvements; however, a detour will not be required. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on State Road 64/Manatee Avenue West during this time. The project is expected to be complete later this summer.

FTA Announces $366.3 Million Funding Opportunity to Improve Transit Bus Infrastructure

FTA today announced the opportunity to apply for approximately $366.3 million in fiscal year 2018 competitive grant funding for transit bus projects nationwide. The Buses and Bus Facilities Infrastructure Investment Program is authorized by Congress to improve the condition of bus infrastructure nationwide by funding the replacement and rehabilitation of buses and related facilities. 

FTA will award the Bus and Bus Facilities Infrastructure Investment grants to designated recipients, states and local governmental entities that operate fixed route bus service as well as Indian tribes. Projects will be evaluated by criteria outlined in the Notice of Funding Opportunity.  The program allocates a minimum of 10 percent – $36.6 million – to rural bus needs. MANATEE COUNTY

23rd Street W from 14th Avenue W to Business US 41/Valencia Drive: Construction project: Crews are constructing sidewalk around Blackstone Park on 23rd Street W from 14th Avenue W to Business US 41/Valencia Drive. Expect daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. American Lighting & Signalization, LLC is the contractor. Expected completion is late summer/early fall 2018.

I-275 at the Sunshine Skyway Rest Areas in Manatee and Pinellas Counties: Construction project: Improvements include constructing new rest areas and new parking lots with LED lighting, seawall repairs and extending the seawall at the Manatee County rest area to accommodate a new picnic pavilion. The Pinellas County Skyway Rest Area is closed for renovations. During this time, motorists will be directed to the Manatee County Skyway Rest Area. The closure is expected to last until fall 2018. The fishing piers will remain open during the closure. Construction is on-going on the new rest area site and the seawall on the Manatee side, west of I-275.  Expected completion of both rest areas is fall 2019. David Nelson Construction Company is the contractor. 

I-75 at SR 64/Manatee Avenue Interchange (Exit 220): Construction project: Crews are currently widening northbound and southbound I-75 and performing ramp, grading, utility, and drainage work.

  • On Wednesday, June 27th, the new ramp to southbound I-75 will open during the overnight hours between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.; weather permitting.
  • On Wednesday, June 27th, the westbound SR 64 ramp to southbound I-75 will have a temporary, intermittent detour during the overnight hours between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.; weather permitting. Drivers will proceed to 66th Street Court/64th Street Court East and make a U-turn, then onto the southbound I-75 ramp.
  • Motorists are advised that one lane closure in each direction on I-75 between will occur in the overnight hours between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. throughout the duration of the project.

This project reconstructs the interchange, widens interchange ramps and SR 64, and installs sidewalks and bicycle lanes on SR 64. Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Drivers should use caution while traveling in this area. Estimated completion is late 2019. The contractor is Prince Contracting LLC.

US 301 from CR 675 to Moccasin Wallow Road: Construction project: Crews are installing new landscaping, irrigation and welcome signs. Superior Landscaping & Lawn Services is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2018.

US 41 from Bayshore Gardens to 60th Avenue: Construction project: Crews are improving drainage, reconstructing pavement and driveways, constructing sidewalk, and installing new striping. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. Expect daytime/nighttime northbound outside lane closures north of Bayshore Gardens Parkway for the next few weeks. Rogar Management & Consulting of FL is the contractor. Expected completion is early summer 2018.

US 41 between 37th Avenue W and 36th Avenue W: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing a driveway. Expect intermittent northbound lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, June 29. Use caution and expect possible delays.

SR 789/Gulf Drive from SR 64/Manatee Avenue to SR 684/Cortez Road: Maintenance permit project: Manatee County is installing new force mains and water mains. For additional information about the project, please visit the project website at www.amipipereplacement.com. 

SR 64 from Martinique Drive to 107th Court W: Construction project: Crews are improving drainage; constructing sidewalk and bicycle lanes, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Work occurs off the roadway and does not require lane closures. Florida Safety Contractors, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2018.

SR 64/Bradenton-Arcadia Road at Lorraine Road: Construction project: This project is to install a temporary traffic signal.  The project also includes pedestrian signals and crosswalk at Lorraine Road and 145th Street East.  This week, crews will work on punch list items and site clean up.

  • Drivers should anticipate lane closures; however, lane closures will be prohibited during peak hours from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Drivers should use caution while traveling in the work zone. Estimated completion is June 30, 2018, weather permitting. Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC is the contractor.

SR 64 (Manatee Avenue West) at 5th Street West: Construction project: Crews are making improvements to the railroad crossing on SR 64 (Manatee Avenue West) at 5th Street West. SR 64 (Manatee Avenue West) at 5th Street West will close to traffic at 11 p.m. Thursday, May 31 and remain closed for approximately four weeks. During this time, detours will be in place directing traffic around the closure (see below). Please use caution and plan additional travel time. Estimated completion is late summer/early fall 2018. The contractor is Cone & Graham, Inc.

  • US 41 southbound traffic to westbound SR 64: Follow the detour to 3rd Avenue West and make a left-turn onto 7th Street West. Turn right from 7th Street West to continue westbound on SR 64 (Manatee Avenue West).
  • US 41 northbound traffic to westbound SR 64: Follow the detour to 9th Avenue West and make a right-turn onto Business US 41 (9th Street). Turn left from Business US 41 (9th Street) to continue westbound on SR 64 (Manatee Avenue West).
  • SR 64 westbound traffic: Follow the detour to US 41 (S Tamiami Trail) and make a right-turn onto 9th Avenue West followed by a left-turn onto Business US 41 (9th Street). Turn left from Business US 41 (9th Street) to continue westbound on SR 64 (Manatee Avenue West).
  • Temporary two-way traffic (east/westbound) on SR 64 (Manatee Avenue West) between 5th Street West and 7th Street West: Two-way traffic (east and westbound) will temporarily be implemented on SR 64 (Manatee Avenue West) between 5th Street West and 7th Street West for business access. Please use caution as this is a change from the current one-way traffic pattern.

 

SARASOTA COUNTY

Laurel Road at the Legacy Trail Crossing: Construction project: Crews are constructing a pedestrian bridge along the Legacy Trail over Laurel Road. Please be aware of construction vehicles entering and leaving the construction zone. Both northbound and southbound trail traffic are now being detoured to the west along the signed detour route. Both sidewalks on the north and south side of Laurel Road are now closed. Please follow detour signs provided. Intermittent single lane closures at the bridge can be expected from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays only. The road closure and nighttime/overnight detour is tentatively planned for Thursday, June 28 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday, June 29. Denson Construction, Inc. is the contractor for the bridge. Expected completion is fall 2018.

US 41 from SR 789 to Ritz Carlton Drive and sidewalk located along the north side of SR 789 from Sunset Drive to US 41: Maintenance permit project: The sidewalk will remain closed until construction of the development located at the corner of US 41 and SR 789 is complete. Pedestrians should follow the established detour.

US 41 from Browning Street to 11th Street: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway; installing new drainage; installing highway lighting, curb and gutter; constructing new sidewalk, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures on US 41; US 301; Fruitville Road, and Orange Avenue while crews are working. Crews are constructing a new right turn-lane from northbound US 41 to Fruitville Road. Once constructed, the existing right turn-lane will be closed to traffic. Crews will then construct a pedestrian island and improve drainage. Nighttime/overnight northbound outside lane closures are also expected from 9 p.m. each night to 6 a.m. each morning while crews are working. Preferred Materials, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2018. 

US 41 from Salford Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Salford Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard to a six-lane highway; resurfacing the roadway; improving drainage; constructing sidewalk, and installing highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. when crews are resurfacing the roadway. Expect periodic driveway closures along the northbound lanes while crews are installing drainage systems. Russell Engineering, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2019.

US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota:  Construction project: Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.

  • Temporary single lane closures may occur between 9th Street and 15th Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. if nighttime activities are scheduled.
  • 13th Street at US 41 is closed for through traffic, residents and businesses can still access 13th Street from Cocoanut Avenue. Please follow detour signs. Once 13th Street is re-opened to traffic next week, 12th Street will be closed to through traffic at US 41 early next week. The work at 13th Street and 12th Street closure has been delayed due to unexpected issues.
  • There will be directional bore/drill for a new water service just south of 14th Street from the west side of US 41 to the east side. Expect excavation equipment and trucks on both sides of US 41 at this location.
  • Traffic has been reconfigured into a new pattern on 10th Street east bound and west bound. Please pay close attention to the pavement markings and signs. This area will be blocked off or partially closed to traffic for the upcoming Grand Prix starting mid next week.
  • FPL will be installing cables from south of 10th Street on the west side of US 41. Expect heavy equipment, trucks and other machinery at the Centennial Park entrance and the SW corner of 10th Street and US 41. There may be intermittent closures of sidewalks and the west bound right turn lane on 10th Street while trucks move in and out of the work zone.
  • Removal of old signal foundation at 14th Street scheduled to start end of this week into early next week. This operation is expected to take place during daytime hours. Expect to hear construction noise associated with the machinery, jack hammers, construction equipment, back up alarms and engine noises.
  • Centennial Park Boat Ramp driveway on 10th Street will be closed. Motorists can access the boat ramp via the US 41 entrance. Northbound left turn lane from US 41 into the boat ramp is available.
  • Pedestrian paths have been reconfigured around the work zone, please use designated sidewalks and cross walks. No pedestrian access on the west side of US 41 beyond Centennial Park, pedestrians are advised to use the sidewalk on the east side of US 41. Impacts to pedestrian access south of the Centennial Park on the west side of US 41 is expected while the contractor is performing excavation in the area.
  • Stormwater piping systems will continue to be installed from 10th Street to 11th Street west of US 41. Dewatering pumps will be running 24/7. Expect to hear diesel pumps running 24/7, workers driving to the pumps to refuel and maintain them.
  • Stormwater pipe installation and pedestrian bridge activities will take place at Hog Creek/11th Street. Expect to see several large pieces of equipment to move material and drive timber piles. Expect to hear construction noise associated with the machinery, such as back up alarms and engine noises.
  • Box culvert construction has started. This is an active construction zone and for safety purposes only authorized personnel are allowed inside the work zone. Expect equipment noise, backup alarms and dust during the operation.
  • Grading in preparation for placement of asphalt and sidewalk at the northeast corner of 14th Street. Activity delayed due to rains. Expect equipment noise, backup alarms and dust during the operation.
  • The traffic pattern access will be limited to right turn in/out for 11th, 12th and 13th Street. Traveling southbound and northbound direction left turns are not permitted at 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th Streets. Motorists are advised to follow the posted signs.
  • Temporary detour route in effect. Use Cocoanut Avenue as alternate route to access 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th Street. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour route and seek an alternate route while traveling in this area.
  • Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a 6-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED street lights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is spring 2020. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.

US 41 from Hospital Road to River Road: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing new turn-lanes, driveway connections, and working in the medians. Expect intermittent north and southbound daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, June 29. Use caution and expect possible delays.

SR 758/Bee Ridge Road from Bond Place to Cattleman Road: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway, constructing sidewalk, improving drainage, and upgrading traffic signals and highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight single-lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. Ajax Paving Industries of Florida is the contractor. Expected completion is late fall 2018.

FDOT Public Hearing for I-75 at Fruitville Road interchange in Sarasota County

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District One, is holding a public hearing for the I-75 at SR 780 (Fruitville Road) Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Reevaluation from Palmer Bridge to north of Fruitville Road in Sarasota County. All members of the public are invited to attend.

The hearing will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Selby Public Library, Jack J. Geldbardt Auditorium at 1331 1st Street, Sarasota, FL 34236.

There will be an open house at 5 p.m. during which staff will be available to discuss the project and answer questions, followed by a formal hearing presentation at 6 p.m., after which participants may provide their verbal comments to all present. People attending the hearing can review project displays and speak one-on-one with project team members about the proposed project improvements. Written statements or exhibits submitted at the hearing, emailed, or mailed and postmarked by Monday, July 2, 2018 will become part of the official hearing transcript. 

This design project includes reconstruction of the interchange at Fruitville Road in Sarasota County. The Department will rebuild the interchange from the existing partial cloverleaf design to a diverging diamond interchange (DDI). This project will also widen about two miles of I-75, from Palmer Boulevard to north of Fruitville Road, to a six-lane highway with three through lanes per direction. The project will also replace the existing bridges over Fruitville Road and widen 1.6 miles of Fruitville Road from Honore Avenue to east of Coburn Road.  Project staff will display plans and answer questions about the proposed interchange.  Project information and graphics showing the project’s location and proposed improvements will be available for public viewing from May 31, 2018 to June 21, 2018 at the Fruitville Public Library 100 Coburn Road Sarasota, FL 34240 (Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday – Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can find additional information on the project website: www. swflroads.com/i75/fruitvilleroad/index.html.
